April showers getting you down? The cold and wet British winter seems to last an eternity and, as usual, spring is taking its time to arrive. It’s no surprise that we’re craving somewhere (anywhere!) warmer than here, so we’ve chosen 6 sizzling destinations so you can scout out where’s hot in April.

What to do: Turkey’s Mediterranean climate means a sunny and pleasantly warm April perfect for travelling tourists. Whether you’re looking to hike the mountains or sunbathe on one of the many beautiful beaches, Turkey is an ideal escape from the Great British April showers. Home to two of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and a luxurious cuisine, you can expect a trip full of cultural enrichment.

What to do: If you’re on the hunt for sun, sea and sand Lanzarote has you covered. April is the ideal time to visit Lanzarote as the summer rush hasn’t yet begun but the weather is comfortably warm (unlike the scorching summer sun!). If lounging on the gorgeous beaches isn’t your cup of tea, why not hop on a surfboard, climb a volcano or enjoy the island’s lively nightlife! Oh, and don’t forget the local cuisine… fresh seafood and indulgent puddings are aplenty and the local people will be delighted to introduce you to their specialties! For something different, try the colourful local parrot fish.

Kos, Greece

What to do: April marks the start of the warm season in Kos and rainfall dramatically decreases (ideal, ey!). From sandy beach paradise to fascinating ancient ruins, this harbour town is not one to be missed. The rolling vineyards mean wine galore and the rugged wilderness make it a perfect destination for walking trails. Kids will love the wandering peacocks and families can get involved in numerous water-sports activities. This will definitely be a contender for your Easter holiday trip!

What to do: If you’re looking for a warm retreat not too far from home, the Costa Del Sol will not disappoint. As the weather begins to get warmer and sunnier in April, you can expect a celebration of sun. Hosting exciting local fiestas in April, why not get involved in some real authentic Spanish fun? Although it’ll be warm, there is a chance of a few rainy days so keep aside a few indoor day trips just in case. The Pablo Picasso museum is a must-see or enjoy some indulgent wine-tasting.

Albufeira, Portugal

What to do: One of the sunniest regions in Europe, Albufeira begins warming up in April. Amble down charming cobbled streets, walk along golden sandy beaches or get involved in some exciting local activities. Hop on a boat trip to enjoy dolphin-watching or take the plunge and try out some diving in the marina. Although full of brilliant restaurants and upmarket bars, Albufeira is also home to a busy nightlife strip so party-goers can really let their hair down!

Orlando, Florida


Weather: Max 29°(avg.) Min 17°(avg.)

What to do: While we may be wishing for sun, our friends over the pond definitely don’t need to. Hot all year round, Orlando is the perfect place to take the kids during the Easter holidays. Plus, April is the driest season so you won’t need to pack a raincoat. Home to theme parks galore – including Walt Disney Resort – the little ones will be thrilled. But there’s more to Orlando than just roller coasters! Brilliant museums, sandy beaches and delicious food all contribute to a fantastic Florida break. So pack your sun cream and get ready for a whole lot of fun this April!
