Overview of Chateau Beaurive

What Oliver loves…

  • The chateau is of epic proportions and the estate is enormous! You could walk for hours and still be within the grounds.
  • The bedrooms have all been beautifully done with furniture befitting of the style and period - no IKEA wardrobes here!
  • Just 7km from the chateau is the town of Montbrison which is well worth a visit - a very attractive town with the river running through it, all the local amenities you need and some fantastic restaurants.
  • The kids certainly won't run out of options. Within the estate you have: pool, tennis, Jacuzzi, steam room, woods to explore, the lake, trampoline, swings and boules to name a few!

What you should know…

  • There is no wifi at the chateau. However, the 3G network is available with a good signal. Prices for roaming within Europe have dropped significantly so a day's worth of 3G access is now only about £2.
  • During the summer the owner often stays at the chateau but in a completely self contained unit to the building. No kitchen/living facilities etc are shared.

The Chateau Beaurive is situated in 100 acres of private estate surrounded by woodland and its own private lake. On site activities include the swimming pool (with solar heating), tennis court with ball machine, Jacuzzi and steam room as well as a clay pigeon machine.

The Chateau is very secluded and reached through its 1km long tree-lined driveway. The land is available for walks and is great for young children. For those who do not wish to walk there is a selection of 9 bikes of varying sizes for you to use.

The scenery is breathtaking, and the rear balcony, ideal for evening barbecues, overlooks the Massif Central which rises to 7000ft. Skiing is even available in the winter.

There are multiple activities available locally including canoeing, fishing (in the chateau lake), go-karting, flying, a wine museum and a cheese making facility. For the less energetic the region hosts several 2 and 3 star Michelin restaurants and many wine caves including many Cote du Rhone variants.

Interior & Grounds

The interior has been furnished and decorated in the last 5 years to a very high standard. Many of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and sinks are fitted in most rooms. The house was built around 1752 and passed through the hands of a railway magnate. The feature middle room has a mosaic floor with a wheel as a motif, that leads out to the balcony.

The chateau can be divided into various parts.
- The South Wing has 2 double rooms, 2 twin rooms and a single. There are 2 en-suite bathrooms.
- The North Wing has a double and a twin with an en-suite.
- Both South and North wings each have their own kitchens and sitting rooms with English speaking TV channels.
- Please note that although the chateau can be divided in to separate parts, it is never rented to more than one group. You will be the only guests on site.

In the grounds there is a heated pool (15x5m), a tennis court, a boules court and a wet room with shower, jacuzzi and steam room. There are 9 bikes and a honda pilot style buggy (subject to restrictions). The 25 hectares of woodland belong to the chateau and many more are available for walks or cycling. There is also a lake with fish in it and many other forms of wildlife to see during your stay.

Map, Location & Local Information

The River Loire is 5km away and has all the activities you might expect. For the fly fishermen there are plenty of streams to try. For the rambler or cyclist there is the Route de Basalte (route of the volcanoes). You could also take the cure and drink the Badoit water at its source. For those looking for something a little stronger there are plenty of boutique wineries to visit. There are also 2 golf courses within 12km.

There are many other local attractions including a ski resort where you can mountain bike down the runs in the summer. In this resort there is one of the largest Go Ape forest parks in Europe and you can swing from the trees or merely enjoy the scenery.

Getting to the property is easy via plane or Eurostar to Lyon. From there it is best to hire a car to get from the airport/station to the Chateau (1 hours drive). Driving from the UK to the Chateau is 500 miles from Calais.

Catering & Services

All linen and towels are provided. The owners employ a cleaner who can be hired at extra cost if required. Babysitting can also be easily arranged as the owners live in a self-contained part of the chateau.

Should you require catering for any special occasions the owners can supply first class chefs. For breakfast they can provide you with fresh free range eggs from the chateau brood.

Please contact Oliver's VIP Concierge via the blue box above to arrange these services.
