With glorious views of vineyards from the beautiful grounds, this historic manor house is a wonderful place to stay when visiting the world-renowned wineries and incredible beaches of the Médoc peninsular.

This 19th century Maison de Maître is part of an estate that produces a fine red wine in a characterful wine-village near the Gironde estuary. As you wander around the expansive gardens, gaze at the vineyards all around you or appreciate the idyllic setting as you relax in the swimming pool.

This home has been sensitively restored by its current owners, a family of experienced wine-makers, who have created a comfortable abode with style as well as character. Traditional furnishings feature alongside contemporary touches and you will find quality throughout with fine bed linen and excellent amenities.

Downstairs the dining room is ideal for family feasts or sit outside on the al-fresco terrace by the barbecue. A cosy lounge with a pool table is sure to delight all ages whilst a ground floor master en suite bedroom offers space as well as practicality. Climb up the magnificent stone staircase to discover five further bedrooms, including a dorm-style room for children as well as a welcoming living room.

Within a short drive you can be visiting some of the finest wine-châteaux in the world with prestigious names such as Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Latour within half an hour. The well-known wine villages of Pauillac and Margaux are also easily reached with their many wineries, alongside excellent restaurants and shops. Look out for oysters straight from the Atlantic ocean at the Saturday morning market in Pauillac.

The Médoc peninsular is also much loved for its stunning natural scenery and beautiful coast. Drive half an hour west to the forests, sand dunes and vast beaches near Montalivet or head south for surfing at Lacanau. A cycle path runs along the west coast of the peninsular alongside walking trails that weave through the forests – this is also perfect terrain for horse-riding.

Whether sampling some of the country’s finest wines or making the most of the incredible natural scenery, this alluring region appeals in so many ways.

Château Concorde is set amongst vineyards in a small wine village on the Médoc peninsular, near the Gironde estuary. The village itself has a number of wineries as well as characterful houses and a 13th century church.

Within a five-minute drive there is another small village with a food shop and wine-bar whilst you will find usual town amenities, as well as a good choice of restaurants and supermarkets, in the town of Lesparre-Médoc (11km).

The Médoc region is of course well-known for its world-famous wines – some of the most prestigious wine appellations can be found within a short drive. One of the most famous wine towns is Pauillac (23km) where you will find over one hundred wine-châteaux in the town and surrounding area from small family-run businesses to vineyards producing Premier Cru wines. Famous names near Pauillac include Château Mouton-Rothschild, Château Lafite-Rothschild and Château Latour.

Pauillac is also a pleasant town in itself with shops, excellent places to eat including a Michelin starred restaurant and a food market on a Saturday morning (look out for fresh oysters from the coast) – the Médoc also offers amazing regional cuisine.

A little further south, Margaux (45km) is also one of the most celebrated wine towns in the world. With such excellent vineyards across the Médoc peninsular, both close to home and further afield, the owners will be able to help arrange visits to vineyards and wine tastings.

Drive west and within half an hour you can be on the Atlantic coast. The 12km long sandy beach at Montalivet (30km) is stunning, backed by sand dunes and beautiful forests or head north to the popular resort of Soulac-sur-Mer (35km). Cyclists can follow parts of the cycle trail that runs down the west coast as far as Cap Ferrat. This is also a wonderful area for walkers and horse-riders with paths through the Médoc forests with coastal and country scenery.

Keen surfers and watersport enthusiasts will also love Lacanau, around an hour away and one of the most popular surfing spots on the Atlantic coast. There’s also a lake at Lacanau, ideal for summer paddling in warm water without the Atlantic waves as well as sailing and windsurfing.

Of course, you can also visit the magnificent wine city of Bordeaux, around ninety minutes by car, with its historic centre (now a UNESCO World Heritage site), great restaurants, wine-bars and architecture – a superb day for any wine-lover!

The Médoc peninsular may be well-known for it’s world famous vineyards and wine châteaux but it’s also wonderful for families due to its close proximity to the beaches of the Atlantic coast and the stunning Landes forest.

Montalivet, around half an hour away, offers 12 kilometres of wide sandy beaches backed by sand dunes and forests. Slightly further north, Soulac-sur-Mer is a lively resort with another fantastic beach or head south to the resort of Lacanau, especially popular with surfers.

Indeed, there are surfing schools dotted along the coastline alongside other watersports, especially at some of the lakes such as at Lacanau where you will find sailing or Lac d'Hourtin which offers kite-surfing. The lakes also have lovely beaches which are ideal for paddling or bathing without the Atlantic waves.

There are also many wonderful cycling trails through the forests, heading as far south as Cap Ferrat, many of which are fairly flat so perfect for families. You will also find plenty of walking and horse-riding opportunities through the Médoc forests.

And if you are heading to Pauillac with youngsters then pass by the tourist office and pick up a special map so that you can follow the treasure hunt through the wine-town with puzzles and clues along the way.

Reviews

  • Utterly gorgeous!

    Posted by Vanessa on 16/03/2020

Chateau Concorde is utterly gorgeous! The photos don't do the place justice, it's more beautiful when you see it. Surrounded by vineyards literally on all sides you are in the heart of Medoc wine country in a truly gorgeous Chateau. We had a group of 11 and the space was more than enough room, great for large groups to have meals around the beautiful table inside or sit outside in the gorgeous grounds. Florence made our stay so easy with excellent and speedy communication, as well as great local tips and recommendations. An excellent trip and we will be back! Thank you.
