Villa Plaka Gina is every bit as stunning as the phenomenal seascape it sits in front of. This sensational, newly built villa occupies a prestigious spot in Plaka enjoying breathtaking, uninterrupted views across the glistening Elounda Gulf to the island of Spinalonga. With fabulous amenities, six spectacular bedroom suites and superb, contemporary entertaining spaces, this villa is perfect for up to twelve guests wanting to enjoy extraordinary scenery, luxurious, modern living and wonderful peace and serenity. Villa Plaka Gina is beautifully finished throughout with extraordinary attention to detail and sumptuous, contemporary furnishings. Its warm stone exterior blends harmoniously against the hilly backdrop. The villa’s three storeys are set gently into the hilly slope making full use of the outstanding panorama. Villa Plaka Gina sits with two of our other villas, Villa Plaka Danae and Villa Plaka Dimitra, each enjoying total privacy and seclusion. This villa’s stylish interior is by far the most contemporary and trendy of the three.

The pretty village of Plaka is located in the Mirabello Bay, opposite Spinalonga and 16km north of Agios Nikolaos. Plaka was originally a quaint fishing village which offered access to Spinalonga Island when it was a colony for lepers. Now it is a sophisticated, peaceful resort with natural beauty and spectacular views. Hikers enjoy the numerous caves around the mountains. Plaka offers a good selection of seaside bars and restaurants and is in close proximity to the cosmopolitan, buzzy town of Elounda. Elounda and Plaka host two of the most important archaeological sites in Crete, the sunken city of Olous and the Venetian Fortress of Spinalonga Island.

Villa Plaka Gina boasts a very spacious, ground floor, open plan living space. It most definitely has the wow factor with its sumptuous, contemporary furnishings that all blend so well together. The enormous Aegean blue corner sofa sits below a stunning bird in flight light and another striking artwork. The sofa is adorned with scatter cushions, all with stunning shell designs, matching the seaside theme throughout the villa. It is clear to see that every piece of furniture and artwork has been handpicked to create a very striking look. The huge dining table boasts gorgeous wooden chairs with the same Aegean blue upholstery which also matches the chef’s dream of a kitchen. With a very generous range of blue cabinetry topped with quality, glossy worktops, a huge wine fridge to keep your week’s supply of delicious wine chilled, top-of-the-range appliances and a very sociable island with stools, this kitchen delights the most discerning of chefs.

The villa boasts six heavenly bedroom suites that will keep your soul, body and mind relaxed and content. They are contemporary wonders with gorgeous, huge beds adorned with luxury linens, sumptuous soft furnishings and accessories and luxurious, Italian marble en-suite bathrooms. Each of the bathrooms offer a fabulous spa experience where you will feel totally pampered. They offer the very best of fittings including jacuzzi baths alongside brilliant design. Four of the bedroom suites open out onto a garden oasis and the remaining two swap garden views for private balconies with breathtaking, panoramic sea vistas.

The meticulous design of the interiors is matched by what you will discover outside. The shaded outdoor kitchen and bar area is superb. It is open-sided to offer the astounding views delivered from almost every angle in the villa. It is a brilliant place to pop a cork and drink a toast to the holiday highlife. The outdoor kitchen boasts some incredible appliances where you can cook up a storm to eat alfresco on the terrace. The gorgeous infinity swimming pool is surrounded by luxury loungers and other chic furnishings. On the lower ground level, guests enjoy a delightful internal garden which leads to an excellent children’s play area. The designers of Villa Plaka Gina have thought of everything to ensure that you enjoy a dream holiday.

It is just a short stroll into the charming little village of Plaka. Its warm hospitality and quintessential Greek vibe will ensure that your holiday memories last for a very long time.

Villa Plaka Gina is located in a very prestigious spot in Plaka. Nestled at the base of the hills, the villa is waterfront with astounding panoramic views across the Elounda Gulf to the island of Spinalonga. Plaka is picturesque, very traditional and very friendly. You will receive such a warm welcome at the tavernas and restaurants. Plaka is located in the Apokoronas region of of Crete, 2km from Almirida, a resort it overlooks. There are some fabulous walks around the village, through olive groves or to the next villages of Kampia and Kokkino Chorio. The pebbly beach is delightful with a promenade and backed by tamarisk trees.

