BRAND NEW TO THE RENTAL MARKET FOR 2020

Yetson House holds a wonderful position nestled amongst eight acres of landscaped gardens and set within the beautiful South Hams, a region renowned for its rolling countryside and scenic beaches. While guests will enjoy total tranquillity, helpful amenities can be found in the villages of Ashprington and Tuckenhay, both less than five minutes away, while the historic market town of Totnes is less than a fifteen minute drive from the house.

The Grade II listed country house dates back to the 1830’s and as a result boasts endless charm, character and period features. The owners have lovingly modernised the home and today it seamlessly combines its original features with contemporary interiors and elegant furnishings throughout. Yetson House can comfortably accommodate up to twenty guests across the main house and the equally beautiful barn.

On the ground floor is the main entertaining space which comprises of an elegant drawing room and sitting room, as well as a dining room, the round dining table makes it the perfect place for the group to gather and discuss the highlights of the day. The kitchen comes fully-equipped and boasts all the tools a budding chef could possibly need to whip up a delicious meal for your loved ones. On the first floor are the first of the bedrooms, two king-size bedrooms both with en-suite facilities and a twin room which can make the use of a family shower room. Upstairs, on the second floor are a further two spacious double bedrooms which share the use of a family wet room as well as a children’s playroom area.

To the East of the main house is a detached stone barn with vaulted ceilings and countryside views, it has been lovingly modernised to as high a standard as the house. The barn features an upside down layout, four of the bedrooms are situated on the ground floor, these are all double rooms and share the use of two family bathrooms. Upstairs, on the first floor is the entertaining space which comprises of two reception rooms, a fully-equipped kitchen and a family shower room. Upstairs, on the second floor on a galleried mezzanine level is the fabulous master bedroom.

Outside, guests will enjoy exploring the eight acres of wonderfully landscaped gardens, with a vineyard, paddock and woodland with specially created paths, ideal for peaceful walks. The whole family will enjoy splashing around in the private pool during the Summer months, while the terrace makes the perfect place to gather and enjoy a quiet sundowner after action packed days spent exploring this beautiful part of Devon.

Owner Profile

Property Owner
Teresa

How long have you owned the property?
We purchased it some 13 years ago. Having spent many years working abroad, we were searching for a tranquil hideaway to share with friend's family.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
Keen foodies, tennis players, kayakers and lovers of the arts, Yetson House was the perfect solution for us. Previously owned by Kate Caddy, Scion to fabulous Dartington Hall, grand-daughter to Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst, members of the Bloombsberry set. The house was overflowing with extraordinary art work, from new and existing named artists. Much conversation was had about the history of the house, where a land owning ‘gentleman’ held marvelous dinner parties waxing lyrical about the tropical garden area created by lighting real coal fires under the earth to grow bananas and pineapples. We loved the energy in the house, a true entertaining house with so many different areas to lounge, dine and play.We loved the stories shared by Kate, the Henry Moore’s that littered the lounge, the passionate discussions about music and purchased the house immediately, they laugh , minus the Henry Moore s! A vineyard had also been started and has been lovingly continued, currently producing 50 bottles of Rose each year, produced at Sharpham Vineyard for fun, a fifteen minute walk away.

Do you have a favourite part of the house?
Our favorite parts of the house are hard to select, all corners hold special memories, the walled garden would have to be one choice with far reaching views, spectacular flowered borders, the main bedroom suite and its extraordinary bathroom that was once a library too. The main house courtyard for late night drinks with its fire pit and running rill too are a great area to hang.

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...

Really do?
Sharpham Vineyard is wonderful for a longer stroll, wine and cheese tasting and a personal tour is available most days in season. Most of all we love staying home at Yetson House and being with friends and family sharing all that Yetson House has to offer, it just keeps giving.

Really eat?
Our favourite local haunts are our local pub The Durant Arms, a must, fabulous gastro pub food, a fabulous welcome by the owners and great local clientele.

Mitch Tonks wonderful ‘Seahorse restaurant ‘ in Dartmouth is a truly fun experience, especially for a late lazy Saturday luncheon, great local fish caught by Mitch ‘s own trawlers, a wonderful wine selection and if you are lucky a brilliant guest chef such as Angela Hartnett.

Really see?
Crabbing at Dittisham, a movie at the 1946 restored cinema in Totnes, the wonderful South Hams beaches, especially Blackpool Sands to kayak and paddle board, Bantham Beach to surf and play beach games and Hope Cove for a romantic quiet sunbathe, are firm favorites.

A true escape from London’s crazy fashion retail world. Love the place, so cooly done. Great place for parties, everything really considered. A really great house to entertain in. Take a walk to Ashprington for really good pub food as well as a short ride to the well known Seahorse restaurant in Dartmouth.
