- Despite being a modern residence, the owners have styled it with historic charm and elegance
- The heated swimming pool is surrounded by sunny terraces and olive trees
- For larger groups, you can hire both Les Cactus and its neighbour, Le Mas Caroline, as they sleep up to 18 guests over the two beautiful villas
- Explore the local market in charming Châteaurenard on a Sunday morning
- Both Avignon and idyllic St-Remy-de-Provence are within a short drive from your villa
Just a fifteen-minute drive from Avignon, near the charming village of Châteaurenard, Les Cactus is a beautifully appointed home perfect for a holiday with family or friends wanting to get to know this wonderful part of Provence.
Despite only being constructed recently, the owners have styled the interiors with historic charm and character using wood-beamed ceilings, rustic walls and elegant furnishings complementing contemporary features such as air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and DVD players. The open-plan living and dining space flows through the home to create a convivial setting for dining and relaxing with loved ones. The five bedrooms, four of which have their own bath or shower room, are decorated with style and comfort, some featuring TVs and some with their own comfy chairs for an early morning coffee before the world awakes.
Outside the glorious enclosed gardens greet you with the sight of olive trees and the dazzling heated swimming pool, surrounded by luscious sun-beds and outdoor sofas plus a beautiful terrace for al-fresco dining. Beyond your own private garden you’ll find 2.5 hectares of countryside which belongs to the estate and can be enjoyed by you and the neighbouring villas, including the wonderful Le Mas Caroline just next door.
It’s only a short drive to Châteaurenard, a quiet but characterful village full of charm which enjoys many summer festivals. On Sunday mornings head down to the local market to pick up some liqueur de Frigolet (herbal liquor), a local speciality. Just a little further you will find the beautiful Avignon (12km) where you can enjoy some fine dining after visiting the city’s UNESCO World heritage sites or head into the archetypal Provençal villages of Les Apilles National Park such as idyllic St-Rémy, where Van Gogh famously painted ‘Starry Night’ amongst others.
The captivating region is full of vineyards, olive groves and summer landscapes of sunflowers. Ride horses through fields of lavender, play golf with in Provençal countryside or follow one of the many lovely trails for hikers and cyclists. Older children will love kayaking along the Rhône or Sorgue and there are plenty of other family friendly activities from model railways and open castles to trekking across the tree tops and visiting a zoo.
Return to your residence where you can relax in your refined surroundings in this graceful and welcoming home.

The villa is part of a gated estate in 2.5 hectares of parkland, shared with other houses and villas, including Le Mas Caroline, although Les Cactus has its own spacious and enclosed gardens.
It's located just outside Châteaurenard (3km), a rural village just south-east of Avignon (12km). Visit the local market on a Sunday morning where you can pick up some liqueur de Frigolet (herbal liquor), a local speciality. The village is quiet and surrounded by countryside, orchards and farms; this is the real Provence yet still full of charm and character and you may be lucky enough to stay during one of the village's many festivities.
The small city of Avignon (12km), with its two UNESCO World Heritage sites, is just a short drive away. Explore the winding medieval streets, take a trip on the road-train around the sights and visit the Pope's Palace and Saint Benezet Bridge. The covered market offers all sorts of delights or head to the weekend farmers, flower and flea markets for wonderful local produce and a bargain or two. There are some excellent dining opportunities across the city and amazing wines to sample.
In this part of Provence you are never far from countryside filled with vineyards, sunflowers or lavender as well as a wealth of idyllic hilltop villages and towns. Head south to the Parc Naturel Regional des Alpilles full of lovely villages such as St-Rémy (10km) and Les-Baux-de-Provence (20km) one of France's acclaimed 'plus beaux villages', or a little further to Van Gogh's precious Arles (36km).
Wine connoisseurs should make the trip to Châteauneuf-du-Pape (28km) amongst many other wine producers in the region. Another idyllic village to visit includes Gordes (38km) with stunning architecture, set in the outstanding Luberon region, surrounded by lavender fields in the summer months.
Those looking for activity have so much on their doorstep. There is both horse-riding and golf within a short drive and both the immediate and wider area are a walkers and cyclists paradise with stunning countryside and landscapes. Older children will love kayaking along the Rhône or Sorgue and there are plenty of other family friendly activities throughout the region from model railways and open castles to trekking across the tree tops and visiting a zoo.
Lovers of history will appreciate the Roman city of Nîmes (44km) with its fine collection of remains including Maison Carree, one of the best preserved Roman temples in the country. Just north of the city is the stunning Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gard, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, a perfect place for a picnic or to hire canoes.
