What Oliver loves…
- Villa Fala is truly nestled in the most beautiful, peaceful surroundings, among the vibrant forests and fields of the countryside, with no civilisation in sight!
- The fusion of modern facilities with a more traditional beauty adds a classical touch to an otherwise thoroughly contemporary home – dive in the sauna for a little cleansing to start your day right!
- Elegant and cosy, the terrace is the idyllic spot by day and night, when the excellent lighting adds a sense of glamour!
- The terrace on the first floor is the ideal spot to enjoy a peaceful cuppa in the morning or a glass of the local wine by the breath-taking sunsets
Tucked away in the idyllic countryside, Villa Fala enjoys sublime vies over the dense green of the flourishing forests of the Istrian interior.
Built in just 2009, this is a miraculously modern villa crafted in a traditional style. The fusion of rustic features, including beautiful wooden fittings and beams overhead, with contemporary comforts, is delightful.
On the ground floor, you will even find a sauna! And at the same time will feel as though you have stepped back a hundred years, with exposed stone interior walls, wooden flooring and vintage furniture. The living room is a majestic representation of this, with an old chandelier, a brick fireplace and an earthy colour palette.
The kitchen is similarly stunning, with cream fittings set against rustic tiles with granite worktops. There’s plenty of space thanks to the central island which doubles up as a breakfast bar for casual mornings. The dining area is spacious, set in an open plan style with the living room, with two large double door entrances to the garden!
There are three beautiful bedrooms, one on the ground floor and two on the first which share access to the charming first-floor balcony. There are two doubles and a twin, and all three have ornate wire bedframes, bright interiors and plenty of space.
Each has direct access to the garden, be it the terrace or balcony, so hopefully, these exquisite views will get you out of bed each morning! There is a bathroom with a rain shower on the ground floor and one with a bathtub on the first.
Out in the garden is the magical pool and its accompanying terrace. Sun-lit by day and perhaps even more elegant and inviting by moonlight, as the tasteful lighting sparks up a sense of mystery and opportunity – you can enjoy this delightful area whatever time of day.
Sun loungers around the pool and on the lawn offer the perfect spot to soak up a little Istrian sunshine, while the alfresco dining area and barbeque ensure you can make the most of the mild climate.
Listen only to the rustle of leaves and the birdsong thanks to the delightfully tranquil location. The nearby town of Višnjan is known for its fine wines, honey and olive oil, be sure to try all three!
Just 45 minutes away from Učka Nature Park, a sprawling protected area with hiking routes leading to canyons, waterfalls and historic sites, you’ll find an unspoilt nature a stone’s throw away.
One-Third of the Istrian territory is forested, and the rest is carpeted with vineyards, olive trees, pastures and orchards, with ancient walled cities perched atop hills in the mountainous landscape, so you need merely stroll out of your front door to find the richness of Istria.

Just 20 minutes away is Poreč, a town of culture, tourism, sport and entertainment which has one of the most important Western Byzantine churches outside Italy, and yet is also the party hub of the peninsula! Showing just how diverse this region is!
A charming heart-shaped peninsula in the north-west of Croatia, Istria is warm, welcoming and perfectly-sized – you can drive the length in around an hour, putting everything within easy reach!
From breath-taking scenery, rich history and a world-famous culinary scene – you will find it all in Istria! As a former part of the Venetian Republic, this region has seen many rulers from the Romans, Byzantines and Austro-Hungarians to the Italians and Yugoslavians. Now, a myriad of enchanting towns and villages, rich in history and culture, are nestled among the undulating countryside.
Active holiday-makers will be delighted with the offerings: from windsurfing in Medulin to scuba diving in the Brijuni National park and rock climbing, hang-gliding and walking in Buzet along the 15km ‘seven waterfalls’ walk, Istria has it all.
Both along the dramatic coastal paths and in the mountains inland, you will find an abundance of natural paths for cycling (including the scenic Parenzana route over an old railway line from Viznada to the Slovenian border) and rugged off-road hiking trails. Pick up a trail-map from any of the Tourist Offices, for loads of well-marked routes around the coast and in the Cape Kamenjak.
Much like its neighbouring Italy, Istria is a gastronome’s paradise, home to world-class cuisine and endless rows of vineyards. Be sure to try the local wines, which are often sweet and fruity, using a wide variety of grapes including white Malvasia, red Terrano and Moscato.
Istria is especially famous for its truffles, which you will find served with any dish and sauce! Truffle flavoured olive oil is a typical product of the region, and indeed, you will hardly find a village which does not have its own Olive oil ‘supermarket’!
Unlike the rest of Croatia, Istrian food tends to be light and heavily influenced by its Italian neighbours. Generally, pasta, gnocchi, risotto and polenta accompany each meal, while the coastal areas specialise in a fantastic array of seafood, including scampi, squid and sole and inland it is more common to find prosciutto, or ‘pršut’, and sausages.
Both Rijeka and Pula have international airports within a short drive of the villa, while Pula is the central hub for those getting ferries, although there is a daily ferry between Poreč and Venice.

This heart-shaped peninsula was the birthplace of modern Croatian tourism, and it’s easy to see why. Its history has bestowed it with Italian sophistication, most obviously seen in pastel-painted coastal towns, like romantic Rovinj. But, tear yourself away from the Istrian coast, through the vineyards, olive groves, and dense forests, and you will discover brilliantly preserved medieval towns and villages, where cobbled streets reveal quaint galleries, sweet squares and sea-views.
Villa Fala is the ideal home for your family holiday. With a fabulous array of onsite facilities and so much to explore nearby you can guarantee making memories to treasure as well as a little peace and quiet while the kids get stuck in!
In the heart-shaped bubble of Istria, you will find many activities specifically designed for families, including the two sensational water parks of Aquapark Istralandia near Novigrad and Aquapark Aquacolors in Poreč.
There is also the Dino Park just outside the town of Funtana where the kids can enjoy seeing life-size dinosaurs in the wilderness, an amusement park and even a dino shooting range!
On the theme of Dinosaurs, just a short drive from Pula, on the very southern tip of Istria, is the Kamenjak National Park where you can follow the ‘Dinosaur Path’ to discover dinosaur footprints and admire stunning views over the bay.
All along the coastline you will find opportunities to rent boats, pedalos and snorkelling equipment (or even scuba diving if you’re feeling up to it!) to enjoy the pristine beaches and bays, while inland among the deep green, rolling mountains there are some of the most beautiful cycling and hiking trails in Europe.
