Villa Nedy enjoys a fabulous rural position above the tranquil village of Gata and Omis. You will enjoy complete privacy. Within minutes you can be in Gata and within 15 minutes or so you can arrive at a sandy and pebble beach, the magnificent Cetina River and the delightful historical town of Omis. Gata offers a completely unspoiled setting with a small mini market.

Omis is located 25km south of Split on Croatia’s gorgeous Dalmation coast. It was a famous pirate town in the middle ages. The town had excellent seamen who navigated the Adriatic sea keeping the town wealthy and, in the late 12th century, fortified walls were built to protect it from invaders. The Omis Riviera scenery is incredibly dramatic with sharp, jagged mountains and gorges all around and dazzling turquoise waters. Omis is brimming with ancient buildings and churches. Visitors can enjoy the 13th century Fortress Mirabella and 15th century Fortress Starigrad, otherwise known as Fortica Fortress, silent reminders of the power and might of the infamous Omis pirates. St Michael’s Square is full of cafes, bars and restaurants. The town enjoys a fabulous reputation for its gastronomy.

The incredible Cetina River offers intoxicating, action-packed adventure. The calcareous canyon is the ideal place for canyoning with the cliff face reaching up to 180 metres and a maze of tunnels, waterfalls and lakes. Extreme canyoning with experienced instructors and professional alpine gear involves descending down the Gubavica Waterfall. Thrill seekers also enjoy the incredible zipline that crosses the canyon 150 metres off the ground. For something more sedate, you can paddle down the pretty river in canoes or kayaks enjoying the breathtaking natural scenery and perhaps a picnic by the side of the river. Just north of the village of Kucice, you can ride in giant inflatable donuts and descend down the small river rapids. Starting at Pensici and finishing at Radmanove Mlinice, you can have a day to remember family white water rafting. You can also soar high above the river and town from Imber on a paragliding trip.

Nature lovers will also want to enjoy the mountain treks on the majestic Mosor, Dinara and Biokovo Mountains. What fabulous views will you experience there!

Many visitors enjoy taking a boat trip to visit one of the islands off the mainland. Brac is home to the very famous Zlatni Rat Beach that adorns many Croatia posters. The island is blessed with stunning scenery and is famous for its very attractive white stone as well as the dreamy beach. You will discover the island’s delicious  ‘buhavica’ olive oil, local cheeses, wine and honey. The Stina Winery on the waterfront at Bol is a delight where you can try wonderful wines including their delicious Prosec, a little like Australian muscat.

If you visit Split, you will be full of admiration of its incredible architecture, fantastic shopping and delicious food. The Diocletian’s Palace was built in the 4th century. The bell tower of 7th century Saint Domnius Cathedral enjoys a fantastic view of the town. The elegant Riva is the town’s pedestrian walkway, lined with chic restaurants, bars and palm trees.

Region

The Dalmatian coast is a veritable treasure trove of stunning landscapes and historic towns, and Omis, situated halfway between the famous port city of Split and the energetic town of Maksarka, is no exception. With its rich history, scenic backdrop, and a plethora of attractions, Omis stands out as a unique and captivating destination for those seeking to explore the charm of Croatia. The town's history is deeply intertwined with its dramatic geographical setting, which is dominated by the imposing Cetina River Canyon and the Mosor Mountain Range.

The old town of Omis, with its narrow cobblestone streets and stone houses, is a place where history and culture converge. It’s a charming place to explore on foot and soak up the local way of life. There are a number of historic churches that you’ll come across while exploring - the Church of St. Michael, the Church of St. Peter, and the Church of St. Rocco, which all showcase intricate architectural details and a sense of reverence. The old town is also home to an abundance of restaurants, cafes, and local shops, it’s an excellent spot to savour authentic Croatian dishes and find unique souvenirs.

One of the most prominent historical attractions in the town is the Mirabella Fortress, often called Peovica. Perched high on a rocky outcrop, this fortress was built during the 13th century and was used as a hideout by the notorious Omis pirates who terrorised the Adriatic Sea. Today, visitors can climb up the steep path to the fortress and enjoy panoramic views of the town, the coast, and the surrounding landscapes.

Omis boasts a pristine stretch of coastline with a variety of beaches, each catering to different tastes. One of the most popular is the sandy beach at the mouth of the Cetina River, offering calm waters perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Adventurous spirits may prefer the pebbly beach of Brzet, known for its perfect conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Just a short drive from Omis, there's the small village of Stanici, which is renowned for its unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear waters. It's a serene place to relax and escape the crowds often found in more touristy locations.

The Cetina River is a defining feature of Omis, and one of the most exhilarating activities here is to take a rafting excursion along its emerald waters. The river cuts through the impressive Cetina Canyon, creating a thrilling white-water rafting experience that appeals to adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. The journey offers panoramic views of the rugged cliffs, lush forests, and the charming villages that dot the landscape.

The nearby Biokovo Nature Park is an outstanding natural attraction. The Biokovo Mountain Range, part of the Dinaric Alps, offers incredible hiking opportunities, with well-marked trails leading to panoramic viewpoints where you can marvel at the Adriatic Sea and the islands scattered along the coast. The juxtaposition of the rugged mountain terrain and the azure waters is simply stunning and will leave a lasting impression.

The history, natural beauty, and cultural vitality of Omis combine to create a destination that is rich in character and charm. Whether you're seeking adventure on the Cetina River, exploring the medieval fortresses, or simply savouring the local cuisine, Omis has something to offer every traveller who ventures to this utterly enchanting corner of the Dalmatian coast.

Families love Villa Nedy. Not only does it enjoy a fabulous swimming pool, it boasts a jacuzzi, darts on the patio, televisions in all bedrooms and a wonderful home cinema room with a projector screen and PS4. At the end of an active day on the Cetina River or on the beach, youngsters will be thrilled to relax with a Netflix movie or an hour or two gaming.

The nearest beach can be reached in roughly 15 minutes and the wide expanses of sandy beach at Duce are not far away. Modern day Duce has evolved from 6 old settlements. It boasts 5km of long shallow sandy beaches as well as many cafes and bars. There are also some lovely beaches along the Makarska Riviera. Markarska, the town, is very popular for its ice-cream parlours, beaches, harbour and the Makarska Observatory where small children can observe the clear skies and planets through the telescope. Boat trips can be taken from the harbour. Split also has some good beaches. Znjan offers trampolines, bouncy castles, paddle boats with slides and electric scooters. Split’s Bacvice Beach has a playground and many locals playing the game Picigin. Participants pass a ball around by hitting it with the palm of their hand while they are standing in the shallow water.

Harry Potter and Game of Thrones fans will enjoy visiting the cellar in the Diocletian’s Palace in Split where Deanerys kept her dragons and other locations around the town. Overlooking Split, the Klis Fortress was used in the filming of Game of Thrones.

It is probably pretty easy to say that the most memorable day of all for children will be on the Cetina River. Children can swim, rock climb, jump off rocks into emerald pools, raft, kayak, ride on inflatables and zipline. Older children can try their hand at canyoning or paragliding.

The sensational Plitvice Lakes National Park was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979. The park’s sixteen stunning lakes are inter-connected by a series of stunning waterfalls. Visitors enjoy jumping into the fresh water, standing under waterfalls, the stunning scenery and hiking.

Croatia’s Krka National Park is another very popular famous attraction. A boat takes you from Skradin to Skradinski. Children can swim, stand under spring water waterfalls, jump off rocks, hike the trails, enjoy picnics and take the boat ride. The scenery is breathtaking with top attractions including the magnificent Skradinski and Buk waterfalls, the small island of Visovac and the Roski Slap waterfall.
