Overview
Maison Ambroisine is such a charming and beautiful holiday home with a private heated swimming pool, in a traditional Dordogne village classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, located between Montignac-Lascaux and Sarlat.
One of three neighbouring villas, each with their own private pool and gorgeous terrace with views, this alluring abode has been cleverly designed without vis-à-vis, with pretty picture windows overlooking the surrounding parkland and valley beyond.
The perfect blend of authenticity alongside plenty of modern touches, this home was once the original village forge – the thick stone walls, exposed wood and original fireplace reminds you of bygone times.
Inside, there are four bedrooms and bathrooms, a spacious and inviting open plan kitchen-diner as well as a separate lounge reached via a characterful arch. Step outside to enjoy the delightful terrace and lawn area, a fantastic space for relaxing with such a glorious outlook. Not to mention the private heated swimming pool.
This is such an enchanting setting in an old village with typical Périgordian houses and tiled roofs alongside the picturesque church and ruins of the old abbey. In the summer months a little teashop sells croissants and fresh bread whilst there is an atmospheric market on Tuesday evenings from late June to early September.
Admire the old houses by the banks of the Vézère in nearby Montignac, around 10km away, and visit the incredible Lascaux-International Centre for Cave Art nearby. Sarlat-la-Canéda is another fine day out with its gastronomic delights, a true highlight of this region, or drive further afield to experience the historic beauty and bustling markets of Périgueux.
Whether canoeing along the river, visiting vineyards, châteaux and pre-historic sites, coming across idyllic Dordogne villages or simply cycling, walking or horse-riding through the undulating landscapes, this region offers endless delights for every age.

About the surrounding area of Maison AmbroisineLocated between Montignac-Lascaux (10km) and Sarlat-la-Canéda (23km), surrounded by glorious Dordogne countryside, Maison Ambroisine is located in one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.
Potter into the village where you will find its pretty church, abbey ruins as well as the village’s old bread oven and lavoir. In the summer months you can pick up fresh bread from the little tea shop and from late June to early September there’s usually a typical night market on a Tuesday evening in the village square.
Look out for all sorts of regional specialities of the Périgord Noir at the weekly market in nearby Montignac-Lascaux, a historic town on the banks of the Vézère and close to the famous Lascaux-International Centre for Cave Art. There are canoeing and kayaking opportunities along the river here as well as some wonderful walks, hikes and cycle rides across this area.
You will no doubt come across so many pretty villages as you explore the region, including another one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère (19km), as well as many impressive châteaux such as nearby Château Losse (15km) and its gardens. A little further away, Limeuil (45km) is a delightful place to spend time, where the Vézère meets the Dordogne. Admire views from the gorgeous Parc Limeuil or venture down to the water to paddle on the village’s river beach.
The much-loved town of Sarlat-la-Canéda (23km) is such a wonderful day out with its maze of medieval narrow lanes, pretty squares and impressive cathedral. The town has a great reputation for its gastronomy whether sampling Périgord truffles and local foie gras in well-regarded restaurants or soaking up the ambience of the town’s bustling market. Avoid the many summer tourists by heading there early and enjoy the best of the morning light.
A little further south are Dordogne gems including Château de Beynac (32km), Domme (35km) and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (38km), all near the banks of the Dordogne. Alternatively, head west to Périgueux (63km), the capital city of the Périgord, for more wonderful markets and historic architecture.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Best Suited For: All AgesFrom horse-riding within a 30-minute drive to many wonderful walks for various abilities nearby, there is such a great range of activities for all ages in this part of the Dordogne.
In nearby Montignac, close to the pre-historic cave painting of Lascaux, you will find a Parc de Losirs open in the summer months offering mini-golf, mini-bowling and an inflatable play park (for two hours in the late afternoon). Furthermore, you will find canoeing and kayaking opportunities along the picturesque Vézère.
As well as the many fascinating pre-historic sites across the Vézère valley, the busy town of Le Bugue (40km) features numerous family attractions/amusement parks including the popular Aquarium Périgord Noir and the charming Parc Le Bournat.
Head to the area close to Sarlat for tree-top adventures or perhaps youngsters may prefer to discover Parc aux Dinosaures near the idyllic village of Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère.
