Location
About the surrounding area of Villa LumbardaVilla Lumbarda is located in the countryside surrounding the village of Lumbarda, which lies on the most eastern point of the Croatian island of Korcula.
Surrounded by sandy vineyards which produce the famous Grk white wine, Lumbarda is a small fishing village with about 1200 inhabitants. The locals are primarily wine-makers and fishermen, but there’s also a strong tourist tradition with excursions to nearby islands, such as Lastovo and Mljet.
As well as excursions around the Korcula archipelago, there are various activities you can participate in. Whether you’re a watersports junkie who loves to paddleboard, windsurf, sea kayak or sail, or a fan of nature and hiking, you’re sure to find something to suit. Located right on the tip of the island, Lumbarda offers some beautiful coastal walks that aren’t too hilly, so perfect for a leisurely stroll – especially lovely at sunrise or sunset. And if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, you can hire bikes for the whole family and cycle to Raznjic, Glogova or Lumbvarajsko Racisce.
When trying out the plentiful restaurants, beach bars and cafes along the seafront in Lumbarda, be sure to try some of the delicious local wines. And if you’re a real wine buff, you can pre-book a wine tasting session at one of the nearby vineyards – the reception at Villa Lumbarda will be happy to help you make any reservations.
7km away via a pretty road through olive groves and pine tree woods lies Korcula’s main town: Korcula. It’s well worth a drive down to visit the old walled city, with its herringbone streets and historic sites. With a strong Catholic tradition, you’ll find the Cathedral of St. Mark and Franciscan Monastery, as well as Venetian palaces and the city’s fortifications.
The closest Croatian airport to Villa Lumbarda is Split, which is 200km away. However, you can also fly into Mostar International Airport in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is slightly closer and about 100km away. Whichever airport you fly into, bear in mind that you’ll have to take a ferry over to Korcula island.

Region
Korčula (pronounced kor-chu-la) is a beautiful island nestled in the tranquil blue waters of the Adriatic Sea, known for its pristine beaches, rich history, and impressive architecture. Located in the southern region of Croatia, just off the Dalmatian Coast, this enchanting island offers a blend of culture, nature, and a laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle that has continued to entice travellers from
around the world for centuries.
The main town on the island, Korčula Town, is a well-preserved medieval marvel, complete with cobblestone streets laid out in a unique fishbone structure that has to be seen. Just like a mini Dubrovnik, the narrow streets dotted with terracotta-tiled houses are perfect to explore on foot. The town is home to beautiful churches and palaces, including the St. Mark's Cathedral. A stunning example of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, the cathedral's façade is adorned with intricate sculptures and a magnificent rose window, showcasing the island's historical and artistic significance.
Korčula has a well-earned reputation for being the wine island, and while there’s local wines to be found across Croatia, Korčula has some outstanding varieties that are hard to find anywhere else. A wine tour is a fantastic way to visit the vineyards, and if you’re feeling particularly active then we recommend trying it on two wheels! A cycling wine tour which is a wonderful way to see the island’s landscape.
If you’re an adventure seeker, Korčula offers numerous outdoor activities. As mentioned, the island's diverse landscape is perfect for cycling, along with well-marked trails that take you through lush forests, rolling hills, and charming villages, which are great for a hike. Water sports enthusiasts can try their hand at kayaking the numerous sheltered bays, a spot of sailing in the crystal-clear
waters of the Adriatic. Additionally, the island's underwater world is a paradise for divers and snorkelers, with vibrant marine life and shipwrecks waiting to be explored.
For some traditional entertainment, Korčula is the best place in Croatia to catch a performance of the Moreška sword dance. A captivating display of choreographed battle scenes, this dance has been a part of the island's cultural heritage for centuries and continues to be performed during the summer months, providing an authentic experience for tourists. A seat in the front row is not for the faint-hearted!
Korčula's strategic position in the Adriatic makes it an ideal starting point for exploring other Croatian islands. A short ferry ride can take you to neighbouring islands such as Hvar, Brac, and Mljet, each with a unique charm. An island-hopping adventure allows you to witness the diversity of the Dalmatian archipelago.
Korčula is easily accessible by ferry from the Croatian mainland, and with its small size and well maintained infrastructure, getting around the island is a breeze.
Korčula is a mesmerising destination that captures the essence of the Mediterranean. Whether you're drawn to the historical, cultural, or natural aspects of the island, a trip to Korčula is sure to leave a lasting impression and unforgettable memories.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Lumbarda is a family-friendly property where children are welcome. The two-apartment setup of the villa makes it the ideal location for two families holidaying together, for a little extra privacy as well as plenty of communal space to spend time all together.
The spacious bedrooms can easily be set up as family rooms, and cots can be provided upon request for any little ones who are coming on holiday with you. The open plan layout of the kitchen and living area is also great, as you can keep an eye on the kids playing while you cook up a feast.
Got yourself some water babies? Within a two-km radius of the villa, there are five beaches to explore: Lumbarda Beach, Tatinja Bay Beach, Bilin Zal Beach, Vela Przina Beach and Planjak Beach. For the super sandcastle building, we recommend Vela Przina Beach – the largest sandy beach on the island. The waters are also nice and shallow – perfect for little ones to paddle about in (with adult supervision, of course!).
Korcula island also offers a variety of child-friendly activities:
l Marco Polo Museum
Marco Polo was a famous Venetian traveller, but back in 1254, when he was born, Korcula was a part of the Venetian Republic. Many historians believe he was actually from Korcula. At the museum, you can learn all about Marco Polo’s exotic journeys to the Orient through a series of recreated scenes. Kids will love taking photos with the different characters and can also buy souvenirs at the Marco Polo gift shop.
-Fish & Fun Boat Trip
On a boat trip around the archipelago, kids can try their hand at some fishing techniques, go swimming off the boat and spot fish underwater with snorkelling gear. This family-friendly excursion also includes a tasty lunch or dinner. What could be better? Marco runs 3 different tour types with varying durations to suit your schedule and budget requirements.
-Watersports
In Lumbarda village and on the beaches, you’ll find lots of locally run rentals with watersports equipment. Kids can have a go at paddle boarding, sea kayaking and snorkelling. And if they're feeling even more adventurous, they can try their hand at windsurfing or take scuba lessons at the scuba school.
