Gaze out over vineyards and fields of sunflowers from your beautiful home and incredible gardens at Château des Vignes. Here you are in the heart of Gascony, the home of undulating hills, idyllic bastide villages and some of the finest gastronomy in the world.

The estate dates back to medieval times when there was a fortified château and rumours of an underground tunnel running from a neighbouring church in case of religious persecution. In the 18th century it commenced the production of Armagnac, so famous in this region and continued to do so until recently; the ancient chai remains in the grounds. You are still surrounded by magnificent vineyards with some of the finest wine and Armagnac producers nearby, one just across the fields from the château.

The setting is truly remarkable with splendid views of vines, sunflowers and countryside towards the UNESCO listed church on the hill. The gardens are glorious with over five hectares of immaculate lawns, ancient shady trees and the scent of lavender as you wander down the pretty paths to find your own private corner. Sun-loungers are dotted across the lawns that surround the magnificent pool as you gaze at the vistas of the Gascony countryside that surrounds you. It’s a true haven of tranquillity.

The main château has been lovingly restored with traditional style with wonderful features such as the stone staircase, beautifully tiled floors, pretty fabrics in the three bedrooms and wood beamed ceilings. It feels homely yet magical, a timeless place for complete relaxation. The traditional wood burning fire-place in the kitchen is charming and contrasts perfectly with the modern amenities whilst the elegant dining room is fit for a candle-lit feast. There are plenty of places to relax with two salons, each with doors leading to the wonderful gardens.

Just on the other side of the château is a self-contained villa, ideal for inter-generational families or friends wanting to holiday together. With a more contemporary feel yet still furnished with classical pieces, the villa offers light and airy living space, a well equipped kitchen and two pretty bedrooms plus a separate studio bedroom. French doors open up to a lovely lawn which leads up to the inviting pool.

This is The Gers, the heart of Gascony, Musketeers and foie gras. This is the real France where guests can immerse themselves in authentic, fortified villages, market towns, plenty of traditional local events and some of the best food and wine in the world. Three of France's ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, Fourcès (9km), Larresingle (10km) and Montréal du Gers (15km) are all within a short drive, as is the picturesque town of Condom, where you can hire boats and dine in a Michelin starred restaurant. Be sure to visit the vibrant local market towns to pick up some of the country’s finest produce from this region.

Keen walkers can hike across the neighbouring fields and vineyards to the UNESCO listed church and beyond whilst cyclists will love the quiet roads, gentle hills and stunning scenery.

There’s no doubt that Château des Vignes is a paradise, so quiet and private yet it’s hard to believe that so many highlights of this extraordinary region are within such easy reach.

This is The Gers, the heart of Gascony, Musketeers, foie gras and Grand Armagnac country. This is the real France where guests can immerse themselves in authentic, fortified villages, market towns, plenty of traditional local events and some of the best food and wine in the world.

You’ll be able to hear the church bells ring from a nearby hamlet which is an 800 metre walk through the fields and vineyards or a 3km drive from the château. The  hamlet has a wonderful fortified Church which is now a UNESCO heritage site. A well known Gascon vineyard is a short stroll from the church and visitors are welcome for tastings each day except Sunday.

There are other pretty villages and hamlets in the area to explore.  Mézin (9km) is picturesque with arcaded houses and a church and three of Frances ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, Fourcès (9km), Larresingle (10km) and Montréal du Gers (15km) are all within a short drive. The town of Condom (9km), with further amenities, including a Michelin-starred restaurant as well as boat rental, is only ten minutes away.

There are some incredible wine producers in the area, including one within walking distance of the château. Also, if you have a taste for Armagnac, there are plenty of opportunities to visit local producers and guided tours as well as tastings can be arranged.  There is a wealth of vibrant market towns to visit as well, an experience not to be missed during your time in Gascony.

Keen walkers can hike for miles from the château and you are near the Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle route, visited by hikers from across the world. Gascony is also wonderful for cyclists with mainly quiet roads, gentle hills and stunning scenery. There are golf-courses within half an hour, tennis courts in Condom and horse-riding in the surrounding countryside.

Head to Beaucaire to hire canoes on the River Baise and a little further south at Castéra-Verduzan (30km) there is a lake for swimming with waterslides. If you head west you can find the famous town of Barbotan les Thermes (40km) where you can swim, try watersports and lots of other child friendly activities.

A relatively new addition to France, the Midi-Pyrénées was created to surround the cultural capital of Toulouse in the late 1970s. You might think that its relative youth would mean the Midi-Pyrénées is short on character or identity, but remember, this is France we’re talking about – the whole country is steeped in history and tradition. Encompassing parts of Gascony, Languedoc, the Gers and several others, you’ll get a varied slice of the whole French experience here, not least if you stay at one of our beautiful chateaux in the Midi-Pyrénées! And if you want to discover the best of what the region has to offer, our Midi-Pyrénées travel guide is here to show you where to go, what to eat and how you can make the best of your break with some amazing activities.
