Pool Modern Beach Nearby Walk to Village

The delightful Villa Apollo enjoys gorgeous sea views from its splendid hillside location close to the village of Pelekas and just moments from the wonderful Pelekas Beach. The villa is one of five private villas on a small complex surrounded by lush nature. It enjoys, privacy, tranquility and sensational panoramic views of the Ionian Sea.

Pelekas is a delightful village with a good array of tavernas, cafes and shops. Its summit boasts some of the most spectacular sunset views that Corfu offers. From the Kaisers Lookout you can see much of Corfu. Pelekas Beach is superb with a wonderful choice of watersports on offer plus plenty of sun loungers, parasols and friendly tavernas. This authentic and picturesque area is an excellent choice for families looking for a relaxing break. Villa Apollo’s private location makes it the perfect cosy hideaway and a fabulous base for exploring this magical island.

Villa Apollo is comprised of two very similar apartments, each with two bedrooms, an open plan living space and a bathroom. Each of the apartments is ideal for a small family so Villa Apollo would be perfect for two families wanting to enjoy a holiday together or perhaps a family with grandparents in tow. Both apartments share the glorious outdoor space which includes a private swimming pool, alfresco dining and lounge spaces, a built-in barbecue and a fabulous garden. It is a fabulous arrangement where guests enjoy a little private time as well as sharing their time relaxing and exploring Corfu.

The top apartment boasts two bedrooms, a bathroom and an open plan living space. One of the bedrooms offers a comfy double bed and the other has twin beds. They share a smart, well-maintained, fully-tiled bathroom with a bath and a overhead shower. Under a characterful wooden vaulted ceiling, the open plan living room is very bright and airy, being drowned in natural light through the wall of glass doors. It offers comfy sofas, a television and coffee table, a dining space and a modern kitchen. The sofas are actually sofa beds should you want to sleep another two guests. The doors open to a spacious balcony furnished with another dining table and chairs, perfect for breakfast in the sunshine or an evening glass of chilled wine while you watch the sun go down. The views down to Pelekas Beach and across the hillside greenery are totally captivating.

With access to the beautiful gardens and a terrace, the ground floor apartment also enjoys an open plan living space. Again, the sofa can sleep extra guests if required plus there is an extra bed in one of the bedrooms. A modern kitchen sits in the corner of the living space with a dining table next to it. Doors open to both the garden and the terrace for alfresco dining. The master double bedroom enjoys a kingsize bed and also opens directly to the terrace. The second bedroom offers a warm colour palette. It shares a smart bathroom with a large walk-in shower with the other guests.

All guests share the outside space which includes the fabulous 10m x 5m swimming pool. There is a built-in barbecue that your barbecue masters will enjoy together with another shaded alfresco dining area. The gardens are glorious with plenty of space for young children to play. The pool is surrounded by loungers which can be moved so that they are under the pergolas if it is too hot.

Villa Apollo enjoys a lovely hillside position just above Pelekas Beach. There are a handful of friendly tavernas serving delicious local food. The delightful village of Pelekas is set on a rocky hill surrounded by lush greenery on the west coast of Corfu and only 12 kilometres from Corfu Town. Villa Apollo is located just below the village. Above the village is the Kaisers Lookout where Kaiser Wilhelm II frequently visited to admire the spectacular sunsets off the west coast. The peak enjoys majestic views of the evergreen north and east sides of the island, the rugged south west coast and the crystal clear Ionian Sea. Pelekas village boasts several tavernas and cafes plus plenty of shops. A bus runs from the village’s main square to Pelekas Beach. Not far from Pelekas is the renowned 18 hole par 72 golf course in the lush Ropa Valley. Equipment rental is available. Pelekas Beach is a miniature version of Glyfada Beach with fine golden sand and a good array of watersports. Pelekas is fringed by the natural beauty of timeless olive groves, a beautiful area where you will easily relax.

The nearby Glyfada Beach offers buzzy bars, restaurants and watersports. Gialiskari Beach is a tranquil small sandy bay sprinkled with huge rocks and pine trees offering shade. There are a few tavernas serving traditional Greek food. Another beautiful beach is Myrtiotissa, surrounded by pine trees and rocks, a perfect choice for nature lovers.

