It can be easy to get stuck in the chocolate and flowers routine on Mother’s Day – especially if your mum actually really likes chocolate and flowers! This year though, maybe it’s time to take things up a notch. Rent a luxury chateau in France and whisk your mum away for some well-earned rest and relaxation – still with plenty of chocolate, of course. Spend a weekend enjoying some quality time together, or make it a family affair by inviting your siblings to come along too. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Chill on the Cote d’Azur
Although Mothering Sunday is technically in spring, there’s no guarantee of sunshine back in the UK. Treat your mum to some revitalising rays by jetting her off to the swanky French Riviera for a few days. With over forty windows, the south facing Palmes D’or is perfect for basking – and the beach on the doorstep means that very little further planning is required. If you can tear yourself away, Villefranche-sur-Mer’s picturesque old town is the perfect setting for an afternoon wandering between shops, cafés and markets.
Bouquets in Bordeaux
Ideal for mums who know their wine, a trip to Bordeaux provides the chance to pick up a few bottles of the best. Treat her to the tastes of this revered region by joining the weekly wine and cheese tasting from the local tourist office, or take a regional cooking class at Le Chapon Fin. Once you’ve drunk as much Bordeaux as you can handle, meander back to Chateau Montstruce and enjoy a lengthy walk in the countryside, before settling in for the evening with a few good books – and several good bottles.
