Overview

Pool Modern Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach

Graceful and grid-like in its design, Villa Halie is a charming hideaway with incredible sea views and its very own fortification walls. Made up of a series of cubes that come together to create a crisp Mediterranean haven, it's perfect for those who love simple yet stylish design. Situated in the peaceful village of Gennadi, this villa is great for those who want to get away from it all.

There's a square-shaped aquamarine pool large enough for the whole family to swim in peace. After a busy day exploring Rhodes, a refreshing dip in this pool will be a welcome respite from the summer sunshine. There are sunbeds to relax on after your swim and get stuck into that holiday novel. The stone fortification wall provides some shade and privacy, as well as a glimpse of medieval Grecian architecture.

A grid of manicured lawn bordered with a row of plants is an ideal spot for a poolside picnic, or for those who love to barbecue, there's an enviable set up on the terrace. Make your own version of Greek kebabs, and gather around the charming dining table for an alfresco feast, shaded by the ceiling.

The living room is elegantly furnished with a stylish coffee table and shelves, and a dove grey sofa is peppered with blue and green sea-inspired scatter cushions. It's the perfect place for some downtime. Airy and open plan, there is also an indoor dining area by the kitchen, which is well equipped for self-caterers, including a microwave and even a dishwasher.

The three tranquil bedrooms sleep up to six guests. Decorated in a neutral colour scheme, the rooms have double beds with fluffy pillows and peach blankets, with framed art on the shelves. For those who love to pack lots of options, there are huge wardrobes to keep everything organised. There are televisions in the corner of the rooms for watching a movie before bed or some background noise.

Ensuite bathrooms at this villa are a lovely highlight in terms of design. Chic swirly marble tiles are offset with white and silver fixtures. All bathrooms have luxurious showers, and one even has a hot tub inside - so the lucky guests in this room can have their very own spa getaway!

Ideally placed in the picturesque area of Gennadi, in the south of Rhodes, this villa is tucked away on a hillside with a local atmosphere. Rhodes is the largest and most well known of the Dodecanese Islands - it is so alluring for visitors and enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year!

The most famous attraction in Gennadi is the beach, a seemingly endless 6km stretch of golden sand - you'll have no trouble finding a great peaceful spot for a swim in the impossibly blue sea. Take a stroll or catch a sunset here with a drink from one of the beach bars. For a more lively beach with watersports aplenty, try nearby Kiotari beach and try out a pedalo or even a jet ski!

There are traditional Greek tavernas around Gennadi, where guests can tuck into some tasty moussaka - layers of minced meat and tomato sauce with aubergine and creamy bechamel sauce, baked like a lasagne. Another dish to try is souvlaki, which is skewered meat and sometimes vegetables, grilled to perfection.

A beautiful church to visit is Church of St. Anastasia the Roman - white and steepled on the outside, with countless religious imagery on the arched ceiling and walls, colourful and intricate. Grand chandeliers dangle gracefully from the magnificent ceiling inside.

The villa is just a short drive from Lindos, where the narrow winding streets contain handicrafts, jewellers and charming boutiques. The main highlight is the Lindos Acropolis, also known as the ancient citadel, perched high on a clifftop. From here, take in the captivating views of traditional houses and pebbled courtyards. In this area, you'll find the ruins of the Knight's Lodge as well as the Temple of Athena Lindia and a 20 column walkway. Many of the houses and monuments in this area are protected as Hellenic cultural heritage sites. For souvenirs, why not pick up some local honey, olive oil or wine?

A lovely day trip is to the famous Seven Springs nature park, a magical landscape wrapped in dense greenery. The clear springs cascade gently into a small lake, where water flows all year round, and visitors can swim in the lake. If you don't mind small spaces, you can navigate a narrow tunnel in the park - though the hill route is beautiful - and families can enjoy a gentle walk through the park together surrounded by flocks of peacocks, ducks and geese.

Rhodes is sometimes known as the 'Island of the Knights' as it was occupied by the Roman Empire, then the Byzantine, followed by the Ottomans. Therefore, the island is a melting pot of culture and architecture to this day, especially in the Old Town. Surrounded by fortified walls, the Old Town entrance is guarded through seven gates.

