Overview

Pool Ideal for Kids

Listen to the bird singing as you gaze out to wonderful views of rolling hills at charming Le Muret. This characterful stone house is in an idyllic tranquil setting yet within a short drive you can be visiting some of the regions prettiest villages and towns or canoeing along the Vézère or Dordogne.

Follow the winding road up to a tiny private hamlet and Le Muret is situated at the end, meaning the house has amazing valley views. It’s quiet and peaceful here, you can enjoy sitting under the shade of a tree listening to the sounds of nature or relaxing by the glorious swimming pool with its spacious sunbathing terrace. Take your morning coffee on the little kitchen terrace as your senses slowly awake to the sight of the beautiful countryside around you.

Inside the owners have created a warm ambience with a cosy living room with wood flooring and exposed stonework plus a brilliant farmhouse style kitchen-diner with terracotta flooring offering ample space to cook up a feast to serve by the old stone fireplace. Old solid oak stairs lead up to three sweet bedrooms with characterful low ceilings and exposed wooden beams.

This is a great location near both the Vézère and Dordogne rivers, an area full of pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, vibrant local markets, canoeing on the rivers and unspoilt views of stunning countryside. Nearby Sainte-Alvère has a great restaurant, pretty shops and a small grocery or head to the bustling market on a Tuesday in Le Bugue on the Vézère river, only 10km with some great shops and places to eat. Don’t miss beautiful Limeuil, where the Vézère meets the Dordogne and you can paddle by the river beach or enjoy some fine views from Parc Limeuil after wandering through the delightful village.

Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the city of Périgueux, heading east to the exquisite town of Sarlat or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages along the Dordogne such as La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle. Not forgetting the beautiful city of Bergerac with its unmissable Maisons de Vins.

Yet despite having some of Dordogne’s prettiest villages and towns so near, Le Muret is all about the tranquil surroundings making it a wonderful place for a relaxing holiday.

The Dordogne is known as the valley of 1000 chateaux with endless pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, local markets and spectacular valleys and rivers. Both the Vézère and the Dordogne rivers offer great kayaking, canoeing and unparalleled views of the countryside.

The nearest village of Sainte-Alvère (4km) is a short drive away where you will find a great restaurant and some lovely shops. It is well known for having one of France’s best truffle markets every Monday from December to February and in the summer months the market comes back alive selling local produce.

It’s a little further to Le Bugue (10km) where you can find pretty patisseries, discover new wines in one of the finest wine caves in the region and dine in traditional restaurants. There is also a good choice of supermarkets, banks and other town facilities. Don’t miss the bustling market on a Tuesday where you can pick up local produce to cook up a feast to serve back at home.

This is a great location near both the Vézère and Dordogne rivers, an area full of pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, vibrant local markets, canoeing on the rivers and unspoilt views of stunning countryside. Nearby is beautiful Limeuil, where the Vézère meets the Dordogne and you can paddle by the river beach or enjoy some fine views from Parc Limeuil after wandering through the delightful village. The pretty Dordogne villages of Tremolat, with its Michelin starred restaurant, is also within a short drive and an enchanting place to visit.

Many of the villages in the Dordogne region are classed as France’s Plus Beaux Villages such as glorious Monpazier, a bastide town dating back to the 13th century. To the north you have the sophisticated small city of Périgueux, famous for its amazing black truffles and to the east should visit Sarlat with its maze of medieval narrow streets, lovely squares and amazing restaurants. Not forgetting beautiful Bergerac to the west with its medieval architecture, narrow streets of boutiques and great restaurants as well as the unmissable Maisons de Vins.

Other magical day trips include the Lascaux caves, just outside Montignac or head to La Roque Gageac, Château de Beynac or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle for remarkable days out in the Dordogne.

The whole region is a true haven for nature and sport lovers alike offering a wide array of outdoor activities, from horse-back riding and a nearby pony club to tennis, mountain-biking, golfing and watersports, not to mention the number of hiking and fishing opportunities in the area. Children will love the nearby waterparks, visiting the Aquarium du Perigord Noir and Jungle Golf in Le Bugue, exploring prehistoric caves and historic castles or even a magnificent hot air balloon ride across the stunning region. The more adventurous may enjoy go-karting just south of Périgueux or tree-top activities in the forests near Sarlat or Bergerac.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.
