With a lovely garden and mountain views towards La Rhune, yet just a 10-minute drive to the sea, Villa Magellan is all about stylish interiors in a beautiful and verdant setting.
Over three levels, this contemporary villa sleeps up to 10 guests across six bedrooms, each with their own bath or shower room. On the lower floor, four double bedrooms all open out to a long terrace. A fifth bedroom can be found on the main level whilst upstairs at the top of the house the master bedroom has its own TV, dressing room and terrace.
Whether staying with family or friends, gather together in the spacious living and dining room with stylish furnishings and striking artwork. Floor to ceiling sliding doors bring the glorious outside in with the decked terrace just a few steps away, a perfect spot for al-fresco meals and sundowners with such lovely views all around you.
The elevated position of the swimming pool means you can enjoy the wonderful scenery as you relax on one of the sunbeds or lay out a picnic on the hill by the palm trees. Yet despite this picturesque and rural setting, you are also close to the fantastic beaches of the Atlantic coast and the welcoming fishing town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, only ten minutes away by car.
Saint-Jean-de-Luz is home to fine beaches, fantastic golf courses, excellent sea-food restaurants and a lovely atmosphere in its old town. Nearby Ciboure is also full of charm, once the home of Henri Matisse, and a visit to the Sunday morning market is a must.
Then there’s Hendaye and the Spanish border to the south and magnificent Biarritz and its well-known surfing beaches to the north. Not to mention the many stunning walks along the marked coastal paths or around nearby idyllic villages and La Rhune. This part of the French Basque country certainly offers something for everyone.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa MagellanVilla Magellan enjoys a rural setting with picturesque views towards La Rhune, just a ten-minute drive from St-Jean-de-Luz and the beaches of the Atlantic coast.
The nearest village, around 5km away, is a traditional Basque village with beautiful houses, a lovely central square and church. As well as a grocery store, there is a handful of restaurants along its pretty lanes and Saturday morning is the time to visit for the bustling market.
Other wonderful villages close by include Sare (13km) and Ainhoa (20km), both classified as two of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ with gorgeous scenery all around them. This region is ideal for hikers with La Rhune and glorious Basque landscapes so close. You can also visit the summit of La Rhune via the wooden train that departs from its old-fashioned train station near Sare.
As well as scenic countryside on your doorstep, the Atlantic coast is never far away. St-Jean-de-Luz (8km) is easily reached, a great place to spend time exploring the old town before relaxing on its beach. Families will love all the summer activities such as trampolines, mini-golf, play areas and a little road train that tours you through the town.
Ciboure (8km) is also full of charm, once the home of Henri Matisse. The sheltered bay is a pleasant spot and there is a range of watersports on offer whilst the harbour is an attractive area to stroll around with its cafes and restaurants. Visit on a Sunday morning to experience the atmospheric market.
Heading north, come across some of the Atlantic coast’s brilliant beaches in and around Guéthary, Bidart and all the way to Biarritz – look out for some superb surfing spots and many surfing schools catering for all from beginners to the most experienced. La Côte des Basques is one of the most famous surfing beaches but there are many more, including the Anglet coastline, just north of Biarritz.
Biarritz (25km) is known for its glamourous reputation and is a fine place to spend the day. Wander along La Grande Plage, dine in a high-end restaurant, peruse some of the interesting shops and pick up all sorts of Basque delicacies in Les Halles covered market.
In the other direction, visit Hendaye (14km) on the Spanish border – keen walkers could even follow the wild coastal trail, La Basque Corniche, that links Ciboure to Hendaye with the most spectacular scenery.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe lovely beaches in and around Saint-Jean-de-Luz are just a short drive away. In the summer months there are lots of family-friendly activities such as mini-golf, trampolines, a little road train that takes you around the town as well as beach volleyball and surfing. For a break away from the beach, take the kids to play or have a picnic in the town’s park, Parc Ducontenia.
Keen surfers can also head further up the coast, where the surf is often more challenging, and find surfing schools dotted around near Guéthary, Bidart, Biarritz and beyond.
The adventure tree-top courses and paint-balling of Oihana Adventure Park are also close by, as well as the Wow Adventure Park where you can take part in all sorts of outdoor activities. Both centres are usually open from early April to autumn.
Young transport enthusiasts will love the old-fashioned wooden train that takes you to the summit of La Rhune from nearby the gorgeous village of Sare. At the top you are rewarded with amazing views of both the Atlantic coast and Pyrénées on a good day.
