Château Emirol is a unique and rare find given its lovely setting and fantastic location near Libourne and Saint Emilion.

Built from traditional Girondine stone in 1818, Château Emirol is located in the Fronsadais wine territory. The inviting surroundings of the Château come complete with a tennis court and swimming pool. The hillside setting offers guests great views of the countryside, as well as the surrounding working vineyards. With direct access from the Chateau grounds, the undulating hills of Fronsac will appeal to those who enjoy hiking, cycling, fishing and horse-riding.

Château Emirol is superbly positioned, offering quick and easy access to routes to discover the World Heritage site of St Emilion and the adjoining world-renowned vineyards of Pomerol. The bustling, lively market town of Libourne, which hosts the most wonderful markets three mornings a week, is less than 10 minutes by car. The cosmopolitan and elegant city of Bordeaux is less than a half hour’s drive away. The unspoiled Atlantic coastline is also within very easy reach. For wine lovers, The Haut Medoc and Sauterne regions are both within a reasonably short drive.

For dining out, opposite the Château's gates is a traditional, local restaurant overlooking a lake and the surrounding woodlands. Libourne and St Emilion have a vast variety of restaurants ranging from the traditional style French Brasseries to high end gourmet Michelin restaurants.

Canoeing is also possible on the Dordogne river, and fishing at the lake directly opposite the property is available. River cruises are available from Libourne. Neighbouring Chateaux offer all year round visits to their spectacular caves.

For local shopping, the market town of Libourne is closest and is a 10 minute drive. You will find all local produce available for sale at the market, held 3 mornings a week, and on the perimeter of the town there are a wide range of major supermarkets.

A 15 minute drive brings you to Saint Emilion which is renowned the world over for its red wine. Saint Emilion is a medieval town and can be likened to an amazing open-air museum. There are numerous historical monuments, museums and galleries, gourmet restaurants famed for their Bordelaise cuisine and countless designer shops to visit in the cosmopolitan city of Bordeaux which is famed for its architectural heritage of the 18th century. It is a 25 minutes drive.

An hours drive brings you to the Atlantic Ocean with its sand dunes, large ocean breakers, some of Europe’s finest unspoiled beaches and glamorous Cap Ferret, where the wealthy of today still choose to spend their summers and dine in some of the finest seafood restaurants to be found on this coastline. Measuring 107 meters, the Dune de Pyla is Europe‘s highest sand dune. From the summit there are truly breathtaking views of the ocean, the surrounding woodlands and the distant Pyrenees. It is well worth the hike up just so you can run down it. For the young at heart, surf enthusiasts should visit Lacanau, which hosts one of Europe’s biggest surf competitions. It is a really fun place with plenty of restaurants and beachwear boutiques. Alternatively, you could visit the charming, buzzing ocean side town of Arcachon with its oyster bays and its protected basin that is ideal for children.

In the neighbouring Dordogne, a suggested day trip would be to explore the well known Caves of Lascaux. Closer to the Chateau is the famous citadelle of Blaye.

  • We had a lovely time

Posted by Clive B. on 03/07/2017

Dear Jane, just a short note to say that we had a lovely time at your property. We were all impressed as to how well it was equipped and it was a pleasure to be in a house which had everything that we could have wanted. We had temperatures of 34 to 37 C so the pool was a godsend ( and so was the ice maker in the fridge/freezer!) I liked the the restaurant opposite the gates to the property (Chez Carles). Madame who runs it can be a bit frosty (at first )but she seems to have the same attitude with the locals, apart from the Gendarmes who eat their every day! The food is hearty and good value L'Escapade up the road was very good and extremely good value as well. Thanks once again.

