Tamarind House has been featured in Maco magazine and the book Caribbean Elegance, by Michael Connors because of the large collection of antique West Indian furniture it contains -

A staircase descending from the car park, leads you into a cool, circular courtyard filled with banana plants and flowers. As you pass through the graceful arched doorway, the enormous 2550 sq ft living room stretches away before you and leads to the terrace where the tamarind tree grows up out of the tiles. This fabulous tree provides shade and coolness to the house all through the day. The living room features two seven foot settees and a very large travertine stone coffee table. The dining table seats six to eight and the wild breadfruit trestle table can be used for large parties.

The main building of Tamarind House has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, while the separate Cottage is a master bedroom suite with its own living room, kitchen (with coffee press, kettle, toaster and stove), dressing area, marble bathroom, king size four poster bed and terrace.

The master bedroom is 640 sq ft of bedroom and private terrace with a beautiful antique king size four poster bed, side tables, a hand carved standing cheval mirror and small armoir. There is a walk in closet with a safe, and an Italian tiled bathroom with tub/shower and two sinks. The Piton view from the bed is framed by bougainvillea climbing up the stone walls. The second bedroom has 415 sq ft of bedroom and private terrace with a queen four poster bed, carved standing mirror, two side tables with Chinese blue and white lamps and a marble topped antique table beside the walk in closet. The en-suite marble bathroom with shower has high quality fixtures and a chrome mirror. The third bedroom is for children and has a double and a single four poster bed. It also has its own private terrace and Italian tiled bathroom with shower.

The Cottage master bedroom suite has three graceful stone arch openings and 30 foot high ceilings. Long white curtains at each door way billow out in the breeze. Two large 7 foot couches with blue and white cushions, a large coffee table and antique tables beside the king size red cedar four poster bed make this a wonderfully private romantic space. A collection of paintings by St. Kitts artist Kate Spencer are on display here. A dressing area with chest of drawers, hanging cupboard and shelves leads into the marble tiled bathroom with shower. Exceptionally high quality 100% Egyptian cotton sheets, French linen bed covers and plush towels will pamper you. The Cottage has its own kitchen and terrace with dining table and chairs. The 35x15 foot totally private pool is situated below the Cottage and has 1060 sq ft of terrace and shade pavilion around it. The pool edge is open on one side to give uninterrupted views of the Pitons. The house also has a professional size tennis court with a Bioflex surface and of course superb views of the Pitons as you play.

Tamarind House is located just off the Anse Chastanet Road; approximately 1.5 miles from Soufriere and 5 minutes from Anse Chastanet beach. Covering 8850 sq ft of space, this exceptionally large house is constructed of local stone with high greenheart ceilings and Barbados tile floors throughout.

St Lucia is located midway down the Eastern Caribbean chain, between Martinique and St. Vincent, and north of Barbados. St. Lucia is only 27 miles long and 14 miles wide. The Atlantic Ocean meets its eastern shore, while the beaches of the west coast owe their beauty to the calm Caribbean Sea.

St Lucia is also a romantic paradise for couples; bask together under the Carribean Sun, sail into a champagne sunset and relax under the vast starry sky. For all those who travel to this island, tropical weather, glorious weather and the holiday of a lifetime truly does await.

Taking the time to explore this island really is a must, enjoy a trip to Malgretout Waterfall to swim in the volcanic waters or visit the palm-fringed Marigot Bay and its marina filled with luxury yachts. For those who really want to relax while in St Lucia, the Diamond Falls Mineral Baths which date from pre-revolutionary France are a must-visit. Similarly, just a short bus ride from the town of Soufrière are the New Jerusalem outdoor mineral baths, said to soothe sore muscles and tired joints. The baths are a well-kept secret, away from tourist crowds, which should make your visit extra peaceful.

It is not only the scenery that makes St Lucia so wonderful; the people are unbelievably friendly and hospitable. Pop into the friendly and beautifully decorated Zaka Art cafe in Soufriere for the best freshly roasted coffee, yummy fruit smoothies and unique works of art available to purchase.

Whether you are planning a wedding or honeymoon, a spa retreat or a family holiday it is the perfect destination. A stay in on of our exclusive St. Lucia villa's will refresh your mind, revitalise your body and soothe your spirit.

About the Island & Getting There

About St Lucia

The Land, The People, The Light – St Lucia’s motto couldn’t be more representative of this captivating sovereign island nation. Witness dazzling scenery, be spellbound by the fascinating locals and allow for St Lucia to brighten your day and show you a new way to life.

St Lucia gained its independence from the British Commonwealth in 1979 and after centuries of a French presence, which is most visible today in the original Capital of Soufrière, St Lucia is famous for its Pitons & landscapes and vivacious community.

