You will love the comfortable and homely ambience of this elegant house with its fabulous enclosed gardens and only five kilometres from Arles, an historic city on the banks of the Rhône in southern Provence.
Mas De La Sieste has so many features to please the eye including the characterful old fireplaces in the kitchen area and living room. The TV lounge adds to the spacious interiors whilst the impressive kitchen-diner has doors opening straight out on to the glorious garden. Upstairs you will find four doubles with air-conditioning including one bedroom with a 200cm bed and its own en suite bathroom.
From the manicured lawn admire the pretty balconies, French windows and arched doors which adorn the back of the house then look towards the sparkling pool and beyond to the olive and fruit trees interspersed with fragrant lavender. Large white tubs of oleander are artistically placed near the terraces, where you will also find the covered alfresco dining and lounging areas, pool house and fitness room.
Despite so many attractions chez vous, the superb location near Arles encourages early exploration of a city so well known for its fine architecture and fascinating Roman remains. Its warmth and wonderful light inspired the artist Vincent Van Gogh, who completed many paintings here and loved the city. There are many fine restaurants to choose from but it’s a great experience to dine beneath the plane trees in Place du Forum where Van Gogh once sat with his easel to paint “Café Terrace at Night”.
Arles is often described as a stepping stone to the seemingly mythical Carmargue which covers 900 square kilometres of land and offers opportunities for horse-riding, trekking, quad biking and jeep tours. Here you will find those famous wild white horses, lagoons, beaches, pink flamingos, and red salt-pans reaching out towards the Mediterranean.
Les Alpilles Natural Park is another great place for families with rock climbing, horse riding, hiking and mountain biking along its many trails. Don’t forget to visit one of the interesting villages such as Mausanne or exquisite Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s acclaimed ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, a grey stoned medieval village perched on a rocky outcrop.

Location
About the surrounding area of Mas De La SiesteMas De La Sieste is set in a semi-residential area, just 5km from Arles, a beautiful and historic city on the banks of the Rhône in Provence. The location is perfect for visiting both Les Alpilles Natural Park and beyond and heading south-west towards the Camargue.
Once the capital of provincial Rome, Arles is well known for its incredible architecture and fascinating Roman remains, such as the Amphitheatre which now hosts plays and concerts. As you walk round the city you may well glimpse sun drenched colourful houses reminding you of one of the canvases of Vincent Van Gogh who so loved the city and painted many works during his short stay here.
The Saturday morning market is one of the best in Provence and gastronomers will enjoy the many dining opportunities ranging from pavement cafes to grander establishments. Take a meal beneath the plane trees in Place du Forum where Van Gogh once sat with his easel to paint “Café Terrace at Night”. There are also museums and galleries to explore, a Van Gogh walking tour to follow before enjoying a relaxing cruise on the Rhône.
Arles is often described as a stepping stone to the Carmargue, a mythical landscape of wild horses, lagoons, rice paddies, pink flamingos, beaches and red salt-pans reaching out towards the Mediterranean. The park covers 900 square kilometres of land and offers many chances for adventurous pursuits such as horse-riding, trekking, quad biking and jeep tours.
More adventure and remarkable scenery can be found in nearby Les Alpilles Natural Park. It hosts a wonderful variety of wildlife as well as offering opportunities for rock climbing, horse riding, hiking and mountain biking along its many trails.
Drive along the pretty route from Arles towards Mausanne-les-Alpilles which passes through a landscape of ancient olive trees and verdant fields. Stop for a coffee at Fontvieille and visit Daudet’s windmill on the hill or drive straight to the charming village of Mausanne to sample some of its amazing olive oil. From here it’s only a short trip North to exquisite Les Baux-de-Provence, classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ with its pretty squares, narrow streets and little shops.
Other renowned towns and cities of the region such as Nimes, Avignon and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence are also accessible for a day trip but you may well by now just prefer to stay local and enjoy your holiday home near the wonderful city of Arles.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesProvence is a wonderfully welcoming place for kids who will love exploring local markets, visiting some of the exquisite nearby villages or simply taking a cruise on the Rhône.
In Arles, just 5km away, follow the Van Gogh trail which passes the famous sites – have fun looking at the painting on the signboard and then identifying the building or street where the artist painted. Two great playgrounds on the Van Gogh trail give a break from painting spotting.
Any child keen on history will just love Arles. Explore some of the Roman ruins anyway, pretend to be Romans, stage a sword fight in the Arena and look out for fossils in the limestone. During the second half of August a huge celebration of the city’s Roman history takes place, called Arelate. Chariots and gladiators process through the streets, there’s a Roman style circus and loads of fun filled educational workshops for kids.
There is such a range of outdoor activities for older kids - horse-riding, trekking, quad biking and jeep tours in the Carmargue and mountain biking, hiking and rock climbing in Les Alpilles with pony clubs for the younger ones.
