Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Reviews

  • Wonderful Holiday

    on 06/09/2022

We are back in the Netherlands for a while, after a two-week holiday in Maison Michel in La Boissiere. We enjoyed a wonderful holiday in Maison Michel. We saw owner Patricia and her husband a few times. Once because it was not entirely clear how to deal with household waste. It is very simple: glass separately, paper separately, the rest can be collected together. 300 meters to the north-west, just over the intersection with the D46, there are three large containers that you can easily store in this way. They came to explain that especially for us, very sympathetic. And once they came very modestly to ask if it was possible for them to come and clean up the garden. I didn't think it was junk, but it didn't bother me that they did that either. In addition, someone comes every other day to clean the pool and water the flower pots. It comes so early that you never actually see it.

Very nice was also the train that passes a few times an hour. Furthermore, it is quite quiet during the day and in the evening after sunset. During rush hour you can hear some traffic noise from the D46 and D6089. But we were not bothered by it.

The house is very Jean des Bouvrie. All white with the accents in the accessories. We thought it was beautiful. Everything is there, and more. You can notice that they live there themselves when there are no guests. The beds were very nice, the bedrooms very quiet, the heat pump very comfortable. We were also allowed to operate the heated pool ourselves in terms of temperature. The heating was off when we came, but after a few days the outside temperature went to 37 degrees and then Patricia and her husband came to explain how we could raise the pool temperature so that the shock was not so great.

The area, all the way from Terrasson to Les Eyzies, is beautiful. We cycled a bit and drove around by car. Lots to see and everything equally characteristic. We also camped a lot in and around the house. Nice in the sun or in the shade, nice in the pool or on the terrace. Just a real holiday, just doing nothing.

In short, we really enjoyed it.

  • Wonderful holiday

    on 06/09/2020

We enjoyed two wonderful weeks in Maison Michel.
The house is fully equipped. Perfectly maintained and super clean.
Good box spring beds, in which we slept wonderfully. The kitchen with the correct and functioning equipment. And a garden and swimming pool with complete privacy. It is also very nice that the swimming pool can be closed with a roller shutter, so that the water maintains the temperature well. The carport for the car is also a plus.
The warm weather (> 30 degrees in September!) And the beautiful Dordogne completed our holiday experience.

  • Excellent!

    on 12/07/2020

We have had an excellent stay, Maison Michel is a really great house. Everything was fine, we really enjoyed it.