St Lucia really is a hiker’s Nirvana! Where to start? That’s a tough question. However, with the likes of - The Diamond Botanical Gardens, Enbas Saut Waterfall Trail, Pigeon Island National Park, Sulphur Springs Park Scenic Drive and Tet Paul Nature Trail – it doesn’t matter! These UNESCO listed sites are a sight to behold. If you're likely to take to the water, you'll be able to admire the rich marine biodiversity just off the shore of St Lucia. Over 60% of the marine area is made up of coral reefs and these are very poular with snorkelers and scuba divers. Just make sure you put time aside to relish these privileged land & seascapes.

Start your cultural trip downtown in Castries. Here you will be provided with more than enough entertainment for an afternoon and evening. The local Market runs throughout the week and is certainly the right place to come for exotic fruits and tantalising Street Food - the Green Fig & Salt Fish is local delicacy and it's not scarce, so perhaps try a few variants on this regional intricacy and let us know which is your favourite! The vendors are incredibly animated, so expect a show to be put on if you choose to explore this part of the island and brush up on those haggling skills. La Place Carenage and Point Seraphine are very popular Malls and if you bear in mind the added incentive of these complexes being Duty-Free, you and your guests will certainly get some good deals (A taxi back to your villa after such an excursion is suggested!).

Many holiday makers are surprised to learn of St Lucia’s rich cocoa legacy. Ever since the 1700’s this island has been producing cocoa related products, that are incredibly sought after all across the world. Morne Coubaril Estate and La Dauphine Estate specialise in showcasing how plantations use to gather & manufacture the Cocoa Bean fruit and organise educational tours. After learning all about St Lucia’s former booming cocoa industry, you will probably need some therapy…how about chocolate therapy like you’ve never encountered before? Enquire at some of the islands more renowned Spas and you’ll be able to experience the benefits of a chocolate facial and massage. Remember - Chocolate isn’t a food, it’s a medicine!

We have selected some of the most exciting villas on the island, so browse through these dreamy holiday homes and have a look at our cheeky little guide to St Lucia!

The Tamarind Villa is a fantastic place to enjoy and relax. The view from all places in the villa are fabulous.”

  • Best holiday in a long while

    Posted by Jon on 03/06/2018

We found the place amazing everything from the fantastic views, the great food cooked for us and the staff who totally looked after us. Popo was great in transporting us and recommending where to go and accommodating everything we needed and the ladies at the house totally looked after us and cooked such great meals we only went out one night.

  • St Lucia and Tamarind House - an excellent family vacation!!

    Posted by Steve on 02/04/2018

Our trip to Tamarind House in Soufriere, St. Lucia, was fantastic!! The property itself was amazing and it is true that the pictures do not do it justice! The housekeepers Ann and Cheryl make the difference as their excellent meals allowed us to relax and just enjoy our family vacation. In addition, Paul, the caretaker, provided everything we needed. We utilized the taxi that Nancy the homeowner provided and that also worked out very well! It was a great experience - thank you all for a wonderful trip!

  • The pictures honestly don't depict the true beauty from this hilltop perch.

We stayed for six nights with another family and had an amazing time. The house was uniquely built and immaculate. Nancy, the owner was helpful and available for questions throughout the whole planning of our trip. The staff was wonderful, having breakfast and lunch made daily by Ann and Cheryl was a huge plus. We had chef Basil cook for us on two nights and that was really nice because there isn't a better location to have dinner than this one. Popo drove us to the Enbas Saut rainforest hike and waterfall. He organized a guide for us on the way which was helpful. St. Lucia is a great place to unplug, unwind, and be in nature. Sleeping with the breezes and night creature sounds will be missed as we head back to the snowy northeast. One suggestion is to heed the owner's advice about either having a driver from the airport or having a four wheel drive vehicle to get up here. The roads are steep and pretty rough in places. Tamarind house is amazing and memorable. The sunsets were the best part. We loved it!

  • “I’ll (we”ll) be back”!!

    Posted by MD on 31/01/2017

We spent nine nights at Tamarind House at the end of November/early December with 2 other couples.

Upon our arrival we were all blown away by Tamarind House. It is a very spacious and well-furnished villa complete with a separate cottage, swimming pool and tennis court. What was most impressive was the stunning view of the Pitons as well as a panoramic view of the Caribbean Sea. These views could be had from every room in the villa, as well as from the pool and tennis court. We just couldn’t get enough of them! It was truly magnificent.

Ann & Cheryl , the cooks / housekeepers prepared our meals for us. Our favourite meals were the ones with fresh fish, tuna and mahi mahi, caught that morning by the local fishermen followed by coconut ice cream for dessert.

With respect to beaches, we visited the beach shared by Anse Chastanet & Jade Mountain resorts which was a short 15 minute walk down the hill. While there, we had access to snorkeling and scuba diving as well as the resorts beach bar and restaurants.

I would highly recommend Tamarind House. It is a great place to relax, unwind and enjoy the spectacular views of St. Lucia. To quote a famous person…
