Overview

Ideal for Kids Pets Welcome Walk to Village Romantic

You are greeted with bright summer flowers at Maison Tulipe, a charming stone house in the delightful market town of Le Bugue. This is the heart of the Dordogne region with so many famous villages and towns within a short drive. That said, whether you are canoeing on the Vézère, shopping in the weekly market or dining in wonderful restaurants, all within a short stroll, you needn’t go far to experience this captivating area.

The little maison, dating back to 1822, is on a quiet lane in the cobbled part of Le Bugue. There is an ancient fountain on the outside wall, just one of the characterful features of the house which has been lovingly restored by its owners. What they have created is a wonderful home, full of tradition and history yet with a high level of comfort and many contemporary features.

With a pretty bedroom featuring parquet flooring up the old wooden stairs, and a balcony perfect for your morning coffee and croissants, this is a romantic abode perfect for a couple or maybe just two friends wanting to be in the heart of Dordogne. The rose filled courtyard on the ground floor is a delightful place to sit for a sundowner before walking into town to one of the many great places to eat. That said, if you prefer to stay indoors, the kitchen-diner offers ample space to create a feast using local ingredients from the market and the lounge is a comfy room to retire to for long evenings chatting with good wine and company.

You can wander into Le Bugue where you can pick up your morning croissants from the boulangerie, find pretty patisseries, discover new wines in one of the finest wine caves in the region and dine in a good selection of local eateries. Don’t miss the bustling market on a Tuesday where you can pick up local produce or explore the wonderful bric-a-brac in the local brocante.

This is a great location near both the Vézère and Dordogne rivers, an area full of pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, vibrant local markets, canoeing on the rivers and unspoilt views of stunning countryside. The pretty Dordogne villages of Limeuil and Tremolat, with its Michelin starred restaurant, are both within a short drive and enchanting places to visit.

Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the city of Périgueux, heading east to the exquisite town of Sarlat or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages along the Dordogne such as La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle. Not forgetting the beautiful city of Bergerac with its unmissable Maisons de Vins.

This is the perfect place for a couple or two friends looking for authentic charm in the heart of a wonderful market town with the Dordogne region on your doorstep to explore.

Don’t miss the bustling market on a Tuesday where you can pick up local produce to cook up a feast to serve in your tranquil courtyard.

The Dordogne and Vézère rivers host a wealth of beautiful villages and towns, many of them classed as France’s Plus Beaux Villages such as glorious Monpazier, a bastide town dating back to the 13th century. To the north you have the sophisticated small city of Périgueux, famous for its amazing black truffles and to the east should visit Sarlat with its maze of medieval narrow streets, lovely squares and amazing restaurants. Not forgetting beautiful Bergerac to the west with its medieval architecture, narrow streets of boutiques and great restaurants as well as the unmissable Maisons de Vins.

Other magical day trips include the Lascaux caves, just outside Montignac and beautiful Limeuil, where the Vézère meets the Dordogne and you can paddle by the river beach or enjoy some fine views from Parc Limeuil after wandering through the delightful village. In addition, head to La Roque Gageac, Château de Beynac or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle for a remarkable day out in the Dordogne.

The whole region is a true haven for nature and sport lovers alike offering a wide array of outdoor activities, from horse-back riding, to tennis, mountain-biking, golfing and watersports, not to mention the number of hiking and fishing opportunities in the area. Take a hot air balloon across this magnificent region or head to many of the tree-top activities in the forests near Sarlat.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.
