Church House is a 16th century farmhouse that re-invents the traditional country escape. This eclectic home mixes period features, contemporary design and modern amenities. It’s a joyous retreat that will be sure to knock your wellies off.
Hidden in a hamlet of just 24 houses, Church House is in the middle of nowhere (no street lights and nothing to disturb your sleep other than owls) but also only 5 minutes from Frome, the town that The Sunday Times names as the best place to live in the south-west of England. It’s also just 20 minutes from the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath, 15 minutes from Longleat and 30 minutes from Stonehenge.
The interior is superb. The welcoming ground floor is all stylish wallpaper, exposed wooden beams, open fireplaces, exquisite paintings and antiques. The contemporary kitchen is perfect for multi-tasking cooks while the dining room will seat up to 12 beside the fire or - if you’re up for a singalong, around the piano. The drawing room features a huge log-burning stove and equally huge TV for cosy evenings in, and there’s a separate snug with a Playstation and projector, for those who want something a little different.
On the first floor there are four double bedrooms and three bathrooms (two en-suite) and on the second floor two additional double bedrooms with a shared bathroom.
Outside, the front garden overlooks the 11th century church while the walled back garden looks out across fields to the south-west. The terrace forms an outside seating area - the perfect spot to take in the fresh Somerset air or enjoy a game of Scrabble with a glass of rosé. The gardens and fields around the house extend to over 5 acres, so there’s also plenty of room for more energetic games, if you need to work off that lunch.
* There are two additional rental cottages located opposite the house that may be occupied during your stay. These are entirely separate and don’t share any facilities
* Please note the property has personal belongings of the owners at the property. The property is rented as a holiday let and not a venue. The number of guests on site during a rental cannot exceed the booking capacity.
