Bastide de Capucine seamlessly combines the picturesque majesty of its region with tasteful, modern enhancements. Irresistible to anyone seeking a truly authentic and intimate connection with the Provence countryside and its food heritage, your stay here places you right in the heart of one of the Luberon’s foremost olive oil estates.

A charming bijou to a traditional, 1600s Provençal country house, this semi-detached property welcomes its guests with modern, homely comforts - along with a complementary selection of its estate’s phenomenal produce. As well as olive oil, you’ll be treated to fine honey, fresh from the apiary, along with preserves crafted from the fruits of the orchard.

With its tasteful blend of antique and modern styling, the bright and cosy open-plan living area features a farmhouse-style dining table, along with a pair of comfortable sofas that are perfect for snuggling up on at the end of the evening. The wall-mounted television, with international channels, features an integrated DVD player. Plenty of natural light and air flows in during the day, thanks to the arched, Georgian bar portes-fenêtre and large window in the same style, along with another door with a table and chairs just on the other side – ideal for enjoying your morning coffee in the freshest of air.

During any stay in the heart of France’s number one region for fresh produce, you will be inspired to take to the kitchen yourself – even more so while surrounded by orchards and olive trees! The kitchen itself is stylishly designed, with white cabinets to match the surrounding décor, and is equipped with all you will need to get creative, with an integrated counter-top gas hob and wall-mounted oven.

Three upstairs bedrooms with dreamily comfortable double beds – two of which can be split into twins if preferred – sleep up to six guests. All are air-conditioned and immaculately finished, with one featuring a small en-suite with basin, shower and WC. The double aspect bedroom overlooks part of the estate’s olive grove, along with the obligatory, spectacular backdrop of the Vaucluse hills. Also upstairs is the main bathroom, serving the two bedrooms without en-suites.

In keeping with a home set among twenty-seven picturesque acres of olive trees and orchards, its private garden is immaculately planted, with trees dotted on and around its lush green lawn. There are two shaded dining tables, one with a beautiful, wooden pitched roof and chandelier lighting adjacent to the side door. The other, also with lighting above the table for evening dining also has two superb outdoor sofas, making for a sublime entertaining space. The grandiose hillside panorama seen from this table is the same that awaits bathers in this stunning garden’s heated pool, which is generously lined with comfortable sun loungers and parasols.

If you can bring yourself to leave the grounds of this glorious estate,  your intimate connection with the Provence countryside will not be lost before you return, such is its proximity to the region’s most beautiful destinations. Nearby Robion, once a fortified village in the Middle Ages, offers visitors a terrific selection of modern shops, bakeries, butchers and restaurants, with its more typical Luberon architectural heritage to be found a little closer to the mountain. There is good access to main roads, with France’s second city of Marseille, with its magnetising beaches and historic port just an hour’s drive away. Twenty minutes west is Avignon, steeped in history on the banks of the Rhone, with superb artisanal food markets. At the foot of the Luberon, Bastide de Capucine is exceptionally well-located for day trips out, with the warmest of Provençal country welcomes awaiting when you return.

Bastide de Capucine is a perfect, central base from which to explore the wonders of Provence. Nearby Gordes, Ménerbes and Roussillon all showcase the beauty of the undulating Luberon landscape, while the nineteen glorious beaches of France’s second city, Marseille, are only an hour away by road.

As you would expect, you will find no shortage of superb restaurants nearby – it’s Provence, after all! Just five minutes away is the pretty village of Robion. There are numerous stores in the area to gather the essentials for your stay, with the modern side of Robion offering a choice of a small supermarket, artisanal bakeries, a greengrocer and two butchers, with one specialising in barbecue meat. Old Robion exemplifies all the charm associated with the Provençal countryside, and makes an excellent choice for those seeking a stroll close to home. Cobblestone paths, a beautiful stone fountain in the square and, on sunny days, villagers enjoying a game of pétanque, make this a humble, yet typical example of a Luberon village.

For aficionados of architectural history, from Roman times to Renaissance France, the city of Avignon has it all. Take a look into the rich history of this town at the Musée Calvet, which hosts artwork, predominantly paintings of the region, from the sixteenth to twentieth centuries. Visit the four remaining arches of the Saint-Bénézet Bridge for unbeatable views of the Rhone, before heading to explore the spectacular Pont du Gard – a sixth century aqueduct that became a toll bridge in the Middle Ages. Avignon boasts a range of lively bars and restaurants, as well as artisanal shops and markets. The famous Halles market, with its stunning hanging garden, hosts a wide variety of local foods – perfect for finding picnic treats – while Place des Carmes has two of the most popular weekend markets in the entire region, with a farmers’ market on a Saturday and a flea market on Sundays.

Less than ten minutes along the Gordes road is the superb Lavender Museum, open from April to the end of October, where as well as exploring the rich history of one of the area’s most famous exports, children and parents alike can get hands-on with a variety of different workshops.

When looking to please the whole family, what could be better than a day at one of Marseille’s nineteen stunning beaches? Around an hour’s drive from Bastide de Capucine, Plage du Prophète in particular is favoured by those with children of all ages. Reviews

  • Superb spot in the countryside

    on 09/09/2017

We rented this house for a week, located in the countryside in a large olive grove; we loved this very quiet place, it was spacious, comfortable and well equipped, with a beautiful terrace and a beautiful garden and swimming pool. One can find everything in the local village of Robion. We were very well received with lots of little touches (apple juice, jam, etc.). It is a place to recommend in the Luberon.