Corfu Town is one of the most attractive old towns of Greece and the birthplace of the late Duke of Edinburgh. Falling between two great Venetian coastal fortresses, it is a maze of cobbled narrow streets brimming with elegant mansions, magnificent palaces, beautiful squares and no fewer than thirty nine churches including the beautiful Church of Saint Spiridon. The Duke of Edinburgh was born at the fabulous Mon Repos Palace. Next to the palace gardens you will find the calm waters of the Mon Repos Beach. The town’s stunning architecture has many influences including Sicilian, Venetian, French and English. The entire Old Town is declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, a tightly-packed warren of cobbled winding lanes bursting with lively bars, boutiques and fine restaurants. You will also see timeless alleys with the day’s washing stretching from balcony to balcony, such a pretty scene, especially with colourful bougainvillea draped everywhere. You will discover shops and stalls selling local items such as wild honey, fig cakes and handmade lace. There are also some interesting museums including the Byzantine Museum of Corfu which is housed in a 15th century church. Others are the Museum of Ceramic Art, the D Solomos Museum and the Asian Art Museum.

South of Pelekas you will find the splendid Agios Gordios Beach, one of the most popular beaches on Corfu. It took its name from the Church of Agios Gordios which is located literally on the sea, at the centre of the beach. This beautiful cove is nestled amongst the lush green mountain and surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and rocks. A huge rock, the Ortholithi, emerges from the sea. Agios Gordios offers a stunning landscape, it is no surprise that it is so popular.

Further south still is Chalikounas Beach with its sensational, golden sands, the crystal clear deep blue waters of the Ionian Sea and the natural beauty of the protected Lake Korission. The beach enjoys a couple of beach tavernas and organised sections with sun loungers and umbrellas. There is a kite club in the middle section of the beach where you can learn to kitesurf. Visitors enjoy strolling along the full stretch of the 2.5 km beach or taking a wander around the shimmering Lake Korission. The lake is a coastal lagoon separated from the sea by the fabulous Chalikounas Beach. The lagoon was created by the sand dunes that cut the lake’s basin off from the sea. Lake Korission is over 5 km long from one end to the other and roughly 1.5 km at its widest. The lake is home to native and migrating birds including seagulls, owls, buzzards, swallows and if you are lucky, flamingoes.

On the east coast, Gouvia is a charming, former fishing village which is now a modern holiday resort with plenty of amenities for all ages. It boasts a pretty pebble beach and a stunning marina. It also offers many atmospheric restaurants, bars and cafes along the main street of the village. Its 18th century shipyard is still remarkably intact. The views from Gouvia are stunning with the sparkling Ionian Sea and Corfu Town on the horizon.

For a completely different, non-water based day you can head to the majestic Mount Pantokrator. It is the highest peak in Corfu and dominates the island’s northeast region. It boasts the most amazing views of the whole of Corfu Island. On a clear day you can even see Albania and Italy even though Italy is 130km away! You can drive or hike to the mountain top, stopping at traditional Greek villages on the way. The zigzagging mountain road starts halfway between Ipsos and Barbati Beach passing through Spartilas and Strinilas, one of the island’s highest villages. You can enjoy delicious local moscato wine from one of the village’s taverns. If you want to hike to the top you can start at the 14th century village of Old Perithia. It is a 3 hour round trip through thick forests, olive groves and rocky terrain. At the top you can visit the 17th century monastery.

In Corfu Town, children enjoy climbing the walls of the Old Fortress, the Venetian fort built in the 15th century and the New Fortress. The fortresses boast fantastic views of the turquoise waters. Also in Corfu Town, you can take a trip in Kalypso Star, the glass-bottomed boat that leaves the harbour to explore the Ionian Sea’s fascinating marine life. A 10 minute boat trip from Corfu Town takes you to the tiny island of Vidos where you can enjoy feeding the rabbits, seeing the peacocks, swimming and having lunch at the charming taverna.
