Rumour has it, that in 2050 there’ll be more plastic in the ocean than fish. That’s a pretty bleak statistic, right? Thankfully, companies across the globe are creating innovative products in the fight against climate change and plastic waste. Gift the travel-lovers in your life something green like this new backpack solar charger, that gives TLC back to the world they love travelling in.

We guarantee they’ll love at least one of these eco-friendly gifts (you might even want to pick up one or two for yourself!)…

Pela phone case

Biodegradable, good for the planet and downright stylish. The guys at Pela are tackling the issue of plastic pollution head on with their collection of compostable phone cases.

It’s not just bottles they’re doing either, they’ve got flexi straws and bowls, too!

Pang Wangle’s Journey Scarf

This is the scarf you never knew you needed. What looks like an ordinary, run-of-the-mill scarf actually has a variety of purposes: a bug repelling, lightweight wearing, essential storing (there’s a hidden zipper pocket!) scarf made from recycled materials in a solar-powered facility.

Cotopaxi Bag from their Del Día Collection

Cotopaxi is a certified B corporation, meaning they’re truly ethical – and they’ve got the ethos to prove it. Donating 1% of its annual revenue to the Cotopaxi Foundation, the company is focused on fair labour and helping disadvantaged communities. Their Del Día collection is made in the Philippines, using re-purposed material. They’re all one-of-a-kind, with colours and designs left totally up to the person who sews it!

Reveal’s Bamboo Solar-Powered Bluetooth Speaker

Looks good, sounds great and is good to the planet – this speaker ticks all the boxes! It’s made of natural bamboo, runs on solar power, has a battery life of 15 hours (great for long days on the beach!) and even doubles up as a portable charger! And if that wasn’t enough, for every speaker sold, a tree is planted. Listening to music never felt so good.

Scrubba Wash Bag

Hikers, backpackers, and campers – rejoice! This Scrubba Wash Bag is its own little washing machine… yes, really. All you need to do is pop your clothes in the bag with some water and cleaning liquid, then scrub it all together (there’s a flexible washboard inside!) and rinse. The team at Scrubba also donate money to provide clean water to disadvantaged communities around the world – clean clothes providing clean water… we love it!

Kindle’s have been on the market for a while, but if you’ve got a friend/family member who loves reading and hasn’t quite transitioned from paper books to digital, this could be the ideal gift! Eliminating the bulky nuisance of books in a backpack, sand in pages or the effort of turning pages while attempting to sunbathe, the Kindle makes reading on the move easy peasy.

Here at Oliver’s Travels we’re working hard to become more sustainable, with the goal of becoming a carbon-neutral villa company. You can find out more about our planet-loving projects here
