It’s a holiday match made in heaven when you vacation in Villa Matthias, located on the east coast of the island of Antiparos, a jewel in the heart of the Greek Aegean Sea. This luxury beachfront property has seven spacious ensuite bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to fourteen guests, ideal for a large family gathering, or friends get-together. Villa Matthias is an impressive detached three hundred and seventy square metre property, surrounded by ancient olive groves. The villa is built in two sections over two storeys, with a veranda and paved terrace, a natural garden populated with mature trees and indigenous shrubs, its own private infinity swimming pool, and stunning sea views.

Villa Matthias is the largest of a small luxury five-detached independent villa estate, located on the east coast beachfront on Antiparos. All the villas benefit from breathtaking panoramic sea views and have access to two private cove-like pebble and sandy beaches, which shoulder the properties. The villas are built in the traditional architectural Cycladic style, with whitewashed walls, and local natural stone, surrounded by lush gardens, populated with Mediterranean plants, flowers, aromatic herbs, and ancient olive groves. The properties are as lovely inside as out, each one is beautifully appointed and fully fitted to top-notch specifications. The décor is a gentle neutral palette of crisp whites, soft beiges and creams, and subtle greys, whilst the furnishings are rustically simple, using lots of local handcrafted natural wood. There is a shared tennis court and basketball court within the complex and in the evenings a barbeque area where you can wine and dine, and treat yourself to your own private chef upon request. All the villas come with a daily maid service, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi throughout, flat screen televisions in every guestroom and the living area, a DVD and CD player, as well as complimentary Apivita luxury toiletries in all the bathrooms.

Enter the villa at ground floor level where you will discover a light and airy holiday home of open plan living. The lounge has a big comfy three-seater and two-seater sofa, a large wooden coffee table, arranged in front of a rustic open fire, and a flat-screen television. The adjacent dining area has a long wooden table and chairs, ideal for some relaxed indoor entertaining, The fully equipped white and stainless steel kitchen has everything you will need to cater for a happy holiday, including a built-in oven and hob, a family-sized fridge freezer, and a useful table for preparation, and breakfast get-togethers. Take the stairs to the lower ground floor where there are two large, fully furnished, stone-floored, double bedrooms. Each with hand-crafted furniture, modern bathrooms with walk-in showers, and louvred French doors that open onto the sea-view terrace. This floor is also home to a twin room with two single beds, suitable for children, and a separate bathroom. There are further four very spacious sea-view double bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms, and access to the terraces.

The veranda-style top terrace has a comfy soft seating area, ideal for meeting for a morning coffee, or curling up in the shade with this year’s bestseller. There is a smart rattan dining table and chairs, strategically positioned for maximum sea views. Take the stone stairs to the lower tiled terrace, where there is a centrepiece step-entry infinity swimming pool, which is long enough for a few lengths before breakfast. The pool is surrounded by deep cushioned classic wooden sun loungers, with coconut matting shady parasols. As the sun sets, meet for cocktails on the terrace, then feast alfresco at the poolside dining table and watch in wonder as the stars come out to shine.

Villa Matthias is delightfully situated on a small estate of five luxury villas, in the beautiful scenic area of Magganies, on the east coast of the island of Antiparos, set in the Aegean Sea. The villa is just seven kilometres south of the island’s main port, a short ten-minute drive to your holiday destination. Catch a plane to the island of neighbouring Paros, then take a ferry from the port of Pounda to Antiparos. Or fly to Athens, and arrive by boat or even a helicopter, which is only a forty-five minute ride away.

The island of Antiparos lies in the heart of the Cyclades, populated with traditional whitewashed houses in a Mediterranean landscape of orthodox churches and ancient ruins, a backdrop of hills and mountains, and an unforgettable Aegean seascape. The island of Antiparos is eleven kilometres long, by four and a half kilometres wide, so wherever you want to get to is just a short drive away. The nearest beach is on your doorstep, with two cove-like beaches on either side of the villa complex. The fifty-seven kilometre-long coastline has a plethora of beautiful beaches, and you will be spoilt for choice during your stay. The most popular beaches are Agios Georgios, Soros, and Kampos, with their easy entry to shallow crystal clear waters, sun loungers and shady parasols, and local tavernas for a tasty lunch of homemade meze. The main town of Antiparos is a few kilometres north of the villa, with the original fortifications of a fifteenth-century Venetian castle and the adjacent cathedral as its main attraction.

