In the heart of the seaside town of Guéthary, just south of Biarritz, enjoy Basque charm alongside vibrant restaurants and lovely shops in this fantastic villa with private pool within walking distance to the beach.

With wooden shutters, flowering balconies and splashes of colour across its pretty garden, Le Litoral is a gem of a home with its own private swimming pool to cool off from the warm summer sun of south-western France. Choose whether to enjoy feasts en famille by the summer kitchen and al-fresco dining area or wander to nearby restaurants serving Basque specialities and fish straight from the ocean.

The interiors are just as great with contemporary style yet a true sense of comfort. Cool tiled or wooden floors, interesting artwork and quirky décor add to Le Litoral’s character making this more than just a holiday home. The master bedroom is a particular delight with its canopy bed and impressive en suite bathroom whilst two further doubles and a sweet bedroom with bunk-beds make this ideal for families or a small group of friends.

As well as enjoying all that the lively village of Guéthary has to offer, you can also walk down to a choice of beaches – build sandcastles as you watch surfers riding the waves in the distance. There are plenty of surfing schools along this coastline or take in the beauty from the 25km-long coastal path which passes through Guéthary and leads as far as the Spanish border with spectacular views as you walk south.

Biarritz is also easily reached, just 10km away, with its grand beaches, excellent restaurants and impressive sights. The family-friendly seaside town of St-Jean-de-Luz is even closer with great shops, a twice-weekly food market as well as fantastic golf courses. Visit idyllic Basque villages in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques such as Sare and Ascain or head over the Spanish border to San Sebastian and even Bilbao.

That said, you may prefer to soak up the relaxed vibe of your villa, swimming pool, local village and beaches – it really is a great part of the Basque coast.

In the heart of Guéthary village, only 500m from a popular surfing beach, Le Litoral enjoys an enviable location near the Basque coast, just a short drive south of Biarritz.

Step out of your front door and it’s just a short walk to Guéthary’s village amenities such as the bakery, grocery stores, cool shops and a train station, not forgetting the contemporary art museum as well. You can also walk to a number of restaurants and lively summer bars where you will find fantastic food and a relaxed vibe – this is what Guéthary is all about.

There is a choice of beaches near Guéthary, one of the most popular being Plage de Parlementia, within around a 500m walk, partly downhill, which is loved by families with perfect sand for building castles. Sometimes the ocean is a little calmer here, although you will still spot surfers riding the waves further out - there are plenty of surf schools along this coastline, even for beginners. You also have the fantastic beaches of Biarritz to the north and St-Jean-de-Luz to the south, both within a short drive.

Keen walkers can join the magnificent 25km-long coastal path which starts in the delightful Basque village of Bidart (3km to the north) and passes south through Guéthary as far as Hendaye near the Spanish border. There are also great walking opportunities further inland in the wonderful Pyrenees. Drive to nearby Sare (20km), one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, and take the little wooden train to the summit of La Rhune for a spectacular day out (the train station is just outside the village).

A visit to the glitz of Biarritz (10km) is also a must – see the sights such as the lighthouse to the north or spectacular Rocher de la Vierge, visit the indoor market full of Basque specialities, walk along the promenade by La Grande Plage and visit some of the other famous beaches such as Plage de la Côte des Basques, a surfer’s paradise.

To the south are the delightful seaside towns of St-Jean-de-Luz (7km) and Ciboure (9km), amazing golf courses and more beautiful beaches. Cross the Spanish border and pretty fishing villages such as Hondarribia (26km) are waiting to be explored or spend the day in the great cities of San Sebastian (40km) or Bilbao (140km).