  • Thank you for a great stay

We are six Australians and have recently spent a week at Chateau Emirol on 20th May 2017. We were thrilled to find the Chateau was everything and more than we could imagine and very true to what was advertised by Oliver's Travels which is always a good thing especially when we travelled so far. The grounds were fabulous and we really enjoyed the pool each afternoon after a long day sightseeing. The Chateau was very comfortable , nicely decorated and very well stocked. Out night with Mathieu was exceptional, an experience we won't forget . The location was great very peaceful but close enough to Libourne for supplies. Thank you Jane for a great stay

  • We enjoyed our holiday

Posted by David E. on 15/09/2016

Hi Jane, a rather belated note to say how much we enjoyed our holiday in Bordeaux staying at your Chateau. It was very spacious, well appointed and very well equipped (especially the kitchen) and the pool and surrounding area were superb. We loved eating outside on the terrace and the garden was great for exploring - tomatoes, plums... delicious. Giles made the best plum frangipani tart for us! Finley went to great effort to write the thank you letter from us all and in his words it says how we all felt. Many thanks for the lovely wine which we all supped and enjoyed - Christian was absolutely charming and made us very welcome when we paid him a visit to buy some wine.

Dear Jane, we have all had a thoroughly enjoyable 2 weeks at your adorable chateau. Sadly we must leave this oasis tomorrow. When B asked me where I wanted to go this summer to celebrate (?) my 50th birthday, I decided on Bordeaux .. an area I have never visited except by proxy wine menus. She searched for a great place and we have all been exceptionally pleased with the result. We have enjoyed time out and about in Bordeaux, St Emilion and Libourne. We have enjoyed wine tasting and particularly at Chateau Mazaris. The car will be a lot heavier on the way back and we have a wine delivery soon after we get home. We will have many bottles to drink over the next few years to remind us of our lovely time here. The tennis and pool were so enjoyable. We love the chateau inside. It is very well equipped. Access to BBC sport, for me in particular during the Olympics was a big plus. Your restaurant recommendations were excellent. We would really love to come back one day.

Dear Jane, It has been such a pleasure staying in your beautiful home, We love the whole area, the wineries, the food, the whole experience and we will definitely be back. It has been an absolute pleasure to stay here. To be honest my husband and I don't normally stay in villas, it is always hotels. But your home made us feel so at ease. We cooked and stayed in 2 evenings and it was really lovely to have the children lounge around and be relaxed. We have always worried what sort of facilities we would find. But your house is so well equipped with a great kitchen and good bathrooms. And your taste in decor made it a pleasant stay … very homely and very special. Thank you.

  • Thank you for an excellent holiday

We had a splendid family gathering. We have played lots of games and read lots of books. The weather has been a little cruel to us which did not hamper our ability to enjoy your lovely swimming pool and tennis court. We have had some excellent visits (St Emilion, Chateau de la Riviere, Bordeaux) and some great meals out (Libourne, Montagne, Chez Carles) .. so many thanks for all the tips. Thank you for an excellent holiday.

  • Wonderful Chateau stay

We really did have a super time at the house. It was totally perfect for all our needs and by far the best equipped house we have rented. The house was totally perfect for our children as the garden is so safe - they really enjoyed the freedom we could allow them. All is all we plan and hope to return soon.

Many thanks also to your excellent team Katrina, Karen, Yves and Patty who all went out of their way to make sure that we had a fun, enjoyable and memorable holiday.

My Mother, Father, brother and I were so looking forward to staying at your home after seeing the beautiful photos .. it did not disappoint!! As well as being a gorgeous home with lovely grounds, every detail was thought out on the inside. Your well appointed kitchen allowed us to cook many meals from the produce we bought at Libourne markets and then enjoy on the terrace in the sun. We will miss our morning walks to the local boulangerie and afternoons by the pool after wine tasting all day.

  • We had a wonderful stay!

! I couldn't be more pleased with the way things have worked out. The Chateau is so beautiful, elegant yet very comfortable. We are all enjoying ourselves, using tennis courts almost daily and the kids love the pool. The weather has been perfect for touring around and we visit somewhere almost daily. Today we are going to the coast for a little beach . We did the sand dunes last week, visited St Emilion, Bordeaux , a couple of chateaux, an abbey and yesterday we went to Bourg for Fete National. Good fun. It really is a spectacular area and we have loved every minute.

