Overview of Chateau Ste Genevieve

What Oliver loves…

  • The chateau was actually built in the 11th century and the owners have done an incredible job in combining the truly unique atmosphere inherited from the Middle Ages with all the mod-cons you'd expect from a luxury holiday chateau (and more)!
  • This property sits in a beautiful part of France that inspires you to really get back to nature. The chateau is entirely private, secluded and tranquil. Truly the ideal place to sit back and unwind.
  • The home cinema is the best I've seen. So comfortable that it's easy to imagine losing a few hours in there on a rainy day.
  • There are two quad bikes available for your group.

What you should know…

  • There is currently no pool but there are plans to build one so watch this space. There is a natural pond from the river in the garden that is very clean (as the river runs through it), however, it's pretty cold.
  • If you have young children you will need to keep an eye on them as a natural spring flows through the grounds of the property.

With 10 double bedrooms and more than 10 bathrooms to accommodate up to 20 guests in luxurious comfort, the Chateau Ste Genevieve even has separate staff quarters. The Chateau Ste Genevieve is available year round and the location offers an unrivalled range of activities during all the seasons.

One of Europe's oldest renovated chateaux is available for your family holiday or reunion! The Chateau Ste Genevieve is located in the Savoie region of France at the base of the French Alps.

Originally built by French monks as a priory in 1032-1033, the property was transformed into a chateau by Barron Charles-Albert Favier du Noyer in 1828. The Chateau Ste Genevieve changed hands three times before being bought and completely restored by the current owners, who have brought modern charm to the chateau while maintaining historical and architectural integrity.

Cooking classes and wine tasting are available within the chateau. Contact Oliver's VIP Concierge using the blue box in the "Extras" tab for details.

Interior & Grounds

The 10 double bedrooms all have en-suite bathrooms and are truly unique. For maximum privacy there is also a separate staff apartment. The views of the Alps and Mt. Blanc are breathtaking and host a range of activities.

In addition to the bedrooms there is also a large, fully equipped kitchen for relaxed meals and a more formal dining room. Two outdoor terraces can be used for dining and relaxing. There is also a main reception room for socializing.

The library is the ideal place to relax and escape with a good book. The salon is a great place for listening to music or enjoying a glass of wine and unwinding. There is a pool table, a bar and a stereo in a games room.

The home theatre comes with over 550 films to watch and satellite television. There is also a fully equipped office with PC for internet access, phone and fax.

Outside there are 17 acres of private grounds to explore with 2 dining terraces and views of the Alps & Mont-Blanc. In addition there is plenty of parking.

Map, Location & Local Information

Both Geneva & Lyon international airports are 130km away. The nearest village is the quaint St. Jean de la Porte 2km away, which is about a 15 minute stroll.

The chateau is the ideal place to enjoy the typical French lifestyle and escape a hectic city life. With 3 local bakeries, a cheese shop and open-air markets, you won’t go hungry! The nearby villages and towns have excellent shopping and dining opportunities. Children can entertain themselves in the huge private grounds.

Albertville hosted the 1992 winter Olympics and is less than 17 miles away. Chambéry, the former capital of the independent state of Savoie, is 14 miles away. Water activities and sightseeing are available at Lakes Bourget and Annecy and are less than 28 miles from the chateau. The Savoie and Haute-Savoie are perfect for walks in the forest or lazing in the sun. There is something here for all tastes and ages.

There is an incredible range of activities on offer in the area, which is why many families enjoy their stay here. Where else could you go for a bike ride in the warm summer sun, trek glaciers, paraglide and taste local wines all in one day? Imagine the possibilities in a week or a month!

  • Thanks, it's been great!

Posted by Anonymous User on 14/06/2012

This has been a complete family holiday for us. In total nineteen members of the family spanning 4 generations spent a most enjoyable week at the Chateau. The weather was variable but it didn't matter. We spent time inside and outside the Chateau. We had 2 barbecues, we walked the grounds, we played pool and we watched a movie every night! We visited local vineyards- we even had a trip to Annecy. Mostly though, we were just lazy, exactly what a holiday should be. the Chateau is a super building, with lots of history and character everywhere you look. The restoration has been to a high standard. And the caretaker has been extremely helpful to us. Thanks, it's been great!

Posted by Anonymous User on 14/06/2012

We appreciate you sharing your magnificent French Chateau home with our clan. It means so much to us to spend this time together-two generations all under one roof. The grand rooms, gorgeous French kitchen, game room, and movie theater all have left a memory of 7 great nights together-sure to be the topic of conversation of our family for years to come! Unbelievable sunrises and sunsets enjoyed on your terraces-thank you for sharing these remarkable sights with us! We enjoyed Bernard with our wine tour of the unique Savoie region, our unbelievable Mont Blanc journey and every village tour we could find. The best of all, we would return each day and have the property manager who provided and guided all our dining experiences. memories made here are once in a lifetime-we wish our best to you and thank you.

  • If only we had another week!

Posted by Anonymous User on 14/06/2012

If only we had another week! So much to enjoy and explore. Savoie is an amazing beautiful place and the Chateau itself is captivating. I couldn't imagine a better setting to build fun & touching memories with our family that will continue to grow in epic embellished proportions through the years. Thank you for having us! We look forward to being back one day. I am so grateful that our uncle invited us to this wonderful place. Thanks for everything.

  • Many great memories formed that we will never forget

Posted by Anonymous User on 14/06/2012

What a great trip! Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. My family truly enjoyed our stay, from our dungeon disco party, fantastic meals, to the invasion of the game room. Many great memories formed that we will never forget. On the next note, the property manager was phenomenal. A wonderful hostess that was patient with my insane family. Thank you again and we hope to get back again.

  • This Chateau is a once in a lifetime experience!

Posted by Anonymous User on 14/06/2012

This Chateau is a once in a lifetime experience. As the final day approaches, we wish we had more time in the Chateau and the region. We loved exploring the site and the surrounding areas, seeing the people's way of life and learning about their history and culture. Our lives have been enriched by this experience and the memories of this family event will be with us always thanks to the patriarch of this family. The property manager was attentive and helpful and had many ideas to share with us.

  • Absolutely magical experience...

Posted by Anonymous User on 14/06/2012

How can simple words summarize our absolutely magical experience here in your Savoie utopia? From the picture perfect views, to the haunting dungeon, to the Juliet-like windows & spirited horses, to the soothing sounds of the ancient water "mill" to the sheer comfort & welcoming embrace we immediately felt upon entering the gates of your medieval paradise. Ahhh...!!! Our clan, as my fathers guests, have created lasting memories & have had experiences of a lifetime. Thank you for opening your magnificent home to us & sharing your generosity of spirit and vision in creating this paradise.

P.S. and your property manager..what a gem! For their infinite patience, sense of humor, culinary prowess & calming patience, and has become a part of our clan & largely responsible for the magic we all felt.

  • The Chateau was the perfect setting for 4 days of relaxing, exploring and eating and drinking

Posted by Anonymous User on 14/06/2012

Thirteen of us came to this wonderful Chateau on a sentimental journey to visit our French relatives, many of whom we had never met! The Chateau was the perfect setting for 4 days of relaxing, exploring and eating and drinking wonderful local produce! The children have taken hide and seek to a new level (hiding & jumping out from alcoves & nooks & crannies was also a great favorite of the grown-ups..) Moms & Dads preferred sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine taking in the breathtaking scenery. We will miss the midnight film show in the most comfortable cinema in France. Thanks so much for giving us the opportunity to spend a few days in a piece of living French history.
