Within a gorgeous luxury development, Poplar House is bright, beautiful and only one of a handful of properties to be built on its own island. How much fun is that! This fabulous, four bedroom home can sleep between 8 and 12 guests, depending on whether you use the children’s rooms to full capacity.

Poplar House is accessed via a small footbridge which leads you to the front door. The house benefits from a lovely westerly facing aspect over the tranquil Howells Mere Lake. Poplar House is built over two floors with open plan living spaces on the ground floor. The house benefits from almost fully glazed side and rear elevations taking full advantage of the sensational lake views. With so much glass, the living spaces are illuminated beautifully and feel light and airy. There are gorgeous, warm wooden floors throughout. The interior is incredibly stylish with wonderful, comfortable furnishings. The decor is mainly white, grey and blue with lovely added colour accents. A variety of sofas, love seats and chairs surround the modern log burner and enjoy the spectacular views. A television and a selection of DVD’s are provided for your entertainment. There is also a small round table, perfect for playing cards or family board games. Close to the kitchen area and with doors to the decked terrace, the dining area also benefits from floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows. This house dazzles in sunlight! The kitchen is fantastic with masses of glossy white cupboards, wonderful appliances and a central island with stools. The whole living space is incredibly social, perfect for large groups. There is also a handy cloakroom which is also home to the washing machine and dryer. The ground floor deck offers alfresco dining with a view and a top-notch gas barbecue.

The bedrooms can be found on the first floor. The spacious master boasts a super kingsize bed, a charming vaulted ceiling, a beautiful ensuite bathroom and a balcony with delightful lake views. There is also a children’s bedroom with bunk beds, a child’s bed and another truckle bed that can be pulled out and used if necessary. The room sleeps four children, though they may enjoy quite a lot of late night chatter! It also boasts an immaculate fully tiled ensuite bathroom. The lakeside king bedroom enjoys a small balcony with lake views. Finally, there is a double bunk high sleeper arrangement. There is a double bed underneath the high sleeper. Again four can sleep here though the high sleeper is only suitable for older children. The smart family shower room to share.

What you should know…

  • One of the bedrooms boasts a set of bunk beds, a child’s bed and a pull-out truckle bed sleeping up to four children. Another room has a double bunk with a double bed and a very high sleeper. Again, this is for youngsters though only older children should sleep on the high sleeper
  • If you would like to discuss activity packages or borrow cots and other baby equipment please speak to our Concierge Team. Please note that there are charges for some of the activities
    There is one allocated parking space at Poplar House. Other cars can be parked in the overflow car park

The House

Lamplight Island is one of only a handful of properties on the Estate to have been built on its own island, as the name suggests! The property is accessed via a small footbridge, located in an enviable position benefitting from a westerly facing aspect over the lake. The house has recently been repainted and offers stylish interiors throughout, complemented by a feature wood-burning stove to the living area, well-appointed kitchen and oak flooring throughout. Accommodating 8 to 12 guests in total.

Poplar House enjoys a very special lakeside location on an island within a gated resort in the heart of the Cotswolds. Just south of Cirencester, guests enjoy many entertainment options within the development as well as being located on the doorstep of fabulous Cotswolds attractions. Villages and towns such as Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Tetbury, Cirencester, Malmesbury and Lacock are all close by and the regency pleasures of Cheltenham and the Georgian glories of Bath are less than twenty miles away.

Bourton-on-the-Water, like most of the Cotswolds, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is the Venice of the Cotswolds with beautiful bridges crossing the River Windrush. Gorgeous cosy cafes line the pretty streets together with houses made with enchanting honey coloured Cotswold stone.

Stow-on-the-Wold is a delightful market town, the highest of the Cotswold towns exposed on the 800 feet high Stow Hill at the crossroads with the Roman Fosse Way. The town boasts a fascinating history. At the height of the Cotswold wool industry, it held annual fairs where as many as 20000 sheep were sold at one time. The Market Square is very attractive with its ancient cross, town stocks and an elegant array of Cotswold town houses and shops. You will find many fine antique shops, art galleries, gift and craft shops.

