Situated on the beautiful stretch of Dalmatian coastline, just 11km from Omis and 25km from Makarska, Mimice is the perfect Croatian town for those looking for a relaxing holiday free from hectic crowds.

Located between the mountains and beautiful gravel beaches, you’ll be ideally placed to enjoy its selection of quiet bars and restaurants. Along the beach you’ll find some lovely options, where you can enjoy the fresh catch of the day, straight from the fisherman’s boats. There’s a delightful old tavern you won’t want to miss, selling fine local wine and fresh grilled fish, exuding an ambience you just won’t want to leave.

The lovely beaches in the area make this an ideal destination for families. Shallow waters, protected bays, crystal clear waters and a convenient pedestrianized zone along the coast, mean that a day on the beach with your little ones couldn’t be easier. There are two public beaches in Mimice itself. For the adventurous amongst you, scuba diving, surfing, boat trips or even night fishing are all on offer.

If you’re looking for a little more hustle and bustle, a short drive into the old pirate town of Omis will provide a greater selection of nightlife, a large shopping Centre and an array of sporting activities from rafting to canyoning. The Venetian fortress that looks out over the town from the hillside and a 17th century parish church are charming landmarks worth a visit. There are also opportunities here to arrange day trips to neighboring Islands, the National Parks of Krka and Pritvice, and the beautiful city of Dubrovnik.

Region

Makarska, perched between the Biokovo mountain range and the glistening waters of the Adriatic Sea, is a stunning destination where nature's grandeur takes centre stage. The imposing mountains rise dramatically behind the town, creating a striking backdrop for the entire region. With its distinct Mediterranean climate, visitors can expect warm summers and mild winters, making it an ideal year-round destination.

The Riva - the town's seafront promenade - is a focal point of the community, where locals and visitors alike gather to soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere. Lined with palm trees and a variety of cafes, restaurants, and boutiques, the Riva is the perfect place to unwind, take in the scenic views of the sea and settle into the Croatian pace of life. As the sun sets over the Adriatic, Makarska comes alive with a vibrant nightlife scene. The Riva transforms into a lively hub of entertainment, with street performers, live music, DJ sets, and a chance to mingle with locals and fellow travellers.

If you're a history enthusiast, Makarska's rich heritage and historic sites will surely pique your interest. The Church of St. Mark, built in the early 18th century, stands as a testament to the region's strong Catholic tradition. The Baroque architecture and stunning altarpieces make it a notable religious landmark.

For a deeper dive into the past, the Makarska Franciscan Monastery, founded in the 16th century, houses an impressive collection of artefacts including ancient manuscripts and artwork. The monastery's cloister and church are architectural marvels in their own right. Within the complex, the Malacological Museum showcases an extensive collection of seashells, a testament to the region's maritime heritage.

The Makarska Riviera boasts a series of blue-flag beaches and crystal-clear waters, ensuring a perfect setting for relaxation and water activities. The most famous is the Makarska Beach itself, stretching for almost 2 kilometres and offering a plethora of water sports, sunbathing spots, and beachfront cafes. While sunbathing and swimming are the primary draws, you can also indulge in snorkelling, paddle-boarding, and jet skiing to experience the vibrant underwater world of the Adriatic.

Heading north along the Makarska Riviera, you’ll come to the town of Brela, famed for its pristine beaches. One of the best, Punta Rata, is often ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world. The crystal-clear waters and the iconic Brela Rock jutting from the sea make it a picture-perfect spot for sunbathing and swimming.

The Biokovo Nature Park, often overshadowed by the coast, offers a different but equally wonderful experience. Here, the rugged mountain terrain allows for hiking, trekking, and adventure in the heart of nature. There are several well-marked trails that lead you through lush forests, up to the highest peak of Sveti Jure (St. George), providing breathtaking panoramic views of the Adriatic and the surrounding islands.

Day trips to nearby destinations are also a great way to explore the broader region. The islands of Hvar and Brač are easily accessible by ferry and make for fantastic day excursions. Hvar is known for its beautiful old town and lavender fields, while Brač is famous for the stunning Zlatni Rat beach.

This enchanting coastal region, characterised by its stunning beaches, rugged mountains, and vibrant atmosphere, is undoubtedly a place that leaves a lasting impression. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the diversity of the Dalmatian region. Whether you're a nature lover, history buff, or simply in search of a relaxing coastal escape, Makarska offers something for every traveller.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

The private pool is always a popular feature with our younger guests, with space for them to play and splash about endlessly through the day and the spacious terrace provides plenty of room for children to run around in! The villa also comes with table tennis and satellite television, which is sure to keep the little ones entertained when the sun goes down.

