Villa Zaku is located south of Split along Croatia's picturesque Dalmatian coastline just outside the town of Omis. This spacious villa enjoys magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and the mountains beyond from its large private pool terrace. Villa Zaku is set out over multiple floors with three good-size bedrooms accommodating eight guests in comfort.

Entering the villa from the pool, you arrive in the living room on the ground floor. With lovely terracotta-coloured tiles bringing warmth to the room and high cathredral-like ceilings, there is a bright and homely feel to the space that makes it a delight to retreat to. There are two seating areas, one main area with large comfortable sofas focused around a central flat-screen television, and another snug area with a smaller sofa tucked into the corner enclosed by dual-aspect windows that beautifully frame the greenery outside.

Stepping down to the lower floor and you are welcomed into the kitchen and dining room. With doors out the lawned garden and barbecue area, this room has a lovely open feel. The dining area sits in the centre of the space, seating eight guests comfortably, while kitchen cabinets wrap around the wall to the far side. The country-style kitchen is well equipped and has everything you could need to cook up a lovely homecooked meal for your friends and family. There is also a bathroom on this floor equipped with a washing machine, so any messy holiday mishaps can easily be taken care of.

The bedrooms at Villa Zaku are located on the top two floors. The first floor bedrooms are both home to sumptuous double beds and provide their own en-suite bathrooms for added privacy. All of the bedrooms at the villa are designed with clean white walls and rich wooden floors, with splashes of colour added through the soft furnishings. The final bedroom on the second floor is home to two single beds and a double bed and also offers an en-suite bathroom, so guests here don't need to travel far to get ready for the day. The double bed is set into the wall, creating its own private nook that is great fun!

Outside is really where Villa Zaku comes into its own. The 40m2 swimming pool is surrounded by a large private terrace lined with sun loungers and even boasts a hydro-massage system, so you can truly relax as you take a refreshing dip in the pool. A pool house sits adjacent to the terrace and is home to a sauna and shower room, adding to the spa-like facilities on offer at Villa Zaku. The pool terrace is partially covered by a sail-like shade where an outdoor dining area sits underneath, seating six guests - this is a great spot to retreat to during the heat of the day.

Nearer the villa, there is a shaded lawned area boasting another outdoor dining area to the front and an outdoor lounge area with an enormous stone-built barbecue and a further lawned garden to the rear. At Villa Zaku, you are certainly encouraged to make the most of the Croatian sunshine and embrace outdoor living!

Villa Zaku is located in the small village of Naklice on the outskirts of Omis, less than an hour's drive south from the major city of Split.

Omis sits at the mouth of the Cetina River, and its well-known canyon is a hive of activity for adventure enthusiasts. Offering canyoning, ziplining, trekking, rafting, paragliding and more, the Cetina Canyon is a hotspot for adrenaline-pumping activities. If you are looking for a calmer way to spend your holiday, then the long, sandy beach near the centre of Omis is the perfect place. A rarity in Croatia with its sandy shores, this beach is the perfect spot for families, offering safe sea, sandy banks and even beach volleyball to keep the whole family entertained.

Omis is known for its old fortresses and churches, with the 13th century Franciscan monastery and Mirabella fortress being among the notable sights. A visit to the Starigrad Fortress requires a little more commitment as the climb up takes around an hour, but the views from the top definitely make the effort worthwhile. The town also has a well-tracked pirate history which has inspired a number of tourist activities, including pirate-themed restaurants and Pirate tours that are particularly popular with families.

Region

The Dalmatian coast is a veritable treasure trove of stunning landscapes and historic towns, and Omis, situated halfway between the famous port city of Split and the energetic town of Maksarka, is no exception. With its rich history, scenic backdrop, and a plethora of attractions, Omis stands out as a unique and captivating destination for those seeking to explore the charm of Croatia. The town's history is deeply intertwined with its dramatic geographical setting, which is dominated by the imposing Cetina River Canyon and the Mosor Mountain Range.

The old town of Omis, with its narrow cobblestone streets and stone houses, is a place where history and culture converge. It’s a charming place to explore on foot and soak up the local way of life. There are a number of historic churches that you’ll come across while exploring - the Church of St. Michael, the Church of St. Peter, and the Church of St. Rocco, which all showcase intricate architectural details and a sense of reverence. The old town is also home to an abundance of restaurants, cafes, and local shops, it’s an excellent spot to savour authentic Croatian dishes and find unique souvenirs.

One of the most prominent historical attractions in the town is the Mirabella Fortress, often called Peovica. Perched high on a rocky outcrop, this fortress was built during the 13th century and was used as a hideout by the notorious Omis pirates who terrorised the Adriatic Sea. Today, visitors can climb up the steep path to the fortress and enjoy panoramic views of the town, the coast, and the surrounding landscapes.

Omis boasts a pristine stretch of coastline with a variety of beaches, each catering to different tastes. One of the most popular is the sandy beach at the mouth of the Cetina River, offering calm waters perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Adventurous spirits may prefer the pebbly beach of Brzet, known for its perfect conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Just a short drive from Omis, there's the small village of Stanici, which is renowned for its unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear waters. It's a serene place to relax and escape the crowds often found in more touristy locations.

The Cetina River is a defining feature of Omis, and one of the most exhilarating activities here is to take a rafting excursion along its emerald waters. The river cuts through the impressive Cetina Canyon, creating a thrilling white-water rafting experience that appeals to adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. The journey offers panoramic views of the rugged cliffs, lush forests, and the charming villages that dot the landscape.

The nearby Biokovo Nature Park is an outstanding natural attraction. The Biokovo Mountain Range, part of the Dinaric Alps, offers incredible hiking opportunities, with well-marked trails leading to panoramic viewpoints where you can marvel at the Adriatic Sea and the islands scattered along the coast. The juxtaposition of the rugged mountain terrain and the azure waters is simply stunning and will leave a lasting impression.

The history, natural beauty, and cultural vitality of Omis combine to create a destination that is rich in character and charm. Whether you're seeking adventure on the Cetina River, exploring the medieval fortresses, or simply savouring the local cuisine, Omis has something to offer every traveller who ventures to this utterly enchanting corner of the Dalmatian coast.

  • Fantastic Outside Space

    on 12/08/2019

We have loved our first visit to Croatia and loved staying at Villa Zaku. Mirjana was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We were able to go straight to the villa as had quite an early flight from the UK. We received an amazing welcome pack of local produce and some fantastic wine. The villa was very clean and well equipped. The outside space was fantastic and we enjoyed breakfast every morning on the stone table under the lovely trees. The pool area was fantastic with plenty of sun loungers and was kept very clean. Mirjana was helpful with what we could do and see in the area and as a result we had two AMAZING meals in the restaurant just down the road - and an AMAZING boat trip and our daughter enjoyed the zip wires in the mountains! So all in all, an amazing time and a fantastic villa to relax in. We will definitely be back. Thank you.