Through the Freedom Gate, you'll discover the Palace of the Grand Master, which also has captivating views and a museum of Rhodian history. The New Town showcases gorgeous Art Deco architecture, particularly the Evangelismos Cathedral, with its intricate frescoes.

A quirky fact about Rhodes is that lots of cute and friendly cats roam the island freely - see how many you can count!

The Island/Getting There

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It’s got a lot of history as it’s been invaded a lot by the Persians, Carians, Ottomans, Italians, and Germans.

Average temperatures go from 20’c in April up to 30’c in July/ August and down to 20’c in November. With an average of 85 rainy days a year they get sunshine for around 280 days.

The island is 90km long with Rhodes town at the northern tip. The airport (Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras") is also in the North (15km from Rhodes Town). Charter flights and Easyjet operate direct from the UK all season and out of season (Nov-March) you’d need to fly via Athens.

The Acropolis – The Acropolis that sits high above the town of Lindos is absolutely amazing and is a must see if you’re looking for some of the best views in all of Rhodes. One thing I should mention is that the climb up to the acropolis requires you to be somewhat active and able to climb stairs, lots of them. The trail begins through town and slowly but surely starts to get steeper as you climb the hill towards the acropolis. Once there, you’re rewarded with historical buildings dating back to 300 BC. Our Villa Corteau sit just underneath the ruins.

Rhodes has over 40 beaches, here are a few:

  • Anthony Quinn’s Bay – Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the most beautiful bays. The bay is located 17km (10 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and offers some incredible photo opportunities to say the least.
  • The beach at Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the best beaches in Rhodes. Get there early if you want to snag a sunbed and umbrella and enjoy wading around the bright blue and green water. Amazing!
  • For the best views of Anthony Quinn’s Bay from above, head on up to the windy road that leads up the hill just north of the bay and you’ll find a spot where you can sit and enjoy the virtually 180 degree views of Rhodes and its coastline.
  • Tsambika Beach (or Tsampika) –  Tsampika beach is located 30km (18 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and is a great place to spend the day in the sun.  Note: Beware there is a small section where nudists congregate on Tsampika beach
  • Lakido Beach – Just opposite Anthony Quinn’s Bay is Lakido beach. It’s literally 3 minutes walking distance from Anthony Quinn’s bay so visiting both beaches in a day is totally doable. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend visiting both if you get the chance
  • Faliraki Beach – One of the most popular tourist spots on the island of Rhodes. It was known for 18-30’s holiday in the 90-2000’s but I don’t think there is that market so much now. It is quite commercialised now there are water sports and a few diving schools.

How to reach Rhodes island

There are two ways to reach Rhodes Island: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane: If you don’t want to lose time you can fly to Rhodes (RHO) from Athens. The flight lasts 1 hour. Many direct flights also operate from many European countries, so it will not be difficult to arrive there.

By ferry: If you choose to travel from Piraeus to Rhodes with a ferry, it will surely take you much longer but travelling with a ferry in the summer nights can be pretty enticing! The port of Rhodes is located in the southern part of the island and offers bus services to the town centre. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

A holiday in Rhodes will be an unforgettable and mesmerising experience for children. Locals adore interacting with children and spoiling them with extra treats in tavernas and little shops. Kids are bound to enjoy trying out tasty Grecian cuisine, especially moussaka and spanokopita, a filo pastry parcel containing spinach, feta cheese and onions or scallions.

The superb water park in Faliraki, 45km from the villa, is hugely popular with children. The thrilling aqua park boasts a range of water slides, artificial waves and pool games. Open during the summer months, there's a lovely party atmosphere and plenty of space to chill out with some refreshments by the pool.

Another family-friendly activity in the nearby area is the Valley of the Butterflies, a peaceful 600-acre nature park known as a 'summer home' for butterflies, including some rare species. Take a gentle stroll through the valley with colourful butterflies swooping around. Little ones are bound to be enamoured by the experience. The Seven Springs is also a great place to take children - it's peaceful and fantastic for a walk and a swim in the lake surrounded by the springs.

The villa itself is a welcoming and tranquil place for children to enjoy. The pool provides them with plenty of space to splash around and show off their swimming skills, and they'll adore a family barbecue. Inside, the villa is homely and has comfortable sofas to relax on and watch a movie.
