Overview

Pool Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach

This very beautiful and contemporary villa is situated just 800 metres from the beach and is guaranteed to immediately invoke a state of bonheur and relaxation. Situated on a woody hillside, it’s only 3km from the heart of Biarritz, enabling you to easily access and enjoy the many different aspects of this beautiful and elegant town.

The home is close to all amenities but within its secure gates it feels private and secluded. The beauty and modernity of its design and furnishings provide a constant visual treat as well as a very comfortable and functional place to stay. Five double bedrooms are spread over two lower floors, all with terraces, some with town views, and ingeniously connected inside and out with the other floors and the outside pool. The master bedroom is particularly stunningly designed with its artistic freestanding bath ready to immerse yourself in.

The light open plan living-dining area and kitchen are adjacent to the large decked area around the pool and have a wide covered terrace at the back. An abundance of comfortable seating and tables inside and out enables plenty of choice for dining, chatting and relaxing or for peace and quiet away from the group. The woods adjacent to the villa provide the foreground to some spectacular views with background glimpses of a shimmering sea of ever changing colours.

When you are ready to leave the beauty, peace and seclusion of your retreat, it is only a short walk or drive down the hill to Milady beach, popular with the locals for its surfing and with a promenade to stroll along. Energetic walkers can continue to walk alongside the sea to Ilbarritz beach. You may prefer to practise your swing on the renowned golf course at Ilbarritz, next to the beach, or dine in one of the famous beachside restaurants here. The City of The Ocean museum and the Equestrian Club of Biarritz are also both nearby. If you decide to leave the car at home the local shuttle in the summer will take you to the heart of Biarritz in a few minutes.

After watching the sunset over the sea you will enjoy a leisurely walk home or drive up the hill. Once inside you can relax with a well-deserved glass of wine on one of the terraces and look across the pines trees or towards the Basque coast.

La Cabane de Bonheur is just under 3km from the heart of Biarritz, in a residential area south of the town, in a hillside location. There is a bakery about a twenty-minute walk away towards the centre of Biarritz as well as a supermarket a little further for any groceries you may need. It is only a short walk or drive to the Milady beach (800m), popular with the locals for its surfing, with a promenade to stroll along and a car park. Energetic walkers can continue to walk alongside the sea to Ilbarritz beach. You may prefer to practise your swing on the renowned golf course at Ilbarritz, next to the beach.

If you want a break from the beach, the City of the Ocean Museum offers the visitor highly immersive experiences including cinematic spectaculars and is a short walk or drive from the villa, as is the Equestrian Club of Biarritz.

If you decide to leave the car at home the local shuttle bus in the summer will take you to the heart of beautiful Biarritz. The resort dates back to the mid-19th century when the aristocracy built their summer residences along this part of the coast, including the well-known Hotel du Palais, built by the wife of Napoleon III.

The most famous beach, La Grande Plage, is in the heart of Biarritz but there are other beaches around the town such as Plage de la Cote des Basques, which has become a favourite for surfers. Indeed, Biarritz has become a surfing mecca with visitors from all over the world attracted to the 6km of Biarritz coastline and beyond. There are plenty of surfing schools for abilities and all ages and Oliver Travel’s guests can arrange surf coaching or just equipment hire during their stay.

You will find some wonderful restaurants in the Port des Pecheurs, the former fishing port, where you will find fresh seafood. Food lovers, don’t miss the amazing market at the Halles de Biarritz (2.6km) including many wonderful Basque specialities. Some of the local specialities include the local touron (marzipan), locally cured ham as well as mussels, mushrooms and more.

For a change of scene, head to Bayonne (10km) where you can walk around the narrow streets admiring the beautiful and historic architecture or walk along the river front. Explore the beaches to the north with their wide, sandy stretches, some surrounded by grassland and forests, others backed by cliffs and some with beautiful promenades for walkers and cyclists.

Other coastal areas to visit include the picturesque town of Ciboure (17km) to the south where Matisse once lived and the lively resort of Saint-Jean-de-Luz with a great sandy beach and plenty of family-friendly activities as well as an abundance of golf courses and lovely walks along the surrounding coastline and hills.

There are also some idyllic Basque villages inland to explore such as two of France’s Plus Beaux Villages; pretty Ainhoa (25km) and Sare (24km), where you can take the old wooden train up to the summit of La Rhune, one of the most dominant peaks of the Pyrénées, where there are some restaurants with incredible views as well as hiking opportunities.

Indeed, this whole region offers an extended range of outdoor activities, such as walking, horse-back riding, fishing, cycling, canoeing and many others including water-sports along the coast.

Indeed, Biarritz has become a surfing mecca with surfers from all over the world being attracted to the Basque coastline and beyond and there are plenty of surfing schools for beginners of all ages including children.

If you want a break from the beach, the City of the Ocean Museum offers the visitor highly immersive experiences including cinematic spectaculars and is a short walk or drive from the villa, as is the Equestrian Club of Biarritz. The Aquarium in central Biarritz is also a must for sea-lovers or families.

In the heart of Biarritz you can take the little road-train along the coast for a more leisurely way to see the coast with a trip lasting 30 minutes.

The more energetic can head to the Lighthouse at the northern end of Biarritz and climb the 200 or so steps to be rewarded with magnificent views or head to the incredile Rocher of the Vierge peninsular with its Eiffel bridge for more wonderful views.

If you want to explore further afield, head south to St Jean de Luz where you’ll find plenty of family-friendly activities such as trampoline parks, mini golf and another road-train to beautiful sandy beaches featuring playgrounds and games.