There are many gorgeous beaches along the Omis and Makarska Rivieras. Further towards Makarska, Baska Voda is an excellent beach. Markarska is very popular for its ice-cream parlours, beaches, harbour and the Makarska Observatory where children can observe the clear skies and planets through the telescope. There are special steps for small children. Usually there are clear skies and you can see Mars, Saturn and even the moon! Boat trips can be taken from Makarska’s harbour to the Croatian islands.

The Cetina River is a fantastic water playground for children and adults alike. It is incredibly beautiful and perfect for walking or picnics, as well as swimming, rock climbing, jumping off rocks into emerald pools, rafting, kayaking, riding on inflatables and ziplining. On a 150m high steel wire, visitors can zipline at speeds up to 65km an hour over 2km. Older children can try their hand at canyoning or paragliding.

For more zipline fun you can head to ZipLine Tucepi, just south of Makarska. It is fantastic for an afternoon out with children and can easily be combined with a beach trip. Young children can ride tandem with the zip line guide. The 6 steel cables stretch across the beautiful canyon. Flying along at high speeds in this wonderful natural countryside is so thrilling, if a little scary!

Split is sure to be rewarding too – among the must-sees are an amazing aquarium and a semi-submarine that lets you see beneath the ocean. Older teens can enjoy Segway tours, younger ones can enjoy the Magical City play zone at Poljud Stadium, and all will love what’s on offer down at Znjan Beach, with bouncy castles, arcade games and paddle boats.

  • Simply stunning villa

    on 06/08/2023

Ivona and the team were incredibly welcoming and the detail and preparation of the villa is exceptional. We (adult family of 7) had the most relaxing and enjoyable time. While the villa is perfect, the short walk down to the private beach really makes the holiday. The kayaks were great fun. Overall I cannot recommend this villa highly enough - it is simple stunning.

  • Fantastic!

    on 28/05/2022

This villa was absolutely stunning. The pictures don’t do it justice. The villa comfortably hosted two families with 5 kids and we had plenty of space. We enjoyed the ocean views, pool, hot tub, seafood feast kindly gifted by our hosts, essentially private beach and day boat trip arranged by our hosts. We had all the amenities to make our stay comfortable and were impressed by the hotel level of maintenance/cleanliness by this professionally run holiday home. Our hosts were responsive, check-in/out was smooth, we had everything we needed. We’ll be back again!

  • Wonderful experience!

    on 23/04/2022

Our stay in Villa Cliff was amazing! The villa is even more beautiful than on photos and the view of the sea is breathtaking! We had a really nice time, enjoying by the pool,in the jacuzzi and swiming in the sea. Owners of the villa were so nice, they prepared a dinner for us. We had the most wonderful experience! I would recommend it 100%!

  • A perfect family holiday

    on 09/04/2022

Fantastic hosts for a wonderful property! Villa Cliff is beautifully presented, very light, with the most fantastic views. The beach and pool are both wonderful and all day can be spent exploring and relaxing. There is everything you need for a great family holiday, a wonderful fire, great games room and the rooms are all clean, spacious and comfortable. One piece of advice, hire a car to give you the ability to get out for day trips and shopping. A very relaxing place, perfect for family trips with very accommodating hosts! Thanks for such a lovely stay, we were so impressed and thankful when you waited for us and absolutely loved the place.

  • Thanks for a great stay, we hope to come back.

    on 20/10/2017

We have just had a week here and we all loved it. The views are amazing, and we spent all week in awe of the fabulous and ever changing vista. The villa comfortably accommodated 8 of us, and everything was like new and finished to a. very high standard. The pool was a comfortable 24 degrees, and we all spent a lot of time in there even though it was the end of the season. We also spent a lot of time on the private beach enjoying the canoes and snorkelling in the super clear water, we saw lots of fish, but watch out for the sea urchins!

The local restaurant a couple of miles to the north was basic, but great quality, and very hospitable. The owners of Villa Cliff could not have been more helpful, and they even brought us some fresh fish from the market, which we barbecued on the terrace.

All in all a great place to go and relax and just enjoy the scenery.

  • Highly Recommend!

    on 22/07/2017

Wonderful staying in such beautiful and new accommodations! While it is quite a few steps to the sea, it is totally worth it. Enjoyed using the sea kayaks. Split is not too far away for good day trips or adventure. The small town of Brela was delightful for dinner. Should have explored more but it was hard to leave the house! Our hosts greeted us at the house and explained everything. Even offered to cook dinner one night but our schedules conflicted. Many nice outdoor dining and lounging spots.