The winding colourful streets of the Chora with blossoming bougainvillaea, are home to souvenir shops full of local and handcrafted goods you’ll want to take home with you. Shop for ceramics and pottery, lovely leather goods, handmade gold and silver jewellery, and homemade honey and olives. Dine in family-run restaurants on the island’s delicacies, such as rabbit, zucchini, fish, and octopus. Take a day trip from the harbour aboard an island hopping ferry, or a caique that can take you to hidden coves and secret bays for swimming, snorkelling, and sunbathing. Get active, hike across the island to discover the local flora and fauna, scuba dive to discover wrecks and reefs, and test your balancing skills in wind and kite surfing across the sea. Make sure you make a visit to the famous Neolithic Cave of Antiparos, with its display of stalagmite and stalactite formations, and the adjacent Greek Orthodox Church of Agios Ioannis Spiliotis, with an altar from the times of Alexander.

All aboard the local ferry to Despotiko, a small uninhabited island, with long sandy beaches, and ancient relics of a Doric temple dating from five hundred BC, with a set of sculptures, considered to be of great archaeological significance. Enjoy a day trip to the neighbouring island of Paros, take the ferry to Pounda to see the town of Parikia with its Byzantine church and Frankish castle, visit the Archeological Museum, bathe on its beaches, and then wander the colourful cobbled streets full of enticing shops and traditional tavernas, where you can sip on ouzo and watch the world go by. If you are lucky, you may be staying there during one of the summer festivals, where there are yachting races, sporting events, outdoor concerts, dancing, and of course lots of eating and drinking.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Your kids will love a holiday on the island of Antiparos, where there are lots to see and do to keep them occupied all day long. Villa Matthias has a fabulous easy Roman-style step-entry swimming pool, and as there are no set hours, they can play and splash all day. The villa has smart flat-screen televisions in all the bedrooms, and a DVD and CD player, where they can watch their favourite programmes in the cooler evenings. The villa complex has a shared tennis and basketball court, where they can practice on their forehand and shoot a few hoops. Best of all there is access to two private sandy and pebbly beaches, with easy entry to the calm waters of the azure Aegean Sea.

The coastline of Antiparos is populated with lots of family-friendly beaches, some with organised sun loungers and shady brollies, crystal clear waters for snorkelling and swimming, and local cafes and bars for refreshments throughout the day. Particularly recommended for children are Camping and Theologos beaches, noted for their shallow waters, lagoon-like sea, shady trees, and lack of wind. The shallowest beach is at Agios Spiridonas, also called Baby or Village beach. Other beaches that are also good for families are Psarailyki A and B, Panagia, and Glyfa, which are near local villages for their facilities and amenities. Children love a day in the old town or Chora, exploring the maze of streets, discovering the ancient fortifications of the Kastro or castle, and eating ice cream and traditional Greek desserts in the square. Don’t miss a day out to the volcanic Cave of Antiparos, take the four hundred and eleven steps down to the forty-five million-year-old cavern, with its colourful stalagmites and stalactites.

All aboard the ferry to take a trip across the water to the uninhabited island of Despotiko, with its beautiful sandy beaches, and ancient ruins for your young historians. For your more active kids, there are hiking trails across the island to discover the local flora and fauna, bike rides to traditional villages, kite and windsurfing on the Aegean Sea, and snorkelling and swimming closer to shore. No holiday to the island is complete without a family day at sea, join a group or charter your own yacht with a captain, where you can swim, snorkel, and sunbathe, dine aboard, then sail home at sunset. Nip to the neighbouring island of Paros, where there is some fun in the sun kid’s activities, including an extensive Aquapark with slides and pools for children of all ages, a hands-on petting farm, the beautiful butterfly valley, and an exhilarating rib ride.
