Perched on the breathtaking coastline of Anglesey, Bara House is a true gem nestled between the dramatic Snowdon Mountains and the shimmering waters of Borth Wen Bay. Just a stone’s throw from the charming village of Rhoscolyn, this stunning beach cottage is a dream destination for those looking to escape to the seaside with family and friends. With space for up to twelve guests – and a larger sister property available to book – it’s the perfect setting for a gathering, where coastal charm meets thoughtful design.

Stepping inside, you’re immediately embraced by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The home’s interiors have been lovingly renovated to balance classic elegance with modern comfort. Light pours in through the full-height windows, illuminating the open-plan living and dining area. Here, a spacious kitchen, fully equipped with everything you need, offers a perfect spot to prepare meals while soaking in the view. The dining table, set against a backdrop of coastal beauty, invites long, laughter-filled dinners with loved ones. The living spaces are cleverly designed to cater to everyone – an adult lounge for relaxed conversation and a separate snug for the little ones to unwind after a day of adventure.

The seven beautifully appointed bedrooms are spread across two levels, each with its own unique charm. Upstairs, two large bedrooms enjoy sweeping ocean vistas, sharing a stylish, contemporary bathroom. Downstairs, three of the bedrooms open directly onto the private terrace, where the morning light filters through the greenery. The master suite, with its four-poster bed and plush seating area, offers a retreat-like experience, perfect for slow mornings with a cup of tea in hand.

Step outside and you’ll find yourself immersed in a coastal paradise. The expansive garden is a haven of relaxation, complete with a hammock swaying in the breeze and a bubbling hot tub ready to melt away any stress. For those with an active spirit, the private tennis court, Rebo wall, and table tennis provide hours of entertainment. And when the day draws to a close, there’s no better place to be than gathered around the coal barbecue, watching the sun dip beneath the horizon, casting golden hues over the bay.

Bara House isn’t just a place to stay – it’s a place to create cherished memories, where every detail has been designed with comfort and joy in mind. Whether you’re exploring the coastal trails, enjoying a family meal on the terrace, or simply basking in the tranquil surroundings, this is a home that invites you to truly relax and savour the beauty of Anglesey.

Set in its own delightful grounds Bara House benefits from breath-taking vistas at every angle. Watch the sunrise over nearby Borth Wen Bay, within easy walking distance, ideal for enjoying a lovely coastal walk or getting stuck in with a bucket and spade. Backed by sand dunes this is a lovely safe beach where children can paddle or stretch their legs with the circular walk along Rhoscolyn beach towards the headland.

If you are looking for a night off from cooking, then we recommend a trip to the excellent local pub, The White Eagle. A real hidden gem, this pub is often referred to as the best on the island, with an elevated outdoor terrace, mouth-watering roasts and a selection of ales, all complimented by a stunning view, just two minutes from your door.

For a day trip out why not visit the only working windmill in Wales at Llynon Mill?  Built in 1775 the mill still produces wholemeal flour, whilst two neighbouring roundhouses provide a unique insight into the farming practise and lifestyle of the Iron Age. There is also a wonderful on-site café to grab some lunch or a slice of cake during your visit.

If you want to get out on the waves, we recommend a visit to Beaumaris Pier to grab a boat trip to Puffin Island. Skippers will steer you past the seal colony and seal cave at Penmon Point lighthouse, whilst the Island itself has a plethora of birdlife from cormorants, guillemots and of course puffins! If you are lucky you may even spot bottlenose dolphins or harbour porpoises swimming by.

A trip into the Snowdonia national park is a must during your stay. Whether you are looking to climb the highest peaks or just take in the natural beauty of the National Park there is something for everyone. We recommend the Llyn Cwellyn Boardwalk trail, an easy access lakeside walk that meanders between two soaring mountain peaks.  If hiking isn’t your thing then why not hop on board the seasonal Snowdon Railway, surely one of the most picturesque train rides in the world, with stunning scenery and awe-inspiring views you can ride the rail right to the summit without any exertion needed!

Region

Anglesey, an enchanting island off the northwest coast of Wales, is a holiday destination that effortlessly blends natural beauty, rich history, and an abundance of attractions. Known as “Ynys Môn” in Welsh, this idyllic island is surrounded by pristine beaches, rugged coastal paths, and dramatic sea cliffs, offering an unparalleled setting for those seeking a tranquil escape or an adventure-filled getaway. The Anglesey Coastal Path, a 125-mile trail encircling the island, showcases breathtaking vistas and diverse wildlife, making it a haven for walkers, birdwatchers, and nature lovers. With its Blue Flag beaches like Newborough and Benllech, Anglesey also appeals to families and beachgoers, offering golden sands, safe swimming waters, and opportunities for watersports like kayaking and paddleboarding.

Beyond its natural allure, Anglesey is steeped in history and culture. Visitors can explore ancient monuments such as Bryn Celli Ddu, a Neolithic burial chamber, or marvel at Beaumaris Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its perfectly symmetrical design. The island’s charming villages and bustling market towns, such as Menai Bridge and Holyhead, boast traditional pubs, independent shops, and local delicacies, including fresh seafood and the famous Anglesey sea salt. For a unique experience, visit the picturesque South Stack Lighthouse, perched atop cliffs teeming with seabirds, or take a trip to Llanddwyn Island, a romantic spot steeped in legend and linked to the Welsh patron saint of love, St. Dwynwen. With its unspoiled landscapes, fascinating heritage, and variety of activities, Anglesey promises an unforgettable holiday for couples, families, and solo travelers alike.

Watch your children fall in love with the outdoors with the coast right on your doorstep.  Whilst Borth Wen Bay provides a safe place to paddle and build sandcastles, older children will enjoy a chance to get out on the water.  B-active at Rhoscolyn has an outdoor pursuits base where activities can be tailored to your group.  Take kayaks out on the water or even try your hand at some adrenalin pumping coasteering around the craggy coast of Anglesey.

In the summer months Breakwater Country Park, an impressive former quarry, hosts a Model Boat Club on the pond which is popular with children.  There is also the Maritime Museum on Newry Beach with the oldest lifeboat house in Wales.  It has a handy bar and bistro for grabbing lunch on the go during your visit.

Further afield, the Anglesey Sea Zoo is a great place to visit with young kids, with over 40 tanks holding marine life found in British waters from seahorses to jellyfish and all in between.  The charming Anglesey Model Village and Garden has a wonderful display of Anglesey landmarks and a working miniature railway that runs throughout, children can play in the self-drive railway engine or enjoy a picnic, a great way to spend the day.
