What you should know…

  • There is access for those with limited mobility via a lift to one of the first floor bedrooms however the access from the kitchen to the dining room is too narrow for a standard wheelchair - see the Features for further information
  • Car hire is pretty much essential
  • Please note that guests will be required to sign a copy of the owner's rental terms upon confirmation of their booking

This home is a part of our Great Value and Heritage Collection!

This is a historic home, and as such:

  • It has probably been standing for over 100 years, which means it's full of historic value and charm but it may also have one or two quirks!
  • Some of the decor and furnishings may not be brand new, but that should not detract from your holiday experience in this unique setting that allows you to take a step back in time!

Property Features

Private Pool Child-Safe Pool Heated Pool Wi-Fi/Internet BBQ Bicycles Provided Gym/Fitness Room Games Room Indoor Games Outdoor Games Table Tennis Table Football Pool/Snooker DVD Working Fireplace/Woodburner Heating

The château has 9 bedrooms, 11 bath/shower rooms and sleeps a total of 15 guests (excluding infants in cots) in spacious comfort. A large heated swimming pool (5m x 12m), which is entirely enclosed by a hedge and gates, is for the exclusive use of the guests. There is a fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, dining room and 2 reception rooms, one of which is a games room. In addition there is a large entrance hall, a downstairs shower room and WC, separate downstairs WC, a lift which takes you to a first floor bedroom, a mirrored dance studio and two spacious porches for storing swimming things, shoes and bike helmets.

The large outdoor pool is heated, and there are plenty of lounge chairs for guests to relax on. The pool is surrounded by a hedge for privacy and also for safety reason, and there is access through two gates. The pool has an electric cover which is key operated. There is a built in barbecue which guests may use. Briquettes are available from the local supermarkets. Whilst linen and towels for the chateau are included in the rental cost, guests are required to provide their own swimming towels.

There are 6 double bedrooms (1 super king, 1 king and 4 double beds), 2 twin bedrooms and 1 family room (a queen bed plus 2 singles), which provides flexible accommodation for family groups. There are 7 bedrooms on the first floor and 2 on the second floor - one of which is a twin and is the only one without an ensuite bathroom; there is one next door. It is well suited to being used as a children's room as there is a large underwater mural.

The kitchen is a large and light room that seats 8-10 at the table, though there is additional seating by way of window seats and the breakfast bar. The kitchen has an electric range oven with gas hob, and separate ‘croissant’ oven and griddle plate. There is a full size fridge and freezer, a microwave, 2 sinks, dishwasher, a mixer/blender and a wide variety of saucepans, frying pans and cooking utensils. There is a separate pantry for storing food. Adjoining the kitchen, in a turret, is a well equipped laundry room that also houses a full size wine fridge. There is a side porch from the kitchen that can be used for storing shoes, bike helmets and swimming things.

The dining room leads off the kitchen and seats 14 at a bespoke table (16 could be seated if necessary). The dining room has an impressive glass chandelier which adds a touch of luxury.

The first reception room has 3 comfortable three-seater sofas, 2 occasional chairs, and a satellite television for watching DVD's. There is a good selection of adults and young children’s DVDs for guests to use. There is also an I-pod docking station and speakers, which may be moved to the kitchen, or any other room, if guests prefer.

The second reception room is used as a games room and has a table tennis/pool table as well as a wide selection of children’s toys and games, some puzzles and board games for adults. Access to the lift is from the games room.

The dance studio is on the second floor and has a wall of mirrors. It has an ensuite shower room.

The parkland is available for guests exclusive use and provides wonderful opportunities to observe birds and wildlife in their natural habitat. There is plenty of room to mess around on bikes.

Please note there is access for those with limited mobility by way of a lift, installed in one of the turrets. The lift goes to a first floor bedroom with a king bed and en-suite wet room with shower, WC and basin.  Please note however that accessibility on the ground floor is limited if you have a wheelchair – the door between the kitchen and dining room is 60cm, therefore not wide enough for a standard width wheelchair so it would be necessary to collapse the wheelchair to get it through and then walk through. All other routes into the Chateau are via steps.

The nearest village with shops is Villedieu la Blouère, which has a post office, a bakery, a small supermarket and is only a 2 minute drive away (and an easy bike ride). St Philbert en Mauges is a similar distance but has no shops. St Macaire en Mauges is about 10 minutes away by car and has a bakery, a patisserie and a much larger supermarket. Cholet is 20 minutes away and has all the usual amenities you would expect to find in a large town, including a hypermarket and a fantastic leisure centre with several pools and an ice rink.

Aside from enjoying life at the Chateau Cendrillon and its surroundings, guests have plenty of options when it comes to excursions. The following are just a few suggestions:

Enjoyable day trips include the famous cities of Nantes, Angers, Tours and Saumur, where you can visit their châteaux, abbeys and museums, among other attractions.

