Ikos Kerkyra is located on the hillside in Katavolos on the north east coast of Corfu. Katavolos is a charming village with some good local amenities. The villa is close to a secluded beach with others within walking distance. Nissaki, meaning ‘little island’, is nearby. It was once a tiny rocky island which joined the mainland. Its horseshoe-shaped main beach is made up of pretty white pebbles which shelve into the crystal clear blue water. It is a great place for snorkeling and if you are feeling adventurous, you can snorkel around to the neighbouring coves. It is a sleepy hamlet with some friendly tavernas and some gorgeous walking opportunities which spread up to the cypress and pine-sprinkled foothills of Mount Pantokrator. The 220km long Corfu Trail winds around the island and passes through the valley behind Nissaki. You will enjoy fantastic views if you take the steep coastal path towards the rocky coves of Katavolos. You can also hire a boat to explore the coastline. A popular visit is to Agni Bay. St Stephano is a pretty place with a delightful harbour and waterfront tavernas as well as a gorgeous beach.

Corfu Town or Kerkyra as it is otherwise known is just thirty or forty minutes away by car. It is one of the most beautiful, graceful, and elegant towns in Greece. The town’s stunning architecture has many influences including Sicilian, Venetian, French and English. Corfu Town is brimming with elegant mansions, magnificent palaces, beautiful squares, no fewer than thirty-nine churches and majestic fortresses. You should not miss The Liston and the Church of Saint Spiridon. The entire Old Town is declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, a tightly packed warren of winding lanes bursting with lively bars, unique shops, and fine restaurants. You will also see timeless alleys with the day’s washing stretching from balcony to balcony. The architecture is painted in sunny ochre and sienna shades. Just off Spianada Square is the Old Fortress on the site of an acropolis. From here, there are breath taking views. Corfu Town is the birthplace of the late Duke of Edinburgh. He was born at the fabulous Mon Repos Palace. Next to the palace gardens you will find the calm waters of the Mon Repos Beach and to the north, you will find Faliraki Beach. There are also some interesting museums including the Byzantine Museum of Corfu which is housed in a 15th century church. Others are the Museum of Ceramic Art, the D Solomos Museum, and the Asian Art Museum.

Kassiopi, roughly thirty minutes away, is a wonderful tourist resort with a fabulous range of tavernas serving mouth-watering traditional cuisine, bars, cafes and lively nightclubs. With the dramatic Mount Pantokrator overlooking the resort and with a stunning harbour, this once quiet fishing village is beautiful. Kassiopi boasts traditional narrow streets overlooked by the ruins of an ancient Byzantine castle together with breathtaking views out to sea towards the Albanian coast. Visitors enjoy delightful, tranquil walks around the headland.

Between the villa and Corfu Town, you will discover Gouvia and Kontokali. Gouvia is a chic resort with a history. In the 17th century, Gouvia was a Venetian naval base and the original grand arches of the shipyard are still intact. Now though, its smart marina offers sophisticated waterfront credentials with lively bars, trendy restaurants and boutique shops together with plenty of traditional Greek tavernas for meze and other delicious feasts. Gouvia enjoys several beaches, some of which are pebbly. The central beach offers some excellent watersports including jet skis and banana boats. From the beach you can see the pretty Ipanpanti Church jutting out in the village of Kommeno. It is a twelve minute walk away.

Gouvia sits in the same sheltered bay as the neighbouring village of Kontokali. Kontokali also boasts a delightful marina and a fabulous sand and pebble beach. You will taste the freshest of fish at Kontokali, a popular spot for fishermen for generations. Being so close to Gouvia, you enjoy a double helping of superb beaches, one special one set on the headland that keeps Kontokali Bay tucked away from the Ionian Sea.
