Every bedroom overlooks the glorious blue bay of Villefranche-sur-mer in this French Riviera villa. You’ll continually find yourself drawn to the 3 balconies, where you can watch the sailboats bobbing on a sunny day (it’s almost always sunny at this south-facing property!). No expense has been spared in finishing this home, where oak and marble floors throughout lend an air of cool, relaxed luxury to your visit.

There’s a private heated plunge pool on the lower terrace and a marvellous upper terrace where you can lounge, arrange a barbecue, and simply revel in the view. But of course, you must go to the beach! The yellow sands sit only a couple of minutes walk from the villa. Even closer is the train station, where you can quickly catch the train to Nice, 2 stops away.

All the amenities of the town of Villefranche-sur-mer are just a few minutes from your holiday villa. Here you can rent a boat for a day on the water, or select one of the many restaurants clustered by the seaside. For fine dining on Cap Ferrat, head to the Michelin-starred Le Cap, where the terrace is “superb”. If the food is as lovely as your villa's views, you'll be glad indeed.

Good news! For a little extra, this property can be booked as a Vill’otel

Yey! Wait… what is that?

This enviable location is in the heart of Villefranche-sur-Mer, a beautiful seaside town between Nice and Monaco, in the Alpes-Maritimes department of the Cote d'Azur close to the Italian border.

The main sandy beach, Plage des Marinières, is only 300m away or there’s a smaller beach with pebbles just south of the port, Plage de la Darse, near the citadel, which is good for snorkelling.

You can walk down to the port in under five minutes – you don’t even need to cross any roads. Within 100m there’s also a train station in the town with direct trains to Monaco and Italy via Beaulieu and Èze-sur-Mer and in the other direction Nice and onwards to Cannes and Marseille.

The old port is where some of the best restaurants in the region can be found (such as La Mère Germaine) or head up the narrow lanes and steps towards the charming old quarter of the town.  You’ll find an Italian influence coming through in many of the places to eat.

The old town has beautiful ancient houses lining the steep cobbled streets and wind up and across through the town, passing arches under the houses – the best known is called Rue Obscura. The 16th Century citadel is also a remarkable place to visit with incredible sea-views.

On a practical note, you can hire bikes near the main harbour (where you may sometimes see cruise ships coming in for the day) and there is also tennis in the town.  Boat hire is available on the waterfront and no licence is needed for a small motorboat.

The peninsular of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is incredibly beautiful and has some amazing walking paths to follow with breathtaking views. Discover some of the quiet, hard to reach beaches and some impressive villas where the very wealthy live.  The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild (3.5km) is also a stunning villa and museum definitely worthy of a visit.

There are two further beaches with calm waters in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, only 3km away, a delightful place for a lunch out and to visit the weekly Provencal market.
The charming city of Nice (5km) is an easy bus or train ride away with its Promenade du Paillon park running from the city to the sea, flower markets on Cours Saleya and many art galleries and museums.

The medieval inland village of Èze (7km) is also a delightful day out where you will find shady squares, narrow lanes and mesmerizing sea views.  Fine diners will appreciate the Michelin starred Chèvre D’Or as well as other restaurants with amazing panoramic views.

Extravagant and unique Monaco (16km) can also be reached by train, car or bus. Shoppers will love the designer names on show in many of the principality’s boutiques or for a different experience immerse yourself in the daily Codamine Market, full of Provençal delights. Explore the warren of streets in the old town leading to the Palace, discover one of the many gardens or live the high-life in Monte Carlo’s cafès, restaurants and casinos.

Villefranche-sur-Mer is a lovely spot for kids with everything within walking distance – bear in mind there are lots of steps and picuresque narrow lanes around the town if you have a buggy with you.

The main sandy beach, Plage des Marinières, is just a few minutes away, backed by the train tracks leading to the nearby train station which may excite little ones as they watch the trains go by! To the south of the harbour is the smaller and quieter pebbly beach with wonderful views and good for snorkelling.

There are two further beaches in nearby Beaulieu and further towards Èze-sur-Mer, not to mention the long pebbly beaches around the city of Nice. Across this coastline you will find a range of watersports such as diving, paddle-boarding, para-sailing and kayaking.

Villefranche also has tennis courts in the town and you can hire bikes from near the main harbour.

  • Wonderful villa

    Posted by Aranda on 14/09/2019

Really wonderful villa and location. We took the train every day to a different location and it was great to come back to such a wonderful view. Also, really convenient.

  • Really lovely villa!

Stayed in Villa Franche for Monaco GP week. Only 12 minutes by train to Monaco and location is top class. Also, really lovely villa!

  • I cannot remember better sea views

Posted by Linda Mulreilly on 27/04/2019

We arrived from Virginia and were very tired but immediately got great energy again when we got to Villa Franche. I cannot remember better sea views in any place I have stayed. Very nicely laid out with top class furnishings.

  • Spectacular villa

    Posted by anonymous on 26/11/2014

We’ve visited Villa Franche 5 times now and stayed at Villa Soleia twice. This is a magical village and a spectacular villa. The villa is very well kept, well-furnished and equipped and well managed. You and your friends or family will have a spectacular trip staying here. Both times we’ve stayed we’ve had 12 people and there is plenty of room for all very comfortably. The 4 main house bedrooms are all ensuite and all have full on amazing sea views. They are all very private and comfortable. The nanny’s house beside the main house is a two story loft with a small living room and full bath on the main floor and the double bed up the spiral stairs. Open the windows and you have the same amazing views for about 90 degrees. Extremely private and provides your own living space to relax on your own but close enough to the main house to be part of everything. The separate apartment is located up a flight of stairs in the back part of the property. It is behind the house next door and is blocked from having the view, however, stepping 3 feet out of the apartment provides you about 70 degree sea view and 1 flight of stairs and 10 steps takes you to the main house terrace with full on view! This apartment is a 1 bedroom, 1 full bath, living room and full kitchen.
I cannot say enough about the view and the swimming pool. Both are outstanding. Oh, and there is a great roof top where you can have drinks and enjoy the sunset. You will end up spending your afternoons lounging in the large pool and gazing at the Mediterranean and spending your evenings on the terrace overlooking the incredible village and sea view. If you choose to venture away from this great property, it is an easy thing to do. Villa Ouinade is a leisurely walk into the village where there are many great restaurants and shops. The walk home is an easy grade slightly up hill but be ready for the steps at the villa. It’s all worth it! The train station is super close and do not worry about the trains. They are quiet. You can get to anywhere along the coast for the day or a night out. There are 3 bus stops in Villa Ouinade and one is just about straight up from the villa. Extremely doable but not easy. Do not do it with luggage.
So much to offer in this area and this is the place to stay!