The Saumur region is famous for its troglodyte caves and many have been turned into fascinating tourist attractions. These are a fantastic option if the weather is wet or too hot, as the caves are dry and maintain a constant temperature year round. Among these, the Zoo de Doué, home to 500 animals, is located in an old quarry and has made excellent use of the caves in forming the zoo. The Museé du Champignon (mushroom museum) at St-Hilaire-St-Florent has made innovative use of the caves through mushroom production. Nearby, the Parc Miniature Pierre et Lumière is an unique attraction. Many of the most well-known sites of the Loire valley have been carved out of tufa stone by a Breton sculptor. Châteaux, towns, villages and churches have been sculpted in the finest detail, with the most dramatic being a bas-relief of the nearby town of Saumur, 12 metres long by 2 metres high.

Saumur is also home to Le Cadre Noir, one of the most prestigious horsemanship schools in the world, whose equestrian display team holds regular performances.

It goes without saying that there are many vineyards in the Loire region which you can visit for wine tastings, and they range from large commercial wineries to small farms.

One of France's major tourist attractions, Le Puy du Fou, is less than an hour away. Its medieval themed ‘park’ includes an impressively large Roman amphitheatre with chariots, fighting gladiators, jousting knights on horseback, falconry and much more. In the summer they have evening sound and light shows.

While the Loire is famous for its river, wines and 1001 châteaux, for those who wish to dip a toe in the Atlantic, it is about an hour and a half to Pornic, the nearest seaside resort, a trip to which makes a fun day out and provides an opportunity to sample wonderful fresh French seafood – speciality moules et frites.

Cyclists can take advantage of the ‘Loire á vélo’ – currently 400km of maintained trails and cycle routes along the Loire River. The plan is to extend the route to cover 800 km. There are many bike rental places along the route for those who haven’t brought their own bicycles with them. The trails are easy to follow, and it is a carefree way to pass the day through the unspoiled rural towns and villages of the Loire Valley.

Clisson is a medieval town which has a popular food market on Fridays and is a picturesque place to wander around. It has a ruined château open to the public.

Shoppers will be thrilled to discover La Séguiniere, an enormous factory outlet village, home to 80 major brands, from fashion and sports to kitchenware, as well as a chocolate shop which offers free samples.

The Japanese Gardens (Parc Oriental) at Maulévrier are a wonderful place to visit, especially for young families, as children under 12 go free.  Originally built in 1899 but then left to decay, a restoration programme started in the 1980's has resulted in stunning garden filled with Japanese architecture, bridges, water features and traditional Japanese trees. The gardens are the largest of their kind in Europe.

The Glissé leisure centre in Cholet offers spectacular sports facilities, including an ice rink and an 8 pool indoor/outdoor swimming complex, with slides, diving pools, fun pools and a beach.

  • Amazing time!

    on 29/06/2019

Lovely place to stay for family, very quiet beautiful country side and birds/butterflies in the woods and fields. Some parts of the chateau however just need a bit of a paint in some areas as looking quite tired. Otherwise would recommend.

  • Absolutely incredible holiday

    on 18/08/2018

The Chateau was excellent - totally exceptional.

  • A* Olivers Travels!

    on 04/01/2018

The holiday was great and everything ran smoothly. The service offered by Oliver’s Travels is extremely good and attentive

  • A brilliant week in a fabulous location!

    on 30/06/2016

What can I say ..14 friends and family gathered at the Chateau for a week in June, the weather was not brilliant but that did not dampen our fun.
The Chateau itself is beautiful - the rooms are as described, the disabled facilities for my mother in a wheelchair are discrete (a lift directly into a special modified suite, and a large disabled toilet downstairs) and were so much better than we have ever found before.
The kitchen was a great space for chat and creativity, big enough for all to get involved, the good instructions on how to work the huge oven came in very handy. The dining room is palatial and was the scene of many delicious meals with lots of that french red. The grounds were fun to explore with a particular challenging tree swing! We used the bikes, minimally, but we tried, I'm afraid I can't review the gym, only went up to it when we arrived, but it was very well equipped! The table tennis table provided many hours of fun, old skills refound. We did manage to sit by the pool one day which was very clean, with lots of sun beds. Also ate outside one night and used the big built in BBQ, a lovely night as we sat around the fire.
As recommended by a previous reviewer, we had fresh bread and croissants from the local baker every morning and did all our shopping (including wine) at the local supermarket. They made the mad Brits/Australians feel so very welcome and even stayed open a little longer as we arrived one day as they were about to close - a tip to remember the french (quite rightly) shut up shop quite a lot!
I would highly recommend this place and if would have no hesitation in returning.Just a great place ...

  • Magnificent and Majestic

    on 30/10/2013

My company, Wildstar Wine Tours, leads wine tours in France and my group of 12 guests had the pleasure of staying at Chateau Cendrillon last week for our tour in the Loire Valley. The chateau was magnificent and majestic and all of my guests were thoroughly impressed by both the opulence of the Chateau and its comfort. The owners are extremely accommodating and attentive to their guests' needs and I look forward to my many stays at the Chateau in the years to come.

