This is quintessential Provence; a beautifully renovated farmhouse set in wonderful grounds featuring olive and cypress trees, only 2km from one of the region’s prettiest towns, Saint-Rémy.

Inside this superb home, there’s almost a bohemian vibe in the spacious living area with bold artwork on display, an eclectic mix of fine furnishings old and new, an elegant piano and impressive central fireplace. The superb kitchen opens up to a dining table by a traditional stone fireplace, the perfect spot for enjoying Provençal feasts and local wine with family and friends.

The farmhouse features six pretty air-conditioned bedrooms and four bathrooms, including a particularly wonderful raised bath with wooden steps. Kids can kick back in the characterful TV lounge or spend playful summers in the wondrous grounds, swinging under the plane tree, hosting tea-parties in front of the charming gypsy caravan, playing a game of pétanque or kicking a ball around the vast lawns dotted with olive trees.

Spend long days by the heated swimming pool, beautifully set in the verdant gardens with summer flowers and century-old trees. Relax in the shade of the pool house or soak up the sun on a lounger, chill out in the al-fresco lounge or spend time in the summer kitchen with its barbecue and covered dining terrace. The one-hectare grounds are simply glorious and everything you could wish for in a fine family home.

All of this and you are only 2km from the delightful town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence with its charming lanes filled with artist shops, amazing restaurants and atmospheric cafes, not to mention the wonderful Wednesday morning market selling all sorts of local produce. Explore the surrounding landscapes of olive groves, vineyards and idyllic villages such as Eygalières, Maussane and Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. This region, the Parc Naturel Régional des Alpilles, also offers wonderful walking, cycling, horse-riding, golf and so much more.

Explore further afield and visit the historic city of Avignon, Van Gogh’s beloved Arles and the enchanting Luberon with its magical hilltop villages and incredible vistas. With such stunning scenery all around you, this is Provence at its very best.

Petite Roulotte enjoys an enviable location just over 2km north of Saint-Rémy centre in the stunning Parc Naturel Régional des Alpilles, an archetypal part of Provence filled with spectacular landscapes of rolling vineyards and olive groves.

It’s just a five-minute drive to reach the heart of Saint-Rémy or you could hire bikes, even electric ones, from the town itself. It’s a charming town, so typical of this part of Provence, with real character and some wonderful cafes and restaurants. Wander around the cobbled lanes of the old town admiring artists at work, then head to a café under the plane trees on an atmospheric boulevard. The town comes alive on a Wednesday morning with its market showcasing wonderful local products and you may be lucky enough to be in Saint-Rémy during festivities or celebrations.

Just south of the town you’ll find the fascinating archaeological site of Glanum as well as Saint-Paul de Mausole, the monastery where Van Gogh created some of his most well-known paintings. There are of course references to Van Gogh throughout Saint-Rémy and you can visit the room he stayed in during his time here.

Other wonderful villages and towns across Les Alpilles Natural Park include the enchanting Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, idyllic Eygalières, now favoured by discreet A-list celebrities and the beautiful Maussane-les-Alpilles, home to lovely restaurants and some of France’s finest olive oil. This region offers great walking opportunities, cycling routes, rock-climbing, horse-riding and golf.

Heading north, spend the day in the glorious city of Avignon with its  three UNESCO World Heritage sites; the Palais des Papes, the beautiful square in front of the palace and the famous Pont d’Avignon. Enjoy the city’s great food scene across the restaurants and many markets, wander around its historic streets and admire its impressive architecture. Look out for the vibrant Festival d’Avignon which takes place in the summer.

Antique lovers must spend a Sunday morning at the amazing brocante (flea/antique market) in L'Isle Sur La Sorgue or head to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse to hire canoes along the beautiful Sorgue river.

The Luberon region is also filled with incredible scenery with hilltop top towns perched in glorious surroundings. Look out for Gordes, another one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, Ménerbes and Bonnieux. If staying in early July, check when the ‘Féria du Melon’ may be taking place in Cavaillon. This weekend event includes melon tasting and all sorts of great melon-related festivities.

Follow the Van Gogh trail around Saint-Rémy and you’ll end at the amazing monastery where the artist once lived, Saint-Paul de Mausole. Budding archaeologists can also visit the impressive site of Glanum, just south of Saint-Rémy.

Families will also enjoy the multi-media light shows at Carrières de Lumières, near Les Baux-de-Provence, where images are projected onto rocks all around you in a quarry. Avignon also hosts a multi-media show at the famous Palais des Papes on some summer evenings.

If visiting Avignon with little ones, pick up the road-train that takes you to the main monuments or perhaps take a cruise along the Rhône river.

Other activities across the region include some wonderful family walking trails, cycling, pony and horse-riding as well as rock-climbing in Les Alpilles and Luberon region.

There’s also Le Jarditrain, a delightful model railway village, around an hour away near Carpentras as well as Zoo La Barben, under an hour south, where you can explore across the 9km of footpaths looking out for animals in this large park.
