Nestled in the traditional fishing village of Seseh, inside a beautiful walled garden lies gorgeous Villa Belong Dua. Part of a large complex yet with its own private space, the villa is made up of a set of five individual pavilions that have been designed and arranged according to ancient cosmology. Symbolic elements of Balinese spirituality are interspersed with modern luxury and stunning interior design.

Outside, an emerald swimming pool awaits you, jewel-bright and shimmering. Trees surround it from all sides, while the pool is guarded by a symbolic carved stone statue. A manicured lawn envelops the jewel-bright pool and here you'll also find the bale gede, which means 'relaxation pavilion'.

Inside, there are supremely cosy antique day beds from the Gianyar Regency to unwind on and this area is the perfect spot for a traditional massage from a talented spa therapist. The staff at this property are fantastic, especially the talented chef. Enjoy a delicious Asian or Western feast or even a seafood barbecue, or if you feel like home cooking the kitchen is well stocked with all the mod cons and smart polished concrete surfaces.

The two charming colonial-style wooden bedrooms have high vaulted roofs and hardwood floors, while king size beds are dressed in delicate canopies and sumptuous textiles. Decorative bell jar lanterns add ambience and the veranda with seating provides the perfect spot to take a deep breath and enjoy the dazzling views. Ensuites of sculpted terrazzo bathtubs and a luxurious outdoor rain shower are hidden away within a private walled courtyard.

The living pavilion is open on three sides, allowing air and light to flow freely around the property. The villa is mainly decorated in a neutral colour scheme with lots of wood, interspersed with flashes of zingy citrus colours. There's a media room with satellite LCD TV and a DVD player, although this room can also be utilised as a study if required.

The villa is ideal for those who want to get under the skin of Balinese Hinduism, get lost in island life and the beauty of Bali's rolling countryside.

In the quintessentially Balinese village of Seseh, this villa is absolutely ideal if you're looking for an authentic experience and to discover the real Bali. Historically, the village was very significant in the 18th century when it became home to the former Kingdom of Mengwi. It was also an important trading port for the Chinese many years ago. Locals greet tourists visiting the area with warmth and sincerity.

Nowadays, the village has kept the traditional customs and culture of old Bali. Rice is farmed in the same way it has been harvested for generations, fishing boats return at dawn with the night's catch.

Significant cultural processions in heritage dress attend important ceremonies at the region's sea temples. Ask the villa to go on a sunrise fishing expedition with a local fisherman in his jukung - a traditional boat - and ask the chef to cook your catch for a tasty lunch.

Arguably the best way to explore the lush green rice fields is by bicycle. There are four bikes and helmets available to borrow at the villa, so take some time to get lost among the greenery. Seseh and Pererenan are also charming places to explore on two wheels. In Canggu, take a trip down the Shortcut, a beautiful path through rice plantations. Just be careful when you move to the side to let others pass, or you might end up in the locals' book of falls!

Discover stunning beaches including Echo, Batu Bolong and Seseh. A beach day is always a winner in Bali, especially if it involves surfing!

Bali's beaches draw surfers from around the world due to the warm seas, year-round surf and excellent reef breaks. Learn to surf in three days on a specially designed masterclass - you'll be ready to hang ten on Bali's world-class breaks in no time! Echo beach is popular with locals and tourists alike for a sundowner, while Batu Bolong has bewitching black sand.

Bali is known as the 'Island of the Gods' and after visiting some of the mesmerising temples, you'll find out why. A religious site perched high atop a wave-lashed rock formation, it's believed that the temple here protects Bali from evil sea spirits. Pura Tanah Lot is also a popular spot for sunset. To truly observe the power of the sea temple, visit early in the morning where you can witness a local offering ceremony.

Take a day trip to Bedagul, where you'll find Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, a Hindu sea temple on the shoreline of Lake Bratan. This sea temple is so picturesque and historically, worshippers gave offerings to the river goddess Dewi Danu to keep the river thriving for irrigation. Take a boat trip out here and enjoy the serene atmosphere.

Bali Island Horse is a must visit for horse lovers - whether you're a keen rider or want a taster riding lesson, this great centre has got you covered. Take a beach ride on Yeh Gagga, weaving through the powdery sand, or visit a local village fringed with rice paddies. This company also organise ATV and dirt bike tours for those craving a more high-octane adventure.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Bali is such a special place to take children of all ages - the legendary hospitality of Balinese people definitely extends to the smaller members of the family. Plenty of activities - from bike rides to beaches - await younger guests, and there's a dizzying array of food for children to try all over the island. They'll be able to sample foods like nasi goreng, pisan goreng and the famous exotic fruits.

The rice terraces are a beautiful sight to behold and children will love whizzing through on a bicycle in between acres of lush greenery, meeting locals and trying delicious snacks along the way. Bali's beaches are always a winner with children and Echo beach is no exception. In the day, they can watch surfers dart in and out of the waves and enjoy the glorious sunset in the evening.

The villa itself is well kitted out for families with kids. The pool has a special shallow area to help them get in an out of the pool when they're splashing around, and there are plenty of pool toys. Also at their disposal are board games, books and inside toys. Inside, children have all the technology they need to stay connected with friends back home while relaxing in the harmonious spaces around the villa.

Bali Treetop Adventure Park in Bedugal, close to Lake Bratan is an ideal day trip for those with little ones in tow. An adrenaline-fuelled park with five adventure circuits, the heights vary from 2m to 20m. Kids will love flying through the trees on the Tarzan jumps and soaring along 12 exhilarating flying fox ziplines.

Mini nature lovers should check out Bali Sea Turtle Society. This society works with local communities to protect endangered sea turtles and release them back into the wild - this is an excellent activity for children to learn about marine life from experienced professionals.

Asia's number one waterpark, Waterbom is also immensely popular with families. Kids can try out a huge range of adrenalin-pumping and gentler water slides including The Climax, with its jaw-dropping 360-degree loop. It's bound to put a smile on their faces.

Parents won't need to bring all their baby equipment from home, as the villa has baby cots and high chairs ready for visiting little ones.
