With wide open views of the surrounding Burgundy countryside, dotted with fields, farmhouses and a windmill, Le Champ Vert is a delightful holiday home in a relaxing part of this tranquil region.

With wonderful living spaces and six individual bedrooms plus five bright bathrooms across two detached homes next to each other, Le Champ Vert offers a fantastic place for extended family or friends to gather together for a restful holiday. The owners have refurbished both houses in their own great style with beautiful historical pieces, quirky furnishings and modern touches, giving it a homely yet interesting feel. The impressive open-plan living and dining area is a convivial place to gather in the evenings. Head through the arch to the lovely kitchen which spills out to the al-fresco terrace where hours can be spent gazing at the views, dining on great food and fine local wines.

Outside, the open grounds offer wonderful vistas of the surrounding region and an especially large swimming pool with naturally filtered water, just perfect whether you wish to simply cool off or swim some decent lengths. Interesting pieces of sculpture are dotted around the gardens as well as shady trees, lazy sun-loungers and wide lawns allowing plenty of space for guests of any age to rest or play.

It’s only 1km to the local village, a quiet place where you can pick up your bread or grab a coffee. Within a 10 minutes drive is Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye (9km), a delightful little village famous for its pottery with a museum dedicated to this art form and plenty of workshops still thrive to this day. Here you will find some restaurants, a lovely patisserie and a supermarket. Drive a little further north to discover Saint-Fargeau with its magnificent castle or Toucy with its picturesque weekly market on a Saturday morning.

Exploring further afield will take you to charming villages and market towns such as Sancerre with its fine wines, Briare on the banks of the Loire or a little further to the famous hilltop town of Vézelay. The spectacular cities of Auxerre, Nevers and Orléans can be visited within a day or you may prefer to spend your time exploring magical castles, discovering idyllic vineyards or taking a boat trip or hiring canoes down the Loire or Yonne rivers.

With hikes, mountain biking and horse-riding nearby, as well as other family activities such as tree-top adventures, lakes and farms, there is a great deal to explore in this tranquil part of Burgundy, before returning to the wonderful space of your charming and characterful holiday home.

You are also near the borders of the Cher, Yonne and Loiret departments, each one with charming villages and market towns, fascinating art and history and fine wines to sample. This part of Burgundy offers undulating landscapes of woodlands, vineyards and small lakes as well as the Loire and Yonne rivers only a short drive away.

You are just outside a small and quiet village (1km) where you can grab a coffee and pick up your morning bread from the bakery. A little further just ten minutes by car is Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, a delightful little village famous for its pottery with a museum dedicated to this art form and plenty of workshops still thrive to this day. Here you will find some restaurants, a lovely patisserie and a supermarket.

North of the house, across the border to the Yonne department, is the town of Saint-Fargeau (22km) with its remarkable castle open from Spring to Autumn, sometimes featuring special events such as amazing re-enactments. There’s also a lovely farm nearby, Ferme du Château (22km), open at the weekends, where visitors can get hands on with the animals, a brilliant place for families. Kids will also love the Parc Naturel de Boutissaint (17km) where you can see many animals in their natural surroundings. Another local attraction is Guédelon (17km) where you can watch a 13th century castle being built using only authentic tools and locally sourced materials, taking many years, as well as other interesting events taking place on site. Finally, in this area, don’t miss the Saturday morning market in Toucy (35km) which has been voted one of the most picturesque in Burgundy.

There’s a great range of activities in the local area with beautiful hikes, canoeing on nearby lakes or rivers, horse-riding and tennis locally and some brilliant opportunities for cycling and mountain biking. Lac du Bourdon (19km) offers fishing, canoeing and wonderful walks along its shore or nearby woodlands. Tree-top adventurers should head to Nature Adventure (15km) with all sorts of activities on offer including paintballing.

Heading across to the Loiret department, explore close to home in the stunning gardens of Château de la Bussiere (52km) or the attractive town of Gien (55km) on the Loire River with its weekly market. Briare (43km), also a market town, is where the Loire River crosses with the Canal de Briare with lovely riverside walks, boat and canal trips and wonderful flower filled streets in the late spring and summer.  You can also take a day trip to the home of Joan of Arc, Orléans (120km), with its stunning medieval centre and cathedral.

Wine-lovers will appreciate being an hour away from Sancerre (35km), a picturesque village with more than 300 vineyards or wine caves in the surrounding area where you can often sample and buy the white wines of this region. If wine isn’t your thing, the local goat’s cheese is also held in high esteem!

Back in Yonne, the famous and charming hilltop town of Vézelay (53km), on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, has been loved by Christians, writers, artists, historians and lovers of Romanesque architecture. Visiting the 12th century Basilica is a must and afterwards stroll through the beautifully preserved streets full of colourful flowers in the summer months.
