Maison Calme is a house full of tradition and charm with an amazing location just a ten minutes walk from the delightful village of Limeuil, where the Vézère meets the Dordogne. With a pretty swimming pool and lovely patio gardens, this is a wonderful place to relax yet be within easy reach of some of the region’s most enchanting villages and towns.

Drive up a cypress-lined driveway to the pretty French country house with its private grounds. It’s a homely place with everything you need; a spacious sitting room with an open fire-place, a formal dining room and a pretty kitchen where keen chefs can cook up feasts with ingredients from local markets. You can sit and have your morning coffee in the lovely summer room or under the shade of the beautiful trees on the patio. Upstairs the four simple bedrooms are traditional and sweet with a mixture of contemporary and antique furnishings. Outside the swimming pool is a relaxing place to cool down or rest in the sun.

If you peep through the trees you can see the nearby village and where the rivers meet. In delightful Limeuil, you’ll find a couple of lovely restaurants, an organic grocery store and a nice bar. This is where the Vézère meets the Dordogne and you can paddle by the river beach or enjoy some fine views from Parc Limeuil after wandering through the pretty village. The historic town of Le Bugue (7km), with its charming shops and bustling market on a Tuesday is also not to be missed.

Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the city of Périgueux, heading east to the exquisite town of Sarlat or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages along the Dordogne such as La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle. Not forgetting the beautiful city of Bergerac with its unmissable Maisons de Vins.

This traditional French house is in such a lovely location; it really is the perfect place to relax in your private grounds yet be within walking distance to one of Dordogne’s loveliest villages.

The Dordogne is known as the valley of 1000 chateaux with endless pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, local markets and spectacular valleys and rivers. Both the Vézère and the Dordogne rivers offer great kayaking, canoeing and unparalleled views of the countryside.

Maison Calme is only a 10 minutes walk (600m) down the road to the delightful village of Limeuil, with a couple of lovely restaurants, an organic grocery store and a nice bar. This is where the Vézère meets the Dordogne and you can paddle by the river beach or enjoy some fine views from Parc Limeuil after wandering through the pretty village.

You can drive up to Le Bugue (7km) within a few minutes where you can walk by the Vézère, find pretty patisseries, discover new wines in one of the finest wine caves in the region and dine in excellent restaurants. There is also a good choice of supermarkets, banks and other town facilities. Don’t miss the bustling market on a Tuesday where you can pick up local produce to cook up a feast to serve at home.

The Dordogne and Vézère region host a wealth of beautiful villages and towns, many of them classed as France’s Plus Beaux Villages such as glorious Monpazier, a bastide town dating back to the 13th century. To the north you have the sophisticated small city of Périgueux, famous for its amazing black truffles and to the east should visit Sarlat with its maze of medieval narrow streets, lovely squares and amazing restaurants. Not forgetting beautiful Bergerac to the west with its medieval architecture, narrow streets of boutiques and great restaurants as well as the unmissable Maisons de Vins.

Other magical day trips include the Lascaux caves, just outside Montignac and nearby Tremolat with its Michelin starred restaurant, Le Vieux Logis. In addition, head to La Roque Gageac, Château de Beynac or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle for a remarkable day out in the Dordogne.

The whole region is a true haven for nature and sport lovers alike offering a wide array of outdoor activities, from horse-back riding, to tennis, mountain-biking, golfing and watersports, not to mention the number of hiking and fishing opportunities in the area. Children will love the nearby waterparks, visiting the Aquarium du Perigord Noir and Jungle Golf in Le Bugue, exploring prehistoric caves and historic castles or even a magnificent hot air balloon ride across the stunning region. The more adventurous may enjoy go-karting just south of Périgueux or tree-top activities in the forests near Sarlat or Bergerac.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.
