Overview of La Tour De Fontaine

What Oliver loves…

  • This chateau in Burgundy is quintessentially French (the ivy-covered turret attests to that!)
  • A child-friendly estate, kids will love the playground, swings, and games.
  • Brigitte will help you with anything you need - she’s been described as a “devoted host”.

What you should know…

  • Be aware, no pets are allowed.
  • You’ll need a car hire, as it’s a quite remote estate (there’s room to park 8 cars easily!)

As soon as you enter the drive of this 500-year-old turreted chateau in Burgundy, your fairytale begins. Imagine a lustrous garden party beside the pond, part of the 3 hectares of parkland gracing this estate. Sparkling conversation can flow all the way down to the river, where any fishermen in the crowd may find their pleasure. Your wedding or corporate event will happen without a hitch, thanks to Brigitte, who will arrange whatever services you might desire.

Inside the furnishings are modern and simple, while rustic touches remind you of this property’s storied past. A games room will keep the children occupied, even if the private pool is closed (it opens from May to September). Indoor gatherings are grand indeed, held in the beautifully tiled reception room. When the party’s done, retire to one of the gorgeous suites...perhaps have a soak in the blue claw-foot bathtub!

A truly isolated retreat, the pretty riverside commune of Is-sur-Tille is a 15 minute drive. Get your groceries here (the local bakery delivers!) If you've a mind to explore the region, this holiday chateau sits 25 minutes from Dijon, and 1 hour from Beaune, the heart of the Burgundy wine region.

Map, Location & Local Information

This very lovely property of 700 sq. m. is located in the country side of Burgundy (France), 25 minutes’ drive from Dijon, 1 hour drive to Beaune & Nuits St Georges.

You can reach by car in 15 minutes the closest village of Is sur Tille where you will find grocery shopping, supermarket and almost anything you need, a very nice bakery shop is at only 5mn drive, this can be deleverage on request.

La Tour De Fontaine begun its life in1511: A man called “Pierre de Rey”built an ironworks beside the river to use the hydraulic force of its waters. At the same time a house was built for the ironmasters.

In 1710, the house was occupied by a family from the Haute-Marne area who lived there for several generations. The property remained in the hands of family descendants until the early 20th century. In the 19th century one of them had his coat-of-arms carved onto the fireplace, and the house took on a proper ‘bourgeois’ appearance. Barns and an old outbuilding from the ironworks remain on the property, with a well-stocked category 1 fishing river (trout and grayling) and attractive 3 hectare park. A beach has been laid out on the river bank and there is an outdoor swimming pool heated to 28°.

The current owners, took over the property in 2006. They subtly convey their love of old buildings and stylish, modern and design, making this a distinctive and welcoming place to stay.

Reviews for La Tour De Fontaine

La Tour De Fontaine Reviews

  • Fantastic property and excellent host! A dream vacation in Burgundy!

Posted by Cheryl M. on 01/10/2016

My husband and I live in New York City and Connecticut. A combination of my 60th birthday and our 20th anniversary was the catalyst for our trip. We were a total of 8 adults occupying the house. Our stay at La Tour de Fontaine was everything we dreamed of and more! Brigitte is an exquisitely talented host who went above and beyond to make sure our celebration was flawless. Brigitte helped us to find a musical quartet to play at our welcome dinner, book a Michelin starred caterer who created an unforgettable dining experience, set up a fishing trip with a guide, arrange for transportation to visit wineries - and even have fresh croissants and baguettes delivered every morning! We love to walk and hike and could not imagine a more ideal setting. The property has gorgeous walking paths along the river running near the chateau and it backs up against a National Forest. We opted to have two housekeepers with us for our stay - each of them was delightful and very helpful and their presence made our visit all the more enjoyable. The beds were all exceedingly comfortable and all the bedrooms were beautifully decorated with just the right touch of whimsy. The house was impeccably clean - and very warm and cozy (not always easy in a stone structure built centuries ago!) Finally, just to demonstrate Brigitte's commitment to her guests; we had some difficulty with our rental car which was completely unrelated to our house rental. Nevertheless, Brigitte took it upon herself to step in and sort out the entire issue with the local rental agent. We were very touched. We give La Tour de Fontaine our highest recommendation, whether for an all adult group or a group of adults and children, this is a magical location with a very devoted host.