  • Certainly has the WOW factor....

    on 20/09/2012

WOW! what a place you have!
We had a superb time at the Chateau - which certainly has the WOW factor. You had thought of everything! And thank you very much indeed for the complimentary champagne - which was very well received on the first night!
The chateau was particularly well suited for our party because it was very much geared up for children; the games room, the swimming pool, the woods, all the equipment, etc. The children didn't even ask to play on the computer games (in the games room).
We ordered three nights worth of food from the chef, but probably could have ordered one or two nights more as we struggled to find local restaurants. We all went to La Pizzaiola one night - the food and service was excellent despite being such a large group! Some also had an evening meal at Hotel de France in Beaupreau which they said was lovely but very limited choice for children. We did struggle to find many other places to eat out so the catering option was a god send. Many were closed on the night we decided to try them out, perhaps it is still low season?
It was all very hectic on Saturday morning, with Isabelle and the cleaners arriving on time but were struggling to get out (even though everyone said they had packed the night before!) so unfortunately we did not have time to write any suggestions in the comments book. We would definitely recommend these two places for families: Puy du Fou and Terra Botanica.
Thanks again for all your help prior to our visit. It was very good of you to let me contact you directly. Oh, and the chef's food was amazing, all of it, would definitely recommend.

  • Excellent holiday and I will definitely be organising another one at Chateau Cendrillon

    on 20/09/2012

We drove along the wooded driveway and from across a sea of ox-eye daisies first saw the chateau. The pale towers under silky slate cones, at each end of the house, enhanced the fairytale picture-book quality of the scene. From the moment we saw it to the final farewell, this house gave everything promised in the literature, and more. The first-floor bedrooms are all beautifully decorated and appointed. Views over wild flower meadow and agricultural fields are stunning and birdsong rattled the windows each morning. Even after dark, cicadas and occasional nightingales provided a beautiful sound-scape. Bedrooms on the second floor (only two) do not have views because the windows are too high, but that doesn't stop the light, bird-song and fresh air. My husband and I stayed in the twin room with the undersea mural, and although this is the only room without an en suite, and one of only two without a view, we were absolutely fine. We used the bathroom off the fully-equipped gym, and were delighted to find a very clever massage shower and sauna cabinet there, although we only used it as a shower during our stay.
Downstairs, a splendid kitchen, which was big enough for all 20 of us to enjoy more-or-less at once, was sensibly stocked with a selection of essentials including two bottles of Champagne, how kind! Good instructions were given for all appliances. The panelled dining room took my breath away. A glittering chandelier lit a wonderful portrait of a rosy-cheeked beauty and a terrific table at which we sat 20 people with ease (and by borrowing a few chairs from the playroom). The central hallway, sitting room and games room were excellently proportioned and decorated. I adored the silk wall covering and matching curtains. From the collection provided I chose two films, Man on Wire and Last king of Scotland, to watch on the large TV while curled up on an ample sofa surrounded by opulent comfort. Children would be delighted to find the board games, dressing-up clothes, PS2 and table games in the games room. As all rooms are separated from the next by two doors, children can probably be quite noisy before they disturb the quiet readers in the sitting-room next door. I am an out-door girl and this beautiful château satisfied my tastes perfectly. The extensive grounds are well kept close to the house, but allowed to grow free further away. As a result the variety of species of flora and fauna is spectacular. An ancient Cedar tree in the wild-flower meadow casts a stately shade for water-colour artist or solitary bookworm. A ruin close to the house sprouts vegetation like a strawberry planter and a trampoline hides amongst the grasses behind the pool hedge. The pool is an extra treat and we used it well. Woodland alive with birds separates the château from the road, and provide an excellent shady walk on a sunny day. I found a great 45 minute amble which took me all around the roads surrounding the Château. This became a regular walk for me. I particularly liked the fact that this route gave me many and ever-changing views of the house.
Our day trips were almost unnecessary, but we did venture away from paradise occasionally. The highlight of my week was a the underground quarry of Les Perrieres at Doue-la-Fontaine. As we explored a small part of the bind-blowingly extensive network of cathedral-like caves which have been hewn by men from as early as Roman times, I found myself gasping open-mouthed at the hugeness of it all. We also visited the troglodyte farms at Rochemenier which were exceptionally well organised as a social history exhibit. On another day we visited a wine collective at Saumur where they sold an unusual and delicious fizzy red wine - I bought a case to bring home. Shopping in Nantes is good fun and very good value. I bought some wonderful shoes for myself an my husband at a Moroccan leather-goods shop and we also had a delicious Franco/Cambodian lunch there. We had the benefit of a weak Euro (€1 = 80p) but even taking that into account prices were very good. I was also impressed with the amount of cheap and free parking. The local Intermarche at Villedieu has a good range of products (meat, cheese, wine, vegetables) fair prices and helpful service. Some of our party used the bicycles supplied by the château to cycle the 2km to the supermarket for the morning bread-run. The bicycles deserve a special mention, as although I did not use them some of our party did, and they were very happy with the quality of the bikes. The surrounding countryside is perfect for cycling because it is relatively flat. All in all, this was an excellent holiday and I will definitely be organising another one if you will have us. I do not hesitate to recommend the Château Cendrillon to anyone wishing to plan the perfect big family get-together or, like us, simply wanting to spend some time with good friends.
