Tucked away in the beautiful rural landscape of Stranići, less than ten minutes from the lively town of Poreč, Villa Polana is a dazzlingly beautiful villa for up to ten guests, just 5km from the fabulous coast of Croatia!
Built in just 2003 and refurbished in 2012, this is a modern villa which caters to every need of the contemporary holiday-maker! A Jacuzzi, fitness suite and entertainment for all ages, including a pool table and children’s play area, are just some of the fabulous provisions of this home.
There are two entirely separate living areas, as well as a games room, so everybody can enjoy doing their own thing in their own space! With a pool table inside and a football set outside, you can certainly get a little competition going, fun for kids and big kids alike!
The main living area is on the ground floor and features a sofa in front of the TV, a couple of armchairs and a large dining table by the traditional fireplace. The kitchen is vast, with delightful pink fittings and all the latest mod cons.
There are four marvellous double bedrooms, one on the first floor alongside the games room and living room, and three more on the second floor — two of which including fold-out beds, ideal for those travelling with young children.
All four rooms are incredibly stylish and sophisticated, with ornate bedframes, wall-mounted TVs and air conditioning throughout. Three of the places have access to the sublime balconies, with incredible views and casual seating areas. There are four bathrooms, two ensuites and two family bathrooms, three of which have fabulous showers and one which has a bathtub with hydro-massage jets!
In the fabulous, expansive garden you will find a huge, heated pool for all the group to gather in and around, on the many sun-loungers, for fun, games, relaxation and of course, soaking up the dazzling sunshine!
Alongside the pool is a large Jacuzzi, equally sun-kissed and ideal for those early evening cocktails – or perhaps even a coffee in the fresh morning sun? Holiday’s a time to indulge, after all! For the children, there’s an excellent playhouse with a seesaw, swing and slide – so the kids can have as much fun as you!
The Slovenian border is around 40 minutes away, and the Italian border under an hour – so why not check out a couple of other countries while you’re here? Also under an hour away is Učka Nature Park, a sprawling protected area with hiking routes leading to canyons, waterfalls and historic sites, putting unspoilt nature a stone’s throw away.
One-third of the Istrian territory is forested, and the rest is carpeted with vineyards, olive trees, pastures and orchards, with ancient walled cities perched atop hills in the mountainous landscape, so you need merely stroll out of your front door to find the richness of Istria.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa PolanaJust 10 minutes from Poreč, a vibrant town of culture, tourism, sport and entertainment, with one of the most important Western Byzantine churches outside Italy, Villa Polana is ideally placed to enjoy all the best bits of Istria. Poreč is also the party hub of the peninsula, showing how diverse this region is! About 20 minutes north is the town of Novigrad, small and quaint with a beautiful Marina.
A charming heart-shaped peninsula in the north-west of Croatia, Istria is warm, welcoming and perfectly-sized – you can drive the length in around an hour, putting everything within easy reach!
From breath-taking scenery, rich history and a world-famous culinary scene – you will find it all in Istria! As a former part of the Venetian Republic, this region has seen many rulers from the Romans, Byzantines and Austro-Hungarians to the Italians and Yugoslavians. Now, a myriad of enchanting towns and villages, rich in history and culture, are nestled among the undulating countryside.
Active holiday-makers will be delighted with the offerings: from windsurfing in Medulin to scuba diving in the Brijuni National park and rock climbing, hang-gliding and walking in Buzet along the 15km ‘seven waterfalls’ walk, Istria has it all.
Both along the dramatic coastal paths and in the mountains inland, you will find an abundance of natural paths for cycling (including the scenic Parenzana route over an old railway line from Viznada to the Slovenian border) and rugged off-road hiking trails. Pick up a trail-map from any of the Tourist Offices, for loads of well-marked routes around the coast and in the Cape Kamenjak.
Much like its neighbouring Italy, Istria is a gastronome’s paradise, home to world-class cuisine and endless rows of vineyards. Be sure to try the local wines, which are often sweet and fruity, using a wide variety of grapes including white Malvasia, red Terrano and Moscato. Istria is especially famous for its truffles, which you will find served with any dish and sauce! Truffle flavoured olive oil is a typical product of the region, and indeed, you will hardly find a village which does not have its own Olive oil ‘supermarket’!
Unlike the rest of Croatia, Istrian food tends to be light and heavily influenced by its Italian neighbours. Generally, pasta, gnocchi, risotto and polenta accompany each meal, while the coastal areas specialise in a fantastic array of seafood, including scampi, squid and sole and inland it is more common to find prosciutto, or ‘pršut’, and sausages.
Both Rijeka and Pula have international airports within a short drive of the villa, while Pula is the main hub for those getting ferries, although there is a daily ferry between Poreč and Venice.

Region
This heart-shaped peninsula was the birthplace of modern Croatian tourism, and it’s easy to see why. Its history has bestowed it with Italian sophistication, most obviously seen in pastel-painted coastal towns, like romantic Rovinj. But, tear yourself away from the Istrian coast, through the vineyards, olive groves, and dense forests, and you will discover brilliantly preserved medieval towns and villages, where cobbled streets reveal quaint galleries, sweet squares and sea-views.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Polana is the ideal home for your family holiday. With a fabulous array of onsite facilities and so much to explore nearby you can guarantee making memories to treasure as well as a little peace and quiet while the kids get stuck in!
In the heart-shaped bubble of Istria, you will find many activities specifically designed for families, including the two sensational water parks of Aquapark Istralandia near Novigrad and Aquapark Aquacolors in Poreč.
There is also the Dino Park just outside the town of Funtana where the kids can enjoy seeing life-size dinosaurs in the wilderness, an amusement park and even a dino shooting range!
On the theme of Dinosaurs, just a short drive from Pula, on the very southern tip of Istria, is the Kamenjak National Park where you can follow the ‘Dinosaur Path’ to discover dinosaur footprints and admire stunning views over the bay.
All along the coastline you will find opportunities to rent boats, pedalos and snorkelling equipment (or even scuba diving if you’re feeling up to it!) to enjoy the pristine beaches and bays, while inland among the deep green, rolling mountains there are some of the most beautiful cycling and hiking trails in Europe.