The island of Spinalonga has a fascinating, if sad, history. The name of Spinalonga was given by the Venetians. Spina means ‘thorn’ and longa means ‘long’. In the 20th century (1903 -1957) Spinalonga was used as a leper colony. The lepers used a tunnel known as ‘Dante’s Gate’ in order to enter the island. Once on the island, the patients received food, water and medical attention. For half a century, this barren rocky island was a home to life’s outcasts who lived in extreme pain. As science progressed and a cure for leprosy was discovered, the lepers were cured and the hospital shut down in 1957. Nowadays, the island is uninhabited. It is a recognised archaeological site with one of the few examples of Venetian fortress building in Eastern Mediterranean. It is a popular tourist attraction with boats leaving from Plaka, Elounda and Agios Nikolaos.

Elounda is an upmarket little resort on the island’s emerald-swept coast. Elounda is very popular with the rich and famous for its seaside luxury resorts. Greece’s ex Prime Minister spent his summers in Elounda and it is frequently visited by the royal family of Saudi Arabia. Elounda was used for the filming of the BBC television series ‘Who Pays the Ferryman?’ and is featured in Victoria Hislop’s ‘The Island’. This superb seaside town revolves around its colourful harbour and the main square. You will discover plenty of authentic Greek tavernas and friendly bars as well as a wonderful, Blue Flag sandy beach. The quieter Driros Beach is a 15 minute walk south along the coastal path. If you are walking south you will also come to the remains of the submerged ancient city of Olous. Five huge stone windmills were excavated and today they stand next to the bridge and are open to the public. If you take a 30 minute drive, you can wander freely amongst the ruins of the Minoan Palace of Malia dating back to 1450 BC.

Crete is mountainous with a high range crossing from west to east. The island also boasts numerous gorges which are amazing to visit such as the Samaria Gorge, the Imbros Gorge and the Kourtaliotiko Gorge. The island is Greek’s fifth largest island so you will not be able to see everything in one holiday! There are some sublime beaches, some of which are on the other side of the island. There are a number of islands, islets and rocks that hug the coast. The big cities are Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, Lerapetra, Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. The island’s archaeological sites include the Minoan sites of Knossos, Malia and Phaistos. The island offers a fabulous range of activities and adventures. There are unique beaches, canyons, falls, trekking, kayaking and many watersports. Crete is a very friendly island and the food is absolutely delicious. You will have a ball

Villa Plaka Gina is perfect for a family holiday. It is so spacious that maybe two families could take a holiday together or a multi-generational family. Children adore the swimming pool and children’s playground.

There are so many fabulous beaches to try. Plaka’s own beach is lovely though it is pebbly so you may want to go down the road to Elounda where it is very sandy. Another excellent beach is Kolokithia which is brilliant for snorkelling.

Children love taking boat trips so a trip over to Spinalonga is a must. The trips can be taken from Plaka, Elounda or Agios Nikolaos. Minos Boats in Plaka offer bike hire and watersports. Children love snorkelling in the beautiful Elounda waters.

During the summer months, families can explore the local area on the Happy Train. The guides are really knowledgeable and bring the whole trip alive. You can take the train from Plaka and stop at the church looking out at Spinalonga, where the guide will explain about the island and how Plaka was linked to it. The train sets off up the hill, stopping at an amazing viewing point for photos. You will stop at various villages and churches. It is great fun.

Agios Nikolaos is the busiest place around with much entertainment for children. You can visit the Cretan Olive Oil Farm where you can explore its products. You will experience the way they produce traditional Cretan products such as olive oil, wine, raki and pottery in a unique environment. It is fun and educational! The Crete Semi Submarine in Agios Nikolaos offers views of an exciting world below the surface. Children enjoy observing the magnificent marine life through the 28 windows of the submarine and hearing interesting information. There are also many watersports companies with diving, kayaking and snorkelling opportunities.

  • Beautiful villa and fabulous location

    on 05/11/2023

The staff were excellent and worked very hard. We had a wonderful time in a very beautiful villa and fabulous location. We’d highly recommend.

  • Everything was perfect!

    on 29/09/2023

We spent an amazing 2 weeks in Villa Plaka Gina, and everything was perfect! The villa is convenient, modern, and has amazing views, plus access to the sea. The concierge and cleaning help were friendly and efficient! The nearby town Plaka is lovely and has some nice tavernas. We will definitely come back!

