Location
About the surrounding area of Apartment PierreWith cobblestone streets, historic buildings and quirky boutiques, Marais feels like a village in the middle of the city. It is, but a short walk to visit Hotel de Ville and Notre Dame can be reached by foot in minutes. A district rich in culture, there are many museums from contemporary art to 18th-century romanticism. Shopping in bijou boutiques and vintage markets or eating in street cafes or Michelin-starred restaurants, we guarantee you will not be bored.
The nearby modern Pompidou Centre is unmissable because of its sheer size and brightly coloured tubes on its exterior. Housing one of France's most extensive contemporary art collections, is a must-see attraction. One of the oldest squares in Paris can be found in Marais. Place des Vosges is not only the oldest but arguably the prettiest. Featuring lawns, fountains and tree-shaded benches, it offers an oasis of calm from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding area. After taking time out in Place des Vosges, it's just a short stroll to Maison Victor Hugo. Here you can explore rooms that Victor Hugo lived and wrote in, notably the one thousand love letters penned during his lifetime. Admission is free.
If fashion is your thing, you will find you are in the heart of a shopping paradise! Department store BHV Paris features a wide range of leisure and designer clothing. The surrounding streets are packed with boutiques and shops selling the most innovative brands in town. Fancy something more bohemian? Marais is a paradise for vintage shopping with several pre-loved clothing shops.
An authentic Parisien neighbourhood, Marais supports many traditions. Marché des Enfants Rouge, the oldest market in Paris, can be found here. A popular destination for all Parisians to stock up on fresh produce, flowers and tasty dishes made on the spot. Food, glorious food! Marais can deliver whatever you fancy, from a light snack to a five-star meal. A restaurant worth visiting for fine French cuisine and opera-singing servers is Le Bel Canto on the banks of the Seine. If all you have time for is a light snack, why not visit the many street food stalls selling anything from crêpes to noodles?
Marais is an LGBT-friendly district and supports a flourishing gay scene of LGBT-friendly bars, clubs and restaurants. Look out for the rainbow pedestrian crossings painted on the road intersections on Rue du Temple and Rue des Archives.
With metro stations and bus stops on your doorstep, you are in the fantastic position of being able to explore the whole of Paris! Using the excellent public transport service, you'll have access to many attractions, galleries, museums, and famous landmarks all across the city.
