Petit Chez Soi is situated in the heart of glitzy Biarritz with breath-taking views over the rooftops to the ocean and beach, just a few minutes walk away. An abundance of trendy shops, vibrant bars and fine restaurants are on your doorstep to quickly give you a taste of Biarritz coastal culture.

The apartment occupies the third floor of an elegant building which has been beautifully designed and restored to create a modern, comfortable living space whilst retaining its original character. White or soft coloured walls and wooden floorboards showcase its many stunning balconies, carefully chosen furnishings and colourful artwork, all there to provide aesthetic pleasure during your stay.

Light flows into the spacious living and dining area through its four sets of beautiful arched doors and Juliet balconies. Lounge on the long sofa and notice the turquoise theme of ornate chairs, cushions, designer glass and wall painting, there to remind you of your proximity to the sea. The well equipped kitchen has a wonderful view towards the sea to enjoy when you throw open the doors and relax with your morning coffee and croissant.

All three bedrooms boast similar balconies and stylish furnishings. The sizeable master bedroom has its own en-suite shower room with gorgeous walk-in shower and the bedroom two is equally roomy with a shower room which can be either locked for private use or used communally. Enjoy the sea views from the twin bedroom and the cosy extra TV room along the hallway with its sofa-bed.

When you have settled in, step out of the grand front door of your residence before strolling down to the southern edge of La Grande Plage. Once you have worked up an appetite, sample a plate of axoa stew and a glass of red wine in a local restaurant. Gastronomers will love the amazing market at the Halles de Biarritz, only a 5-minute walk away, including many wonderful Basque specialities.

Biarritz is of course a mecca for surfers and Oliver’s Travels guests can arrange surf coaching for all abilities or just equipment hire so you can head to La Plage de la Cote des Basques and ride the waves alongside surfers from across the world.

Other services that can be offered include guided tours, bike rental and scooter hire or you may wish to hire a car or even personal chauffeur so you can get out and explore some of the further wonders of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region, whether idyllic Basque villages near the majestic mountains, wilder beaches along the coast or pretty seaside villages.

You may prefer to just stay in Biarritz, close to your perfect ocean-view apartment, where you can explore, shop, dine, surf, play golf or just relax by one of the many wonderful beaches this part of the Basque coastline has to offer.

Petit Chez Soi is on the third floor of an apartment building in the heart of Biarritz. Enjoy your walk past the chocolate shop, through the square and down landscaped paths and steps to reach the road crossing at the southern end of the town’s most famous beach, La Grande Plage. The restaurants, bars, cafes and shops of Biarritz are also all within a short walk.

This elegant seaside town is on the Bay of Biscay in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region, south-west of France, near the border with Spain. The resort dates back to the mid-19th century when aristocracy built their summer residences along this part of the coast, including the well-known Hotel du Palais, built by the wife of Napoleon III and just a ten-minute walk away along the beach.

The most famous beach, La Grande Plage, is in the heart of Biarritz and just 200m from the apartment. There are other smaller beaches around the town such as La Plage de la Cote des Basques to the south (1km), which has become a favourite for surfers. Indeed, Biarritz has become a surfing mecca with enthusiasts from all over the world attracted to the 6km of Biarritz coastline and beyond. There are plenty of surfing schools for abilities and all ages. Oliver Travel’s guests can arrange surf coaching or just equipment hire during their stay.

You will find some wonderful restaurants in the Port des Pecheurs (500m), the former fishing port, where fresh seafood can be found. Food lovers, don’t miss the amazing market at the Halles de Biarritz, only a 5-minute walk away, including many wonderful Basque specialities. Some of the local specialities include the local touron (marzipan), locally cured ham as well as mussels, mushrooms and more.

It’s also a lovely atmosphere around the Port Vieux (500m) where there is a tiny sheltered beach loved by locals and the town’s main shopping street, Rue Port Vieux. Amazing Art Deco buildings around the town and especially along the beach include the nearby Casino (also home to a theatre and swimming pool) and the Aquarium (650m) which is a must for sea-lovers or families.

Another one of the town’s highlights is the incredible Rocher of the Vierge peninsular (750m), which can be visited via the Eiffel bridge that connects it to the mainland or the fascinating lighthouse (1.8km) in the northern part of the town where there are some incredible views.

For a change of scene, head to Bayonne (8km) where you can walk around the narrow streets admiring the beautiful and historic architecture or walk along the river front. Or head to the beaches to the north with wide, sandy stretches, some surrounded by grassland and forests, others backed by cliffs and some with beautiful promenades for walkers and cyclists.

Other coastal areas to visit include the picturesque town of Ciboure (17km) to the south where Matisse once lived and the lively resort of Saint-Jean-de-Luz (16km) with a great sandy beach and plenty of family-friendly activities as well as an abundance of golf courses and lovely walks along the surrounding coastline and hills.

There are also some idyllic Basque villages inland to explore such as two of France’s Plus Beaux Villages; pretty Ainhoa (28km) and Sare (26km), where you can take the old wooden train up to the summit of La Rhune, one of the most dominant peaks of the Pyrénées, where there are some restaurants with incredible views as well as hiking opportunities.

Indeed, this whole region offers an extended range of outdoor activities, such as walking, horse- riding, fishing, cycling, canoeing and many others including water-sports along the coast.

The 6km of coastline around Biarritz includes some wonderful beaches for families, not just La Grande Plage, so near your apartment. There are smaller beaches such as Plage Milady (with playground) and Cotes des Basques, which has become a favourite for surfers. Indeed, Biarritz has become a surfing mecca with enthusiasts from all over the world attracted to its 6km of coastline and beyond. There are plenty of surfing schools for beginners of all ages including children.

There are some great activities that can be arranged for Oliver’s Travel’s younger guests such as kids golfing lessons, bike rental for all ages and surfing lessons for the family. Skateboard hire and Segway tours can also be arranged for families with older children.

Combine a trip to the charming small and sheltered beach of Port Vieux with a visit to the nearby Wildlife Park.

You can take the little Biarritz road-train along the coast for a more leisurely way to see the coast with a trip lasting 30 minutes.

The Aquarium of Biarritz, (700m) houses a variety of marine creatures with a café serving pizzas and wraps for lunch.

The Lighthouse, background to your beach and ocean view, has about 200 steps – energetic walkers scaling these are rewarded with magnificent views. Spectacular views can also be found from the Eiffel Bridge at the Rocher of the Vierge peninsular. (800m)

If you want to explore further afield, head south to St Jean de Luz (16km) where you’ll find plenty of family-friendly activities such as trampoline parks, mini golf and another road-train to beautiful sandy beaches featuring playgrounds and games.

Real train lovers should head inland to Sare to catch the old wooden train up to the summit of La Rhune mountain where you are greeted with spectacular views of the Pyrénées and coast on a clear day.