  • The most stunning location

    on 31/07/2023

First on the list is the most stunning location, high above Plaka village and directly opposite Spinalonga Island.
It was hard to stop looking at the most incredible view, either from the pool area or from one of two sea-facing first floor bedrooms with spacious balconies.
The villa has been built and specified to a very high standard and this attention to detail includes the well equipped outdoor kitchen, with its own oven, dishwasher, work surfaces and barbecue.
The sizeable infinity pool is excellent, with extensive seating areas surrounding it. We were a party of 11 and there was more than enough outside space for everybody.
The staff were efficient, attentive and very polite. The manager, Andreas, was there to great us and show us round as well, as meeting us again on our day of departure. He arranged high quality airport transfers for some of our party, as well as good value private speedboat transfers out to Spinalonga.
We had a brief technical problem with the water pump in the villa but this was dealt with extremely quickly and efficiently by the staff, who must live very close by.

  • Wow. This villa is superb

    on 29/07/2023

Wow. This villa is superb. Well appointed, outstanding and unrivalled views across to Plaka, Elounda and Spinalonga.
The villa itself was modern, well serviced by the pool and cleaning team with excellent facilities. The pool was cleaned daily, heated and being an infinity pool, great views.
Having spent many holidays in villas in the Med over the the last ten years, this was, without doubt, the very best and most luxurious I have stayed in.
    Would thoroughly recommend.

  • Fantastic holiday!

    on 25/07/2023

We really love the Villa and Plaka. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a fantastic holiday. This was our fifth time and it has consistently delighted us. We will definitely be back next year. Thank you!

  • First class villa

    on 19/07/2023

What an amazing holiday at Villa Plaka Gina!!!!! We couldn’t have asked for a better experience through Olivers Travel both in the run up to departure and whilst there. Concierge team was super helpful and amazingly efficient at organising everything. I had a long list of requests and every detail was meticulously delivered. The villa and location were first class, our host Andreas ensured we were well looked after throughout our stay. The whole experience was a big WOW thanks to Oliver’s Travels for making my birthday holiday with friends a truly memorable experience I’ll never forget.

  • Wonderful Villa!

    on 30/06/2023

Wonderful Villa! We were 10 adults and one beautiful baby, the villa is very spacious, beautiful decor, unbelievable views, amazing staff, Andreas welcomed us and was quick to respond to anything we needed! Our stay was in May, the weather was somewhat unstable so we requested the pool to be heated which was great! One of the biggest advantages was the location! A short walk to the beach, the mini market and tavernas in the charming town of Plaka, no need to drive! All in all, an amazing vacation in an amazing Villa!

  • Exceptional!

    on 28/06/2023

I stayed at Villa Plaka Gina in June this year with 11 girlfriends for my special birthday. It was an absolutely wonderful holiday, couldn’t have been better. The villa is first class. A very spacious and well designed space. The decor, furnishings and interior are very tasteful. The layout worked perfectly despite it being at full capacity with the 12 of us. It never felt cramped..lots of space. The outdoor area is absolutely amazing with stunning views and a fabulous pool. We ate outside in the outdoor kitchen which worked very well.

The location is also top notch. You can walk in ten mins to Plaka where there are lots of lovely restaurants and small boutique shops. The villa is on a steep hill but that didn’t put us off. The locals were very friendly and welcoming. We did various trips to Spinalonga and Elounda.

Andreas was a fabulous and attentive host during our stay. He organised a speedboat to Elounda which was out of this world along with private dining, massages etc. he was exceptionally happy to help. Final shout out to the housekeeping team, they were very efficient and just LOVELY.

If you’re doubting booking this villa…don’t just do it! You won’t regret it.

  • Impeccable!

    on 13/04/2023

The villa is perfect in every way with a phenomenal view. Beautiful interior and exterior furnishings with lots of space for a big family. Its our second year in a row staying here which is very unusual for us as we always like to try somewhere new. If you are looking for a peaceful luxury family/friends holiday, walking distance to a wonderful village with lots of traditional bars and restaurants then this is the one. The manager Andreas could not have been more helpful and the daily house cleaning service was impeccable!

  • Amazing
