There’s room for up to eight guests at Villa Ottilie. Just around the corner from the enticing outdoor pool, you have a covered terrace area with dining table and chairs, which is the ideal place to enjoy breakfast or dinner together. A barbecue and sun loungers are available to you too, along with an outdoor shower.

Step inside from the dining terrace and you have a modern living area equipped with a large sofa and wall-mounted widescreen TV. There’s a stylish indoor dining area too, alongside the kitchen which has an electric oven, fridge, dishwasher, coffee machine and all the other essentials.

On the next floor up, you have a double and a twin bedroom, while the master bedroom can be found on the floor above. This comfortable room comes with a private bathroom, walk-in wardrobe and an additional sofa-bed to accommodate two guests if required.  Balcony areas on each of these floors extend your space even further and enjoy fine views.

There’s plenty to enjoy around the beautiful island of Brač – you could try a spot of surfing at its famed Zlatni Rat beach, around 30 minutes down the coast, or climb its highest peak, Vidova Gora. Sumartin itself is a pretty little village with a handful of restaurants and cafés. It also offers a ferry connection to Makarska on the mainland – a great day trip.

One of the largest islands in the Adriatic, Brač is a Croatian highlight not to miss. Accessible via a direct ferry connection from Split or Makarska, this beautiful island is famed for producing the white stone used to construct that city’s best-known landmark, Diocletian’s Palace.

A superb place to enjoy the great outdoors, Brač’s beaches, vineyards and mountains offer lots of diverse landscapes. You’ll find the best views on the island at Vidova Gora, north of Bol on Brač’s southern coast. This is the highest peak on all the Adriatic islands, at a towering 778m, and offers a wonderful overview of the area, with views out to the neighbouring isle of Hvar.

One of Croatia’s most popular destinations, Bol, lies on the southern coast of the island. Its popularity ensures lots of good restaurants and amenities, although prices tend to be higher than elsewhere on the island. The biggest draw in the area is the famously beautiful Zlatni Rat beach, which is notable for the way it extends into the Adriatic Sea. A pretty promenade takes you from the centre of Bol to this idyllic spot.

The largest town on Brač is Supetar on the northern coast. The attractive harbour and Old Town area are well worth a visit, and the town has yet more lovely beaches too. Supetar’s cultural hub is the National Library which includes the Ivan Rendić Gallery. Rendić was born in the area and this gallery features several of his sculptures and sketches. This is also the place to look out for other cultural events in Supetar.

Brač is a fine place to eat, and locals are proud of its specialties. Seafood and lamb from Brač, as well as its wine, are worth seeking out. The island also has its own cake, hrapoćuša, which is quite a feast in itself, layering almond sponge with walnut meringue.

The island is easily accessible from the mainland and other islands. Excursions you could take include a boat trip to neighbouring Šolta, Visit Maslinica for beautiful pine woods and secluded beaches. Back in Split there is plenty to keep you busy. As well as the huge Diocletian’s Palace complex, which houses several other notable attractions, streets and squares within its walls, check out the Riva waterfront and verdant Marjan Forest Park. Cultural gems such as the Meštrović Gallery and the Split Gallery of Fine Arts are good for a break from the sun.

Brač is ideal for kids, with its numerous excellent beaches. Zlatni Rat is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, and stretches out over 600m into the sea. From here, you can take a wonderful wander into the town of Bol, with its inflatable water park and plenty of cafés.

To the west of the town, the Cave of the Dragon is a sight worth seeing. Inside, there are various carvings and symbols which are believed to have been created by a 15th-century friar. Make sure you book a tour in advance to view them.

Elsewhere on the island, nature lovers may like to visit Sutivan. There’s a nice nature park there, incorporating botanic gardens and a small zoo. The park also has playgrounds and lots of activities for younger children to get involved in. Another pleasant place for a day out is Brač’s biggest town, Supetar. It’s a good place for dining out, chilling down by the harbour or doing a spot of shopping. Kids who are into their history might enjoy the Cathedral of the Annunciation, with its collection of art treasures and interesting artefacts.

About 15 minutes’ drive from Supetar, there’s another educational attraction, in the form of the Olive Oil Museum in Škrip. The children can learn all about the production of olive oil on the island, and the restaurant serves up a delicious lunch too. To see the natural beauty of the region at its best, you could take a boat trip to nearby Šolta island or to the impressive Blue Cave, or blue sea grotto. This spectacular sight is one to take your camera for.

If you venture back to the Croatian mainland, Split is an easily accessible destination. Even better, it’s great for families. As well as the vast Diocletian’s Palace, there’s Znjan Beach and the pretty Marjan Hill for a little greenery and magnificent views. Look out for the fun museum Froggyland and a rockstar chocolate store too, with creative treats they won’t find anywhere else. Just down the coast, you won’t want to miss Omiš if getting active is their thing. A mecca for water sport lovers, there are all sorts of adventures to try, including a zip-line crossing the mighty Cetina Canyon.
