Overview

Pool

Surrounded by lush countryside, little streams and swathes of lavender in the garden, Le Ruisseau is a wonderful stone house in a great location just south of the Dordogne river.

On a country road, just a 3km drive from the local village, this villa has recently been renovated to a high standard and the owners have created a warm and welcoming home, the perfect place for guests on their Dordogne adventure. Despite the recent renovations, such as the fully modernised kitchen, the house is full of characterful features such as wood beamed ceilings, exposed brickwork and an open fire-place in the lovely living room. The owners have put their own stamp on the home with traditional furnishings offering a high level of comfort, contrasting with bright bathrooms and lovely bedrooms, including an impressive master double on the first floor.

Outside the gardens are fantastic with the scent of lavender, sounds of the nearby stream and fruit from the cherry trees plus lots of open space to relax and enjoy the views. The contemporary swimming pool has a spacious poolside terrace and great platform for sun-bathing or you can head to the lazy hammocks under the shady trees by the picturesque al-fresco dining area.

This is a great location in the Dordogne, an area full of pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, vibrant local markets, canoeing on the river and unspoilt views of stunning countryside. The nearest village, a charming place with an 11th Century church and ruins of a beautiful abbey, where concerts are held in the summer time. There’s a small café-brasserie or you could drive to nearby Beaumont (4km), a lovely bastide town with further restaurants and some nice little shops and galleries. In the summer check out the weekly night market for an atmospheric and true Dordogne experience.

Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the city of Périgueux, heading north over the river to the exquisite town of Sarlat or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages along the Dordogne such as La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, all within easy reach. Not forgetting the nearby beautiful city of Bergerac with its unmissable Maisons de Vins.

In the heart of this captivating region, Le Ruisseau offers you comfort and space for friends or an older family, allowing you to explore the Dordogne to your hearts content.

The Dordogne is known as the valley of 1000 chateaux with endless pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, local markets and spectacular valleys and rivers. The Dordogne river offers great kayaking, canoeing and unparalleled views of the countryside.

The nearest village is 3km away, a charming place with an 11th Century church and ruins of a beautiful abbey, where concerts are held in the summer time. There’s a small café-brasserie or you could drive to nearby Beaumont (4km), a lovely bastide town with further restaurants and some nice little shops and galleries. In the summer check out the weekly night market for an atmospheric and truly Dordogne experience.

The Dordogne region hosts a wealth of beautiful villages and towns, many of them classed as France’s Plus Beaux Villages such as glorious Monpazier (14km), a bastide town dating back to the 13th century. To the north you have the sophisticated small city of Périgueux (66km), famous for its amazing black truffles and to the north-east should visit Sarlat (50km) with its maze of medieval narrow streets, lovely squares and amazing restaurants. Not forgetting beautiful Bergerac (34km) to the west with its medieval architecture as well as the unmissable Maisons de Vins. Combine with charming Issigeac (18km), another charming medieval village en route.

Other magical day trips include the Lascaux caves, just outside Montignac (60km) and beautiful Limeuil (20km), where the Vézère river meets the Dordogne and you can paddle by the river beach or enjoy some fine views from Parc Limeuil after wandering through the delightful village. In addition, head to La Roque Gageac (45km), Château de Beynac (40km) or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (36km) for a remarkable day out in the Dordogne.

The whole region is a true haven for nature and sport lovers alike offering a wide array of outdoor activities, from horse-back riding, to tennis, mountain-biking, golfing and watersports, not to mention the number of hiking and fishing opportunities in the area. Teens will love the nearby waterparks, visiting the Aquarium du Perigord Noir, exploring prehistoric caves and historic castles or even a magnificent hot air balloon ride across the stunning region. The more adventurous may enjoy go-karting just south of Périgueux or tree-top activities in the forests near Sarlat.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.
