In a superb location just a short walk from one of Biarritz’ family-friendly beaches, Les Coquillages is all about relaxed holiday fun in colourful surroundings.

Indeed, this holiday home has real character – the open-plan living room on the main floor is vibrant and joyful with eclectic furnishings and artwork as well as doors leading out to a terrace with superb south-facing views. The master bedroom and bathroom take up the whole of the top floor of the house whilst three double bedrooms and a couple of shower rooms can be found downstairs on the pool level. The house also benefits from two kitchens, including one leading straight to the swimming pool terrace – ideal for summer lunches or evening feasts by the plancha-style barbecue.

Relax on the upper terrace with views out towards the mountains and ocean then wander down the spiral staircase to cool off in the swimming pool or perhaps a game of table tennis. There’s a carefree vibe outside with the swaying hammock, plenty of places to eat and drink and splashes of summer colour making this a wonderful place to spend time with family or friends.

It’s around a ten-minute stroll to the nearest sandy beach and a little further to a couple of well-known beachside restaurants which open late into the night on summer weekends. Downtown Biarritz is just 3km away where you can soak up the glitzy ambience and visit the sights or head a little further south to lovely seaside villages such as Bidart and Guéthary.

The stunning interiors of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques are also easily reached with idyllic Basque villages such as Ascain, Sare and Ainhoa close by or spend a pleasant day exploring the city of Bayonne, around twenty minutes away, with its pretty riverside setting and historic charm.

Les Coquillages is set in a residential area around 3km south of central Biarritz, with a family-friendly beach just a ten-minute walk away.

You can also walk to some fantastic beachside restaurants a little further south, around a 20-minute stroll away, or head north towards downtown Biarritz where you will find a great range of places to dine as well as shops and supermarkets, making this a very convenient location.

Central Biarritz is around 3km away but there is so much of this vibrant town to explore. Cross the bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel to reach the incredible Rocher de la Vierge, stroll along the promenade by La Grande Plage, backed by some wonderful examples of Art Deco architecture and walk as far as the lighthouse where you can enjoy superb views of the Atlantic if you climb to the very top. There are also great seafood restaurants, the atmospheric indoor food market as well as museums and an aquarium.

The local beach, just 1km away, is sandy and backed by a playground so ideal for families, whilst there is another beach a little further with a couple of cool places to eat which become beach bars during summer evenings. You are also close to the surfing hot-spot of Plage de la Côte des Basques where you can watch surfers ride the ways. Along this Basque coastline you will find a number of surfing schools that cater for all abilities.

The seaside villages of Bidart (4km) and Guéthary (7km) are also worth visiting for their relaxed atmosphere, brilliant restaurants and superb ocean views and beaches. Indeed, from Bidart you can join the 25km-long coastal path that heads south as far as Hendaye near the Spanish border, passing through delightful places such as St-Jean-de-Luz (13km) and Ciboure (14km).

Some of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ are only within a short drive such as Sare (24km) with its traditions and festivities and the pretty village of Ascain (20km) near La Nivelle river. Look out for the characterful Le Train de la Rhune which departs from a station between the two villages and takes you up to the summit of La Rhune where you will find yet more incredible vistas and walking opportunities.

This villa enjoys a great location just 1km from a sandy beach that is ideal for kids, backed by a popular playground for youngsters.

You are also a short distance from a further choice of fantastic beaches such as Plage de la Côte des Basques, especially popular with surfers, and the famous La Grande Plage where you will find summer activities for families. There’s also a little beach by Port Vieux which is ideal if the kids want a little paddle to cool off when exploring Biarritz.

The town itself also has plenty to keep younger travellers occupied – there’s a little road-train for tired legs whilst those with more energy can climb up to the top of the lighthouse at the northern end of Biarritz. You will also find museums and an aquarium as well as plenty of shops and family-friendly restaurants.

St-Jean-de-Luz is another lovely family day out with its summer seaside activities or drive inland and head up to the top of La Rhune mountain by taking a trip on the little wooden train that departs from a train station between the villages of Sare and Ascain.
