What Oliver loves…
- With 6000m2 of gardens and natural land, you are surrounded by tranquillity and privacy
- Built on the side of a towering mass of a beautiful forest-coated hill, Maison Lierre enjoys the finest aspect of the Drôme countryside, a region known for its flourishing landscape of olive groves and vineyards
- Despite the rural location, there is a small shop and restaurant within a five-minute drive and the charming medieval village of Taulignan just 6km away
- Ensure you sample one of the fine Côtes du Rhône wine during your stay with many vineyards and wineries within a short drive
A charming five-bedroom villa with wonderful mountain views, the beautiful Maison Lierre is perfect for those looking for a tranquil environment.
Built in 1824, there is a sense of traditional charm to the villa. Deep green ivy winds its way across the soft shades of the stone walls, rising towards the vibrant terracotta tiles of the roof. The exterior blends naturally with the forests which surround it, assuming its perfect position in the rural landscape.
Refurbished as recently as 2017, this villa is an embodiment of the fusion of old and new, traditional and modern, that is so appealing in the region. The common spaces possess all the charm of a 19th century home, with exposed beams in the ceiling and a vast open fireplace in the kitchen, yet have the modern comforts of a contemporary villa. The kitchen is large enough for several cooks to get involved in meal preparation, with a lovely large table at the centre. With two living areas to choose from, as well as a vast private garden, guests always have a choice of activities.
With an array of tribal prints, vibrant colours and beautiful artwork, many of the rooms have a more modern feel whilst others are more traditional, with exposed stone walls and simpler colour palettes.
Beyond the warm interiors you will find a vast and serene garden, far away from any neighbours and offering endless opportunities to play, relax and enjoy the fine weather of the region. There’s not only an amazing swimming pool, but even a pool house equipped with a barbecue, so you needn’t even go inside to cook!
With spectacular views of the Lance mountains and Mount Rachas, you will find yourself very near to Grignan and its fabulous Renaissance castle, as well as the unmissable Grotte de Rochecourbière and of course the Truffle Museum to taste one of the many exquisite local delicacies.
Within three kilometres you have a grocery shop and restaurant, with further facilities within a fifteen-minute drive. At the same time, you have nearly a kilometre between you and the nearest property, a huge plot of land to enjoy, and even a little river with a beach running along one end of the grounds. Truly the best of both worlds!

With wonderful views of the stunning Parc Naturel Régional des Baronnies Provençales, Maison Lierre is perfectly located to enjoy the natural scenery and activities like hiking, mountaineering, rock climbing and cycling, for which Drôme is famous.
Within three kilometres you have a little grocery store and restaurant in Roche-Saint-Secret whilst Taulignan (6km) is a delightful medieval village with a bakery and a restaurant plus an excellent local wine you must try! Indeed this area is filled with wonderful vineyards, many of which are open for tours and tastings where you can sample some incredible Côtes du Rhône wine.
The region of Drôme itself is a delightful area, attracting far fewer tourists compared to neighbouring Provence but is arguably even more beautiful. The Rhone Alpes are a maze of orchards, olive groves and black truffles; you can even visit the Truffle Museum in Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux (30km). Historical villages surrounded by stunning natural scenery include Grignan (13km) and Valréas (12km). The abbey of Notre-Dame d'Aiguebelle (22km) is also a magical and peaceful place to visit as well as the fascinating Grotte de Rochecourbière (14km).
Our most active guests will adore the range of activities on offer nearby. From canoeing in the Gorges de l'Ardèche to mountain biking, climbing or hiking in the Saou forest, there are activities for even the most adventurous.
The villa is also around 45 minutes from the picturesque town of Montélimar (33km) which hosts the beautiful Jardin Public, a charming green space among the busy streets of the town that even has a small animal park! Wander the tree-lined boulevards, visit the Museum of Miniatures, with its fascinating collection of doll’s houses and pop in to the Palais des Bonbons et du Nougat too, a fabulous trip back to childhood, even for the big kids!
To the south is the impressive city of Avignon (77km), with a UNESCO World Heritage Site historic centre, each year it hosts the delightful Festival d'Avignon which attracts visitors from all over the world! Southwest of Avingnon is Nîmes, sometimes called the ‘Rome of France’, located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Cévennes mountains.
To the north is the wonderful Valence (88km), a listed city of famous for its art and history, with a charming historic centre and even further north is Lyon (188km), something of a cultural and culinary hub and one of three main cities of the region, alongside Grenoble and St. Etienne, with a fascinating Renaissance and medieval centre.
International airports can be found across the region, including in Nîmes, Avignon and Marseille, and of course the increasingly popular Eurostar now runs services to Lyon, Avignon and Marseille!
