About the Island & Getting There

About Barbados

At first glance you could be mistaken for thinking that Barbados is purely a beach holiday destination, but you're urged to reconsider this common belief. The island of Barbados is peppered with astonishing landscapes (both coastal and inland), enchanting locals, sublime cuisine, intriguing rums, fascinating wildlife, symbolic architecture and a selection of striking holiday villas.

Delve deep into the history of the island and start your holiday by visiting Sunbury Plantation House & Museum. This former plantation was built in 1660's and the premises are scattered with antiquities that delicately detail a recent history of Barbados. St. Nicholas Abbey also provides an insightful representation of Sugarcane production, Bajan artefacts and a wonderful observation point at Cherry Tree Hill. If you’re keen to visit one of the oldest Parliamentary buildings within the Commonwealth and appreciate the democratic legacy of Barbados, drop by The Parliament Buildings. This neo-gothic congress can be found in Bridgetown and act as a representation of Barbados’s Independence. There is so much history present throughout the island and as a result, Bridgetown and its Garrison has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, which the locals are very proud of.

Great efforts have been made to persevere the natural beauty of Barbados, so if you’re drawn to the exploration of National Parks and multicoloured gardens, it won’t take you long to realise that Barbados is a haven for such paradises! Within the Andromeda Botanic Gardens, Farley Hill National Park, Flower Forest, Hunte's Gardens and Welchman Hall Gully - visitors, and Botanist alike, will be lost for hours admiring these astonishing botanical parklands. Keep an eye out for the Dwarf Poinciana, or Peacock Flower…it’s the national flower of Barbados.

Bajan’s take their food very seriously! If you and your fellow travellers are enticed by the gastronomic aspect of holidaying, we believe you’ve selected the right island. With every aspect of cookery mastered; from pickling to freshly prepared dishes, sweet & savoury, fragrant & spicy and of course, the bountiful choice of seafood. Check out the food stalls in Paynes Bay Church – where vendors exhibit locally made dishes & street food that will scintillate the taste buds. At the end of every working week, locals and tourists both flock to Oistins, for 'Fish Fry Day'. This is a must for those who haven’t undergone the experience! The evening starts with barbecues and then ascends into a joyful party. This caps off a busy few days of work for locals as well as the 'strains' associated with serious holidaying.

Barbados is of course iconic for its Beaches & Rum…so why not bring them together? You will have to go out of your way not to be able to find a beach bar along the west coast of the island, as well as the countless Rum Shops. Yes, you’ve read correctly, Rum Shops! These small and locally run businesses embrace the Bajan spice of life, in liquid form. Very delicious! If you’re searching for something a little more special, take a trip to the east coast and visit Sand Dunes Bar and Restaurant at Windy Hill, for an unforgettable experience.

Barbados is a distinct and striking part of the Caribbean. It’s a great fit for all types of travellers, as the island really does have it all. For a little more information about this delightful island, check out our guide to a remarkable stay!

  • A fabulous place to stay!

    Posted by Sarah on 09/12/2018

We have just returned from a truly amazing holiday staying at the beautiful Buttsbury House, two weeks was just not enough we could have stayed forever! Located in a fantastic location only a 10-15 minutes walk to the beach at Payne’s Bay which was fabulous. Should you wish to drive less than 5 minutes away. Hometown only a 10 minute drive away with plenty of restaurants, shops and the supermarket Massy. I cannot thank enough the lovely Beverley and Nirene, they simply are the best and catered for all our needs and more! Will we returning......definitely, the best holiday we have had!

  • Will be back for sure.

    Posted by Shani on 24/06/2018

Stayed here for my wedding. Its hard to juggle the needs and wants of 12 different 20 to 30 year old but Ca Limbo checked every box. Great location. Beaches, restaurants and even a hospital within walking distance. A/C in every bedroom. Wifi works. A big pool that was well maintained. Where Ca Limbo really shines is the staff. Tracy and the gang are personable, efficient and resourceful. Cook was fantastic. Orson the security guard is there from 6 pm to 6 am. You might even get some singing out of him. Voice of an angel. He locked up a few times when everyone was too "happy" to remember. I am torn between recommending Ca Limbo to people I know or keeping this gem for myself.

  • We would go back again

We had a wonderful time, the house was perfect and the staff were awesome! 13 of us were so comfortable, we never ate out once the cook was fantastic.

  • Wow! What a treat!

Posted by Pike Family on 06/03/2018

Wow! What a treat! This was a beautiful home located very close to the beach and other wonderful amenities. But more important than that was the staff. Tracy, Evangeline, Donna and Orson made our stay so comfortable and amazing. I think my toddler may even believe that Tracy is his auntie. The food was wonderful and Evangeline even took time to cook with my husband and show him a local dish. Donna was always one step ahead and had our laundry and rooms done without us even realizing it. They were so personable. Orson kept a watch over the house at night and he could not have been a nicer human being. The owners are lucky to have them as employees and we were lucky to have met them. Our rooms were very comfortable, clean and cool. The pools (one with the casita as well) were very clean and the landscaping was perfect. A little oasis. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. Thank you !!

  • Buttsbury was a great choice

    Posted by Dan on 02/02/2018

Our extended family of ten came for a one week vacation, and this was our first time to Barbados. As soon as we walked in the front door, it was clear the house was a success. The three couples each got fabulous rooms around the pool, while the kids claimed the remaining two rooms before hitting the pool. In the evening, everyone was comfortable in the TV room while the kids lounged in the "pillow pit," watching the Olympics. Seated at the couches, we could all play games and lounge. In the mornings, we sat on the back patio, watching for monkeys. The best part, however, was Beverly. Beverly took the time to talk to the kids, learn about our family's dietary needs, and then to cook local meals specially prepared so everyone could enjoy them. The flying fish was fabulous. The marlin was even better. The plaintains and fried potatoes were huge hits. And the birthday meal she cooked for our son? "The best birthday ever." The beach is a five minute drive down the hill to Paynes Bay. Or, park at Holetown beach for a great local vibe (rent a beach chair, enjoy the beach-side food and drinks, rent a jet-ski, go snorkeling, etc.). A few more minutes down the road is Folkstone Marine Park for even better snorkeling and fewer people, albeit a much smaller beach. At the end of every day, we were thrilled to come home, have a pina colada by the pool, and then enjoy Beverly's great cooking. Buttsbury was a great choice.

  • Dreamy

    Posted by Monuwar on 23/10/2014

Immediately upon entering, it felt like being whisked away to a private utopia. The decor, the atmosphere, the serenity, the layout of the property, the friendly and efficient staff, the whole package was pleasantly overwhelming and jaw-dropping. Whether lounging in house or the garden, going off on activities, starting and ending the day in Buttsbury was absolutely divine, I could not have asked for more. Great location on the west coast meant a beach to watch the sunset or relax on was never too far away. Amenities in the house were more than adequate, phone, internet, & AC. I genuinely do not have a bad word to say about my experience - dream of returning there soon!