Tetbury is another historic wool town. It is an architectural gem with many of the wool merchant’s houses remaining the same as they were in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Parish Church of St Mary’s has one of the tallest and most elegant spires in the UK. Tetbury is popular for its independent shops including antique shops, vintage and interior shops, exclusive boutiques and the Highgrove shop. Tetbury holds many regular events including the May Day Wacky Races, the Spring Bank Holiday Woolsack Races when contestants carry 65lb woolsacks up and down the 1 in 4 hill, the August Summer Show, the September Food and Drink Festival, the October Tetbury Music Festival and the Christmas Lights Switch-on.

Close by, visitors can enjoy the stunning botanical experience of the National Arboretum at Westonbirt, the glorious Elizabethan Chavenage House used for many famous films and TV series, the beautiful Arts and Crafts Manor at Rodmarton, the 13th century Lacock Abbey and HRH Prince of Wales’ stunning garden at Highgrove. Local equestrian events such as the Badminton Horse Trials, Gatcombe Festival of British Eventing and Beaufort Polo are all popular.

Poplar House is a perfect destination for a family holiday. Children, and adults alike, enjoy no end to entertainment. It is the ultimate choice for families looking for adventure, fun and healthy competition in a beautiful, natural, outdoors setting. Families can enjoy waterside barbecues, picnics in hundreds of beauty spots or visit the lovely Ballihoo restaurant with its wood-fired pizza oven. The lakeside nature reserve is home to a diverse range of native wildlife including otters, beavers and over 25 species of water birds. Spring brings a huge range of breeding birds including nightingales, cuckoos and cetti’s warblers. The house martin’s arrive in April after an incredible journey from Africa. The children’s playground is great fun and the perfect place to meet new friends.

There is plenty of scope for exploring with bike hire available. There are boats crossing the nine lakes, walking trails along The Thames and around the lakes, BMX bike tracks and forest playgrounds. The Miss Mouse Treasure Trail is perfect for little ones with rewards of Miss Mouse goodie bags. The nature themed soft play in Millstone Park offers the perfect indoor play space if the weather is not so good. Millstone Park offers a volley ball court, two tennis courts and a 3G artificial turf multi-use games area. Older children can become Eco Explorers. There are watersports lessons in sailing, wind surfing and paddle boarding. Katakanu hire is available, an un-capsizable fun craft for young and old as well as canoe and kayak hire. Paddle board fun takes place around the hidden island in Minety Lake with plenty of games and challenges. Children will be awarded certificates. During peak times and school holidays there are Kids Clubs where activities include raft building, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, rounders, cricket, table tennis and lots more. Once the sun has gone down, the days do not end as children can explore the woods, gaze at the stars and enjoy delicious hot chocolate and marshmallows around the fire.

Outside of the resort there are plenty of other family friendly attractions. The Cotswold Wildlife Park is a family favourite set in 160 acres of parkland and gardens. The park is home to a huge selection of mammals, birds, reptiles and invertebrates from all over the world.

The friendly Cotswold Farm Park boasts an unrivalled group of British farm rare breeds including sheep, cattle, pigs, goats, horses, poultry and waterfowls. There are farm safari rides, an indoor tractor school, an adventure playground, indoor soft play, a farm nature trail and enchanting seasonal demonstrations such as lambing in the spring.

Birdland at Bourton-on-the-Water is set in nine beautiful acres of gardens and woodland. It offers over 500 exotic and rare birds from around the world in natural aviaries and waterside habitats. Children enjoy close encounters with flamingos, colourful parrots, laughing kookaburras, birds of prey, pelican, owls and more. They can meet the penguins at Penguin Shore and watch the feeding demonstrations. They can also follow the Ranger’s trail armed with special dinosaur tracker kits to find the 30 different dinosaurs. The Birdland Nursery is very endearing where children can watch eggs hatching and chicks taking their first steps.

Other popular attractions include Cirencester’s Corinium Museum and Elemental Sculpture Park, Cotswold Country Park at Shorncote, the Tolsey Museum at Burford, the National Trust’s Newark Park and Snowshill Manor and Garden. The list is endless!

Security deposit £500 charged to client’s credit card by the owner before/upon arrival and refunded two weeks after departure, subject to full inspection.

End of stay cleaning included? Yes. However, guests are required to leave the accommodation clean, tidy and in the same condition as on their arrival. Any extra cleaning, laundry, maintenance and/or rubbish disposal required will be charged against the security deposit.
