Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach Walk to Village

Listen to the sound of the waves from the terrace and balcony at La Tour, a very special beachfront holiday house in Normandy. This unique brick tower right on the beach enjoys a dramatic view over the sea. It’s perfect for a couple or small family wanting a unique and memorable holiday experience.

Built in 1865 by a painter, the tower has been completely renovated to retain its charm, maximise space and provide modern comforts. The two bedrooms, on the first and third floors, include a double bedroom with a terrace and another with three single beds (one bunk style). Shower after the beach in a convenient ground floor shower room, or the second shower room upstairs. The kitchen has up to date appliances like a glass electric hob, and the cosy sitting room opens up to the balcony.

La Tour is perfectly located just a short stroll from a charming village on the Côte Fleurie, between the well known resort of Deauville and the historic port of Honfleur. The beautiful seaside town of Deauville has plenty to entertain everyone, with a casino, golf, tennis and riding, as well as both fine dining and small charming bistros. Food lovers will appreciate the weekly markets in Honfleur and Trouville and don't miss out on tasting the local Calvados in one of the many nearby cellars.

This is also a great base for exploring the D-Day Landing beaches such as Arromanches and Omaha, both of which could be combined with a trip to the historical town of Bayeux with its elegant 17th-century buildings and of course the famous Bayeux Tapestry. During your day out try the Coquilles Saint Jacques in the charming Port en Bessin.

Located on the Côte Fleurie, just a short walk from the heart of a charming village. There is a Restaurant-Bar Brasserie and beach just a very short walk away or you can head further up the hill to the village for other facilities such as more restaurants, cafes, lovely shops and a grocery store. There is also a watersports centre just a few steps from La Tour, open Wednesday to Sundays in the summer, plus tennis courts in the village.

This is a historic village known by painters, musicians and has featured in many films...you can see the attraction! It has recently been named a ‘village of character’ thanks to its commitment to conservation with its narrow streets and original characteristics. Wander around the foot paths in the nearby Parc des Graves with a play area and picnic tables for the kids and find the ‘Roches Noires’; the clay and limestone cliffs, a little further on.

There are some other beautiful seaside villages nearby. Deauville (8km), from the 'la belle époque' era, is great for smart shops, cafes and people watching. This cosmopolitan resort has a large and beautiful beach, a marina, and a casino.  It’s where Parisians tend to come for their seaside retreat. Here you will find wonderful sandy beaches, tennis, golf and horse-riding.

Honfleur (10km) is the oldest medieval fishing and sailing port in France and has been painted by some of the most popular artists of the 20th century including Monet and Manet.

Highlights of the area also include one of France's oldest University cities, Caen (60km) and the stunning granite island of Mont St Michel (approx. 200km), one of France’s most visited attractions. The Château de Falaise (70km) is also worthy of a visit to see the castle where William the Conqueror was born.

Normandy is rightly famous for its food - especially the cheeses such as Livarot Camembert, and Pont l'Eveque - and Calvados, the apple brandy. The French love of good food means that all ingredients also have to be of the highest quality.  Seafood is fantastic and local producers are famous in the area for quality, taste, and price. There are excellent local food markets in Honfleur on Saturdays and Trouville on Sundays.

This is also a great base for exploring the D-Day Landing beaches. Arromanches (80km) and Omaha (115km) are examples of two beaches of historical importance as well as the batteries and cliffs of Longues-sur-Mer (102km). Combine with a trip to Bayeux (95km), having a lunch of Coquilles Saint Jacques in the charming Port en Bessin before heading to the historic town. Bayeux is a beautiful town, well known for  the UNESCO classified Bayeux Tapestry, with many renowned restaurants, elegant 17th century buildings and interesting museums about this fascinating part of Normandy.

Reviews

  • Spectacular views

    on 23/09/2022

A dramatic position in a charming seaside town, La Tour had everything we needed for a simple break by the sea. It also offer spectacular views of the Seine Estuary and a great sound scape. Visitors need to be prepared for a winding staircase between floors which adds to the drama of the building. Perfect for artists and sea watchers.

  • Exactly what we were promised

    on 13/09/2021

Beautiful villa, matching exactly what we were promised.

  • What an amazing place!

    on 29/12/2018

  • Spectacular view!

    on 05/10/2018

We had wonderful 3 days at La Tour. We loved the view!

  • Wonderful stay

    on 23/08/2018

We’ve had a wonderful week at La Tour! The views and the sounds of the waves are superb. Our twin boys loved their room. The space inside seems bigger than on the photos. The shower on the ground floor is brilliant to clean sandy feet.

  • Fabulous place to stay

    on 18/08/2018

The sunsets are incredible, fabulous views, interesting little town and its easy to reach other places. The girls loved body boarding in the shallow but wavy sea right outside the tower. We loved watching all the locals come with their buckets and wellies to gather mussels at low tide.
We all have excellent let mussels from climbing stairs all week! Thank you for an amazing stay!

  • We Loved It

    on 14/09/2017

La Tour was lovely. The owners had thought of everything down to wellies for bad weather and local information.

  • Absolutely love this place!

    on 08/09/2017

You have thought of everything. We were very grateful for the wellies! We have had a fabulous time and all of us want to come back. It didn’t matter that the weather wasn’t great. La Tour was!

  • Thank you for such an amazing accommodation!

    on 25/08/2017

Our boys (3 and 5) have truly enjoyed it. A hand or rope rail wouldn’t go a miss but our little ones did just fine on the stairs. The locals are fantastic and everyone always says « bonjour ».
We came here to find out more about our grand father who fought in WWII at Sword Beach. The information we found was far more than we even expected. We have made memories here that will last a lifetime by ourselves, children, and hopefully grandchildren one day.
We will be recommending this place to everyone.
    Thank you! Merci!

  • Wonderful Stay!

    on 05/08/2017

Thank you for a fantastic stay in « La Tour »! The entire tower was well stocked and we thoroughly enjoy the view!

PS: Shame about the weather but as we’re British, we’re used to it !

  • It was a very special holiday!

    on 29/07/2017

Thank you so much for a great stay.
We loved the tower and especially the view.

  • Second visit, Merci beaucoup!

    on 22/07/2017

We love it here. Thank you!

  • Magnificent property with amazing service!

    on 29/10/2015

Magnificent holiday venue accompanied by very good service that I highly recommend. It has all the comforts whilst only being a few metres from the sea!

  • Wonderfully unique and tranquil experience

    on 15/07/2015

A totally unique experience staying in a tower with a wonderful panorama view of the sea. You can spend hours sitting on the balcony, watching the tide go in and out and the ships coming into Le Havre in the distance. At night when the the tide is in, the sound of the sea is fantastic and almost feels like you are sleeping on the beach.
The tower itself is nicely decorated, clean and kitted out with everything you might need on a holiday. The furniture and fittings are intelligently laid out to maximise the space at all levels so it doesn't feel so cramped.
Viverville itself was a charming, quiet seaside town with a few bistros and shops, perfect for escaping the usual hoards of tourists elsewhere on the Normandy coast. Definitely worthy of the 5 star rating, although there is a lack of free parking on site (although plenty on the side streets behind the tower) and some evenings when the tide is out you get the occasional teenagers listening to music on the sea front until late at night.