Chateau la Roque is a very comfortable house to stay in. The bedrooms and bathrooms are of a high standard and the kitchen is very well kitted out. The gardens are lovely, marred a little by noise from a busy road at the bottom of the hill, but we enjoyed using the tennis court and pool - once we had got used to the temperature of the water and played many games of boules. The huge outside table is perfectly placed by a large tree which gives shade at the right times of day and made meals outside very enjoyable.

Thank you for opening your amazing home. Bordeaux, Libourne and St
Emilion are lovely and we are so grateful to have spent our time
vacationing in your sanctuary - a perfect place for our friends to meet.
I assume our group was not among your standard guests - five couples!
Most of us met while attending Cornell University and have a fraternity,
sorority of a major study in common. Frederico and I dreamt of a time
when all of us could be together in the same place again (it has been 5
years) and we are so happy to have found Chateau La Roque. Whether by
plane, train or automobile (and some a combination of!) we all arrived
in Bordeaux for our 1 week stay. We split the days between playing
tennis, tasting delicious wine, shopping and eating (thank you
Christophe). We left Bordeaux feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and cant
wait to return. To all future guests, we hope you enjoy this little
slice of heaven as much as we did. It is truly something to be
    cherished.

  • A great holiday with friends old and new.

Thank you Jane for the warmth and comfort of your home. It enabled us
to relax and explore the area with ease - and what a wonderful area. The
birthday bash in Bordeaux was a great success, as was our evening with
Christophe who looked after us like royalty. Thank you for providing
facilities such as pool, tennis court and bikes which were all much
    appreciated.

A great holiday with friends old and new.

  • We cannot compliment you enough...

Posted by Mr Hobbs on 08/11/2012

7 of our extended family travelled from Australia, UK and South Africa,
and spent a wonderful 5 days at your chateau in April.

We cannot compliment you enough on its location just west of Libourne.
Beautifully appointed, 5 bedrooms all en suite and a large living area
with modern kitchen made it ideal for 3 families.

The views from every room were terrific and made the choice of a lazy
day around the chateau versus short trips to nearby St Emilion, Pomerol
and the Medoc a difficult one! The chateau of Fronsac, many within
walking distance, were a delight in that they were so close and
unexpected. We would like to return, perhaps next time in summer so that
we can make use of the swimming pool.

  • Your chateau is gorgeous......

Posted by Anonymous User on 02/07/2012

Dear Jane Just wanted to say thankyou for hiring your chateau to us, we had a most wonderful family holiday and it was really special to all be together in the chateau to celebrate my parent's ruby wedding. Your chateau is gorgeous, it's just a shame we only booked for a week, could easily have stayed much longer! Thankyou too for your recommendation of Christophe and Florence.  We really enjoyed both our dinners from Christophe, in particular the ruby wedding meal which made the anniversary more special. Florence was also a great source of information during our stay and was incredibly helpful. We had a fantastic time and would not hesitate in recommending a stay in Chateau La Roque to friends and family Thanks again Best wishes Jennyxx

Dear Jane, your home is absolutely beautiful and the setting just idylic. We very much appreciated your attention to detail, I hope the orchids survived as we did not realize they were real until the blooms started dropping off! We could have easily spent more time in the area, there is so much to see and do. We did manage a visit to both St Emilion and Bordeaux. Thank you again for such a wonderful week.

Posted by Neil R on 29/07/2010

Hi Jane, Thanks for a lovely week in your Chateau, we really did have a wonderful week and were sad to leave. The house is so well equipped that we really did not miss anything from home. The kids loved jumping in and out of the pool and relaxing around the garden. Christophe is a brilliant find, he cooked us all two lovely meals, if we could have booked him for the full week we would have done so, maybe next time!
